Chiraishi Special Dinner Box

Still delicious after Mr Suzuki left. Service is as friendly as ever. I'm glad it's still here

Sushi was good and the menu had a lot of good options I wanted to try. But it's not amazing enough to want to come back to anytime soon as I didn't find any of the sushi dishes particularly unique. The staff is super attentive and sweet. Prices are kind of high.

Went twice recently, once in person for dinner, once ordered take out during lunch. In person dinner went great, food was delicious. Ordered the chirashi and a Uni don. But the lunch was very disappointing. In my chirashi lunch box, I had not one but two fish scale, plus a white curly hair (or fiber). Somehow I feel like their takeouts are not prepared by the same chef, or I can wrong. I didn't take a photo of the lunch because I was with a friend and didn't want to ruin their lunch too. Now debating if I should go back to support them. On one hand it is very delicious and fresh fish, if you choose to sit down. But on the other hand, the quality of the take out is so poor that I'm really hesitant to go back now.

Suzuki decided to retire and welcome the new Chef, Mr. Yanagi! So glad we can continue eating here because what would we do without Japanese food? Yum yum! The Chef has been handling fish for many years, so he's just as talented as Suzuki-San, but younger. Everything is so fresh, and the fish is happy to be here. Keep the consistency and keep the customers happy! We love it! It's the same place as Suzuki, so it can accommodate about 20-30 people, including the sushi bar. They also offer seasonal specials à la carte! It's awesome! Must-have! Highly recommended!

Sushi Dinner

Excellent-quality sushi in a cozy neighborhood setting! Yanagi is continuing the legacy of Suzuki Shokudo, retaining the same vibes and even waitstaff. Once you have the sushi here, it's hard to go back to the lesser quality spots. The fish is delicious. This is a place where you will often hear Japanese being spoken not only by the staff but the customers as well, a sure sign that you are getting authenticity! So happy this spot is open again.

Best Ramen in Queens! Staff is friendly. Service is excellent. Prices are reasonable. Can't recommend this place enough.

His energy was absolutely infectious, he's extremely knowledgeable about the menu and saki pairings, and you'll leave feeling like you've made a new friend. I've been a fan of Takumen for 5 years and it keeps getting better and better! Highly recommend the ban ban chicken and make your own sushi, as well as the poke! Absolutely delicious!

This Japanese spot is right next to the 7 train, at the first stop in Queens. The interior is cozy,…read morewith lots of seating, and service is good (although they REALLY do try to upsell you on things, even after you said no multiple times--ie. additional toppings, drinks, desserts, etc.). They also have an ice cream shop here (Taku Parlour) that is available (but unfortunately, sold out when we went). We got their soy garlic wings and their ramen. Their wings were good but a lot of the pieces were really small. And, although the pork chashu in the ramen (I got their wantan men) was super soft and tender, I felt that the ramen was way too salty for me. Moreover, it doesn't come with an egg and if you do decide to get an egg add-on for $3, it comes in an egg cup and hard-boiled (as opposed to in the ramen and jammy/soft-boiled). Overall, I thought it was an alright spot, a bit pricer, and I'm not sure I would come back for their food.

OK. This won't take long. Fabulous…read more Fabulous meal and fabulous service tonight (Sunday). Three of us came at 6:30 pm and were promptly welcomed. I ordered the Dinner sushi combination D - tuna, salmon and white tuna. It came with a not-so-small small garden salad in a decent dressing. One of my table mates got the Bento box with teriyaki salmon and the other got two rolls (Spicy Girl and Cucumber, Avocado, Jalapeño and Scallion). We also ordered a shrimp shumai appetizer (six small, tasty shumai in the serving). Everything was delicious. And the service was outstanding. To be honest, initially we thought we were being rushed because the server came by repeatedly to remove empty plates and the wrappers from our chopsticks - but we quickly realized that this was really extremely attentive and great service. Throughout the meal, our water glasses were refilled numerous times and we were not rushed at all. After our leisurely meal, we ordered a Green Tea Mille Crepe and an order of fresh fruit. The crepe was very good, although the topping of green tea was a bit thick for us and we scraped it off and ate the rest. The fruit was fresh and delicious. We truly felt very welcomed and valued as customers here. We didn't drink anything other than water, so our bill was only about $100 (before tip) for the 2 hours we were there, but even as we left we felt valued by the serving staff and sushi chefs. An excellent meal and experience.

I always order their "obento box", which comes with a choice of an entrée from their daily-rotating list (so cute how they write them on a few chalkboards that they move around the restaurant for whoever's ordering). Everything I've ordered has always been delicious, from the various fish dishes (salmon / arctic char are particular favourites), the stir-fried pork, and their sushi rolls. The salad is invariably so fresh, and the small side of obanzai is always a treat :) Price point is unparalleled -- I think the bento was priced at $12 when I first came a few years ago, and it's still $12 now. Such a lovely cute restaurant -- service is fast and friendly, and the interior, while a bit small, is definitely very cosy and has that unique rustic Japanese aesthetic to it (including a lot of their tableware). This is definitely a must-try in the area, and I will no doubt be back very soon!

Cuisine: 6 Service: 7…read moreDecor: 7 Value: 6 Overall: 6 I have to preface that, if I had reviewed Hibino in the past, they likely would have received 4 stars. Unfortunately, my latest experience was such a letdown that I have to average that into this review. My usual order here over 10+ years has always been their Kaisen Don, which had some of the better quality sushi rice available in Queens. If you don't think sushi rice is important, then skip my review. If you do, then know that my preference is slight warm rice that does not clump together, with a nice touch of vinegar. Hibino seems to get this part right regularly, but not this past Sunday. It was cold, clumpy, and super light on seasoning. Furthermore, as soon as the bowl arrived, I was a bit skeptical since it's not the usual square box filled with premium goodies. Instead, it was a smaller round bowl with relatively common pieces of sashimi. In the past, there were toro, ikura, uni and scallop, but none were present on Sunday. The only premium pieces I received was the spotted prawn. The rest were salmon, yellowtail, bluefin tuna, sea bass, and arctic char. More importantly, some of the sashimi pieces were somewhat mushy and slightly fishy, not the best quality. On the other hand, we also ordered their Chirashi, which had seared toro, yellowfin tuna, salmon belly, yellowtail belly, shrimp, and flying fish roe. Between the proteins and rice is a layer of shredder egg. Sadly, rice was still cold and lacked flavor, but the egg did help a bit. Though I prefer the thin slices of sashimi in the Kaisen Don over the chunky pieces of fish in the Chirashi, I did prefer the latter on that day. Bottom line, I will give them another chance, but the downgrade on the quality of rice and premium seafood in the Kaisen Don was a major disappointment. Praying my next visit restores my faith in the restaurant.

I've had them before so I knew what to expect but it was way too salty, less flavorful. Had a very nice flavor, the salt overpowered it though. I tasted mushroom. The sauce stuck to the noodles well and the noodles were delicious. My daughter and husband ordered the spicy ramen and they said it was very very good. Couldn't decipher distinctly from other top notch ramen so it wasn't knock your socks off. From now on I'll order the base dish when I go places so I can judge better. The gyoza was cooked very nicely, came sizzling and the bun with meat was a little ugly, it looked boiled and unappetizing. The taste was just okay. The topping on it was notable. The waitress didn't help us at all when ordering. We weren't bowled over with the food, although it was noted the meat in the ramen was high level. It hit the spot but I will try other places in the search for our "return forever" ramen place.
