After about a dozen 1-hour round trips to Home Depot, a neighbor recommended Gilbert & Cole for painting supplies and all the little items that we needed to complete the projects. I tried the local Ace Hardware in town to save the drive to Home Depot, but everything was so overpriced I couldn't bear. I gave Gilbert & Cole a try. On my first trip, I saved $2 on the paint brushes I previously bought at Ace and they were the same price as Home Depot. The store is not as large as HD or Lowe's, but they have all the basics if you realize you need something in the middle of a project. The great service and convenience were additional positives that made the overall experience exactly what you look for at your local hardware store. It just feels better to support a local "small" business. Two thumbs up!

First I am not a novice carpenter, I needed more than 40 pieces of PT lumber and other materials. When I checked the stock, the pieces in the bens were what everyone else didn't want, in rough shape, and in low numbers. I was told they would hand select from a new pallet and that their workers are "very good" at avoiding the bad pieces. I was assured that workers would select pieces that were straight, with at least one clean edge and no large cracks. What did I get, about a third of the pieces were the rejects, not what was promised. I would have done better at Home Depot!

Day of order delivery, GerrityStone calls us to tell us that they broke our quartz countertop at their warehouse. We ask them how much longer it would take to get an unbroken countertop. General Manager Mark Capuano tells us we need to receive the two broken pieces with a seam because "contractually he can put a seam anywhere he wants." Mr. Capuano offers us a "$250 gift certificate for a nice dinner" on our $17K order. We say no. He asks us what we want? We ask for our original unbroken countertop order to be fulfilled. He tells us that'll cost an additional $3,000. He asks if we would receive the broken countertop with an additional seam. We don't want to take the broken countertop, but we'll take it if we're given $2K in compensation. He tells us this discussion is a waste of a time and hangs up on us. GerrityStone comes back and offers us $500 to receive the broken countertop. We refuse and are still waiting to hear from them. Addendum * In GerrityStone's document, it specifically states "Seam placement should be discussed during the in-home template appointment...Final seam placement is at the discretion of the professional, and seam location may be able to be moved or eliminated in particular circumstances...Additional seams may be required based on the ability to maneuver a piece into position at the installation site." We reviewed and approved the single seam placement for our L-shaped kitchen countertop. GerrityStone is not moving a seam, they're introducing another seam due to damage to the quartz countertop under their supervision at their warehouse. Doesn't GerrityStone have insurance for damage like this? GerrityStone's website says "we will only be satisfied when you are"....we are definitely not satisfied.

The gentleman we spoke with was pleasant and told us we would receive a quote within 3-4 days after providing measurements and pictures (which we did). A week after sending our measurements and receiving no communication, I sent a polite follow-up email. He apologized, explained that he had just finished a few kitchens, and assured me he was starting our quote right then and would get back to me ASAP. Five days later, when we still hadn't heard anything, I followed up again. His response was, "I'm off today, I'll get back to you tomorrow." It's been 6 days since that email, and we still haven't heard anything. I understand that businesses get busy, but if you give a customer a 3-4 day timeline for a quote, follow through on it -- or at least communicate if there's a delay. What's most disappointing is being repeatedly told to expect a response and then being left waiting. Our time is valuable, too. Unfortunately, this experience has left us with the impression that individual homeowners looking for a kitchen cabinet quote are not a priority at this store. Good customer service is about more than being pleasant in person; it requires reliability, communication, and follow-through. Based on our experience, I would not recommend making the trip or investing your time here if you're looking for a responsive and dependable cabinet supplier.
