Unfortunately, our experience ended with…read moreour family being reported to Child Protective Services over a situation that was quickly determined to be nothing more than a dog bite. A few days before class, our daughter had been bitten on her side by a neighbor's dog. It was an incident we had already addressed within our family. During class, the instructor asked our daughter about the mark and she explained exactly what had happened. Despite this explanation--and despite the fact that most weeks we were physically present in the facility during the two hours our daughter was there for class--Epic chose to report our family to the Indiana Department of Child Services without contacting either parent first. As a result, a DCS caseworker came to our home and opened an investigation. During that visit, the caseworker examined the mark and took a photograph of it, explaining that it was clearly consistent with a dog bite and that documenting that fact was important for the record. The investigation was closed almost immediately. The DCS worker also told us directly that the situation should never have made it past the hotline. To be clear about what occurred: * Epic reported our family to Child Protective Services without contacting us * Parents were regularly present in the building during class times but were never approached about the mark * A DCS investigation was opened and a caseworker came to our home * The caseworker documented the mark and indicated it was clearly consistent with a dog bite * The case was closed quickly * The DCS worker stated the report should never have advanced through the system After we raised concerns about what happened, we received a formal letter from Epic's attorneys stating that the studio believes it acted appropriately under Indiana's mandatory reporting laws and warning us to ensure that anything we say publicly is truthful. So this review is simply that: the truth of what our family experienced. Mandatory reporting laws exist for an important reason. However, situations like this show how serious and disruptive a report can be when concerns are escalated without even a conversation with the parents. A simple question to us--who were frequently sitting in the building during class--could have clarified the situation immediately. Instead, our family experienced a government investigation that the responding caseworker said should never have moved forward in the first place. Because of this experience, we have withdrawn our daughter from Epic Dance.

When the pandemic hit, we knew it would be an indication of dedication as to why businesses would step up and answer the call to challenge and diversity or cave to the many existing pressures. The Star team chose to rise up and answer the call, bringing along with them a group of like-minded students. What came out of it was an even stronger team who demonstrated the life skills they taught: respect, discipline, communication & confidence. This weekend our daughter became one of the youngest black belts and has enjoyed being a student and now leader at Star. We can't say enough about Masters Mr. & Mrs. Birky, Ms. Torres, Mr. Cooper, Ms. E & C Gallegos, Mr. Schoettmer, Mr. Hartman & Mr. Hawkins along with all the other instructors who are learning to lead and assist in classes or who may no longer be at Star. You are an extraordinary team with life long goals both meaningful and purposeful. We appreciate the practice and effort you've given us, and as newly signed-up parents, we are now looking forward to our journey to black belt as well. I signed my daughter up for a year thinking she would learn technic and form along with dance…read moresteps. She had 2 years' experience already. She didn't learn much at CDN. More than half the class didn't know the choreography by show time at the end of the year. Parents like myself spent hundreds of dollars on multiple costumes ($30-40 each) just to watch a poorly organized recital with kids of all ages forgetting the choreography. I felt bad for the parents of preschool age kids because they just stood on stage, frozen, wearing amazing hair/makeup and costumes. It was baby cute and everyone laughed the first song but after several songs and changes of clothes it was no longer cute. Students who forget every song never really had the choreography in the first place. The teachers are young and inexperienced although the owner is kind and talented. The teachers need training in classroom management as well as how to teach real technique that the dancers can build upon year to year. If you are looking for a place for fun only, this is it. If you want your son or daughter to develop their love for dance, this is not the place for you. Even the pre teens and teens were only good if they had their own routines and passion. None of the talented ones seem to get it from being at this school.

After four years of my daughter attending this gym we have left…read more There were a couple of classes where a young male substitute teacher taught her class whom I thought was extremely rude. My daughter was uncomfortable because she's never had a male teacher and she is quite shy to be in with. When she won't give him a high five he would make her feel uncomfortable. I thought maybe things would change once she was more comfortable around him. She had one make up class to use before it expired. They only class that was available was with this teacher. I told him I signed her up for his class which he seemed happy. Now to the day of her makeup class. My daughter asked a question that he would not answer her. At the same time two other girls ask similar questions that he answered right away. He made her stand in the middle of the class until she answered her own question. This happened a second time but to make it worse he stopped the whole class to answer another girls question and again made my daughter stand to try to answer her own question. He then told her to go do something and get out of the way. This is not her normal class so she was not use to his style of couching. She did not want to return if her normal teacher was not going to be there because this young male teacher was her back up. It got to the point she would ask her teacher if she will be here next week. If he talked to students like this when there parents are sitting right there I can't imagine how he treats the girls when their parents aren't there. We started looking for another gym because she was so uncomfortable. We finally found one that she will make her new home. My daughter had one last class before her monthly enrollment was up. As we walked out she was really sad. We talked for a couple of minutes. She had a change of heart and wanted to talk to her teacher about what happen. There was no compassion towards my daughter. I was told that she doesn't want to discuss this matter that she thinks very highly of him. Also, he was her back up. She didn't let her discuss what happen or I am sorry that happen or I am sorry you felt that way. After this we walked out knowing we made the right decision to leave a gym after four years and almost $3000!

I haven't heard Lexi ever speak crossly. Except for many years ago (more than 15?) has their been anyone rude at the gym. I can't imagine anyone having anything bad to say about anyone currently there! The girls are inspired to do their best and if beginners, receive a well rounded introduction to gymnastics, please read hidden reviews as this gym has 3, 5star ratings that were not published for some odd reason I think it's a mistake and the one star should be hidden !
