The food is OK. The sushi nope. The fried vegetable appetizer nope. I will eat the chicken Pad Thai and was stopping in weekly. It's pretty dingy but I normally stop at the store so I'm not disappointed. Real Pad Thai has cilantro. Maybe one out of 25 visits you might get. I take my own hot sauce. They always bring hot sauce that looks gross. Wipe the top off please. I take my own. With my doctoring the food is good. read more

I've put off reviewing this place because I really hate giving bad reviews. That being said, I use this medium to decide places to visit based on realistic reviews. Advertised as a Japanese restaurant, it really is not. The menu items are heavy on fried rice which I get considering my steamed rice was grossly over cooked to the point I couldn't eat it - and it was an enormous portion. I ordered a bento box and the fried items seemed to come straight from a box to the fryer. (I don't know this for a fact, just tasted that way.) The sashimi wasn't particularly fresh, though not to the point of smelly. I can't even suggest this as an alternative to Chinese fast food (which I adore actually). The salad was undressed iceberg lettuce and old. I guess I was supposed to douse it with the big bottle of yum sauce already sitting on the table. Although I've had some truly amazing sushi and Japanese fried and cooked experiences, I'm easy to please and enjoy the food for the place it is. This is the first time it was so bad, I simply couldn't eat it. I've added a star for the super friendly staff. On a side note however, the locals seem to love this place. read more

Pretty good, especially considering it's probably the only sushi in Corbin. Three stars only because the sushi/sashimi selection was pretty basic. I ordered tuna sashimi (nice and cold -good cut), Green Dragon (delicious with fresh avocado), Chilli Roll (not spicy but simple easy roll) and the Cupid roll (Awesome! Spicy lots of flavor and made with soy paper vs. typical nori). I would eat here again. The habachi is done at one flat top grill and each table orders from the menu unlike your typical seating around the habachi grill. read more

!!!!!VEGETARIANS BEWARE!!!!! This restaurant's menu is deceiving for vegetarians. A traditionally vegetarian soup is made with beef broth and there is no type of warning. Also, My fiancé and I ordered a garden salad each. It is by far one of the worst salads I've had. It tasted like a bagged salad which had been frozen and then thawed before being served. Furthermore, the salad arrived with yum-yum sauce already on it despite there being a bottle on the table which caused my already disappointed salad more so. They had no dressing for the salad and the yum yum sauce was left out on the table all day, which seems pretty likely to cause food poisoning. I would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

Not up to standards. I've eaten at a lot of Japanese places over the years, and know Japanese food quite well. These people don't know Japanese food, at all. My wife and myself first made the mistake of trying to order our sushi using the proper names. Nobody there knew what the Japanese terms for anything were. The sushi itself was bad, the teriyaki I had was soaked in too-sweet sauce, and they managed to even make unsweetened tea taste bad somehow (I think it was quite old). The ambiance was a total failure. Loud rap music does not a good Japanese place make. The ONLY reason to go here is that it's the only Japanese place for several counties. We really wanted Sushi and were in town, so we gave it a try. In a more competitive market like Lexington, it wouldn't stand a chance. read more

Our first visit, and it was awesome! We eat sushi frequently, and love a good hibachi dinner-Yamatos did not let us down! Our waitress Jasmine was friendly and accommodating, and the hibachi and sushi chefs were quick and talented! We always order a variety to share, and maybe we're just used to Oakland County Michigan prices, but this place is a great value! We only pass thru once or twice a year, but will definitely stop when we do-I don't know the area or if this place is in the middle of nowhere or unknown by locals, but hopefully everyone eats here! read more

I love Yamato! My wife and I usually go here for date nights, which isn't so difficult since we live close by. I've eaten at many japanese restaurants, both large and small, and Yamato is my favorite of them all. I ate at the highly-regarded Little Tokyo in Pigeon Forge, TN, and I was underwhelmed with their food. I looked at my then-girlfriend and stated: "I miss Yamato..." Despite a few other reviews here, I am very impressed with both the hibachi served at Yamato as well as the sushi. The "Crispy Crab Roll" is quite possibly the best sushi I have ever eaten. I am also a big fan of the Spicy California Roll. On the hibachi side, try the Yakiniku and Shrimp. If given a choice of any japanese restaurant, I would always choose Yamato. It might not be a 5-star restaurant, but it's relatively cheap and it tastes great. Always a good combination, in my opinion. read more

It costs 4$ more and suppose to be the same as the crispy crab roll, except have added spicy tuna or shrimp. He received a crispy crab roll just like mine. Although, it was delicious, it wasn't what we ordered and he ended up paying for it as he didn't mention it to the waitresses. read more

We thought the new opening would be better but boy were we wrong. We first got a poke bowl and a large ish sashimi platter. The fish was obviously frozen and when we ask they said it wasn't. It stunk and tasted awful. It was all fine they took it back and got us something else. Second time we come it's a couple hours before close, it takes no time to get seated but after we are we don't see the waitress for a good 20 minutes. It's about another 30 minute wait for our food when there's about ten people up front doing nothing while the waitresses are trying to work. The waitresses are very nice and will do their best to make sure you have a good meal but the food in the other hand is another story, I wish I could give it 0 stars but points for the nice staff. read more

First visit there with friends. 6 staff members very close to the door but we were not recognized by anyone until we asked to be seated. The place was chaotic and mismanaged. There is nothing aesthetically pleasing about this place and it isn't very clean. The only positive comment I can make is the food was ok. Will never eat in there again, but might consider carry out. My first experience dining here. My nephew chose Yamatos after his grade school award ceremony. It was truly a momentous occasion because my mother, brother, sister, and nephew and myself were all together for the first time in many years. We were greeted and seated quickly. The decor was suiting and definitely unique. Our drink orders were taken as we browsed the lunch menu and enjoyed the chat with our waiter, Sean. Salads were delivered and looked great. Tasted fantastic with their delectable and unique sweet ginger-like dressing that is made in-house. Entrees were delivered and looked amazing. I ordered the chicken and it was out of this world. Portions are plentiful and you'll need and WANT to take home what you couldn't finish. Everyone was happy with their meal. Great place. Great service. Great staff. Great food. Pleasantly surprised with this place. I got the Teriyaki Chicken Bento box. The salad was crisp and fresh and the dressing was sweet and unique which I like in my Japanese Asian dressings. The Teriyaki was good with great salty sweet flavor combination. The California Rolls were fresh and the miso soup was very flavorful. While not the best Japanese food I have ever had it was really good and when you consider the rural location Yamatos is a great choice if you are in Corbin have a craving for Japanese food. read more

This place can be a good dinning experience. The sauce that they offer is very tasty and unique and set out at the table for your convince. That being said, this place can not cook a rare, medium rare, medium, or even a medium well steak to save their life. The last 3-4 times I have visited I have specifically and clearly ordered my steak rare, yet it has come back well done every time and they have made no effort to correct their mistake. read more
