We made our way over to the candle side called Whitebarn which is connected but gives the vibe of two different stores. As soon as we entered THE SECURITY GUARD asked if we needed any help. We politely told him no. He then asked if we were looking for a new scent or something else. My partner politely told him we were just looking and if we find something we liked we'd buy it. He then proceeded to BOMBARD us with candles "smell this" "smell that"....."do you like floral? Musky".... The guy just would not STOP. He literally followed us all over the candle section. I kept walking away from him but he was just way too persistent. Mind you, he's the SECURITY GUARD posted up in the candle side of the store. I got so annoyed I told my partner I wanted to leave. When other patrons came into the candle section he barely paid them ANY attention at all. I've never been in a store where a SECURITY GUARD acted as a sales associate. Maybe he thought we were going to steal the very large 3 wick candles in our leggings or something. Very unpleasant experience.

The shop is small, but it is decorated so cutely! Seriously stylish aesthetics. I especially love their flower wall, which they said they made themselves. There is a good selection of candles, many of which have sassy names like Cereal-ously Delicious and That's What She Said. I went with one called Momma's Kitchen, which smelled like warm cinnamon cookies. Candles were a bit on the pricey side compared to some other local makers, however I don't mind spending to support local for special occasions that require gifts every now and then. The staff was also very kind. Admittedly, a bit out of my range to buy regularly but a fine occasional splurge.

If you're looking for something other than the overly chemically scented, and often nauseating, fragrance from the shopping mall brands then this is the place for you. With tongue in cheek names like "Big D Energy" and "Material Girl" you're sure to find a scent that speaks to your personality. I purchased two large candles and some wax melts. The candles burn clean and even. And the scents are just divine! There's even a service to refill your glass once you're done with them! How cool is that?

I've seen DIY candle bars in other cities and was SO EXCITED to find out one had opened here!…read more This shop is located in the McCarthy Mercantile, underneath Wildflowers Armory. The shop itself is really cozy, with brick walls and shelves of candles and containers. Though small, it's tastefully decorated, and feels really chic. About 4 people can fit at the candle bar, though I'm told they might be able to accommodate more for special events/appointments. The process is super simple. First, pick out up to three scents. The owner helped me here by making suggestions based on the kind of scents I told her I liked. This was super helpful, because she suggested some I wouldn't have thought to try or pair. It was a little overwhelming because there were so many options, but I went with a combo of her recommendations and my kneejerk instincts. Eventually choose cabernet, cotton & linen, and English garden. Step two is to pick out the container. When I went, there were only two kinds of vessels, a dark or a light - though the owner mentioned possibly adding more options. Step three, the owner pours hot wax into the container, then fragrance, then sets a timer for a few minutes, and you stir until it stops. From there, your candle is finished, and just needs to set. This takes around 90 minutes, and you can either come back and get it the same day, or pick it up another day. Then, the owner wraps it up in a bag with super cute matches and a sticker, and it's super nice. This would make a really nice present, date night, girls night, etc. I had a lot of fun and I've been destressing with my candle all week. This was super fun and I definitely recommend checking it out if you want something different to do!

I am currently sitting awash in ancient incense and leather and I've never wanted my place to smell like anything more. There are some more standard candle vessels and some unique options, depending on when you stop in. I have two of the more standard vessels and think they're wonderful but someone I came in with took home a delightful soup bowl with a wooden wick that smells exactly as they wanted it to smell. If you stop in upstairs, you can also grab some reed diffusers and scents if you're not a candle person or just can't trust your cat with an open flame (I get it, mine can be a menace, too). I'm so picky about scent that I can't compare the pricing here to other places, as I don't usually find candles I'm willing to smell in my home long-term so to me, these are worth every penny.
