Listen... I was praying to God that the reviews wouldn't apply to me, but it happened. We traveled from MI. Walked here from Hyde Park just for some calorie burning exercise to get here and be met with a dark restaurant. This is the second time in Tampa that wr have tried to have Jamaican cuisine only to be disappointed. Another couple was at the door right before us and was also baffled because they drove 30 minutes to get here. This business really needs to do better. Update your hours of operation. I get it, when your food is that good you can believe that you dont have to give good customer service, but you are definitely losing more than you're gaining. Two thumbs down unfortunately. No more Jamaican cuisine in Tampa for me, extreme waste of time!

    Drinks were so good!

This was a birthday dinner for my sis! We had such a great time. T was a great host who was very attentive. He gave great recommendations for the newbies but this was my second time visiting. The food was great, their drinks are bomb. I mean alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks I and vibes are right. It's a small family owned business that is so unrated. But quality will always prevail. We will return.

I would really like to know the REAL hours of this place. We drove an hour just to pull up and realize they're closed. We've never had their food but we would like to. We came on a Monday at 5pm.

This was a bittersweet experience. I am a Caribbean native so I try to support island cuisine even though I can cook it myself. Decided to try Yah Mon one evening with my family which consisted of my 2 year old. When we seated, I took out my child's sippy cup and was immediately told "no outside food or drinks". This was a sudden turn off. You never hear such ridiculous rules in other restaurants with the exception of Caribbean restaurants. Such antiquated thinking. The restaurant is supposed to be upscale Caribbean food but the appetizer plates were plastic and the napkins were paper. If the meals are over $30, cloth napkins and reusable plates should be standard. When it comes the food, again it is on the pricier side but it was extremely delicious. I had the Taste of the Islands entree which is perfect if you want to sample. The curry goat phenomenal, the oxtail, although only 2 pieces was flavorful. The dhalpouri with curry appetizer was also a great starter. I would suggest you at least try this establishment if but once. The food is good.

    Eating a delicious dinner!

The food was good--definitely not a five-star, but still edible. I recommend the mango and BBQ wings. The jerk options lacked seasoning and tasted more like plain grilled chicken. Service was professional and attentive, though handled by just one person all night. For the price, the overall experience felt underwhelming. No menus or QR codes are provided upon entry, and a 20% service charge is automatically added without clear communication--yet they still prompt for an additional tip. They were out of a good amount of food claiming "they were busy earlier" but no one was there and they were closed the day before without making note of it to the public. Not worth the cost, in my opinion. WAYYYY too overpriced. Could get much better food from a food truck...

Tasty and unique! It's been a while since I had Jamaican food and I have no regrets in picking this place to satisfy that craving. Our waiter was very attentive from the moment we walked in and service like that must be acknowledged. He did a great job of describing the dishes and providing us with options. He checked in as necessary to ensure we were having a good time. The location is an odd place but it feels very adventurous. The lights are dim and romantic - PERFECT PLACE FOR A DATE. It's worth mentioning that the COCONUT was divine and fresh! Was it shipped from the island? I'll never drink another coconut in tampa bay that is not from here! I opted to go with the Oxtail Pasta and omgggg, the flavors were divine! I never knew oxtails and pasta could go together, but the chef has managed to create a combination that is both satisfying and tasty. The pasta was creamy, but not overwhelming. The oxtails held the flavors and juices that when combined with the creaminess of pasta, it became an explosion of flavor. My friend ordered the chicken platter and I've never seen her do the happy dance like I did that day. Be ready to spend when visiting, it is easy to go over 100 for a single person, the quality of food and atmosphere does match the cost. Look forward to bringing more friends and family to this restaurant.

First time trying it and it was very nice setting, good service, but way to over priced. I had the Jerk chicken wings which was pretty good. The drink I ordered was $9 and way to small for the price. I tried the Mac and cheese and it taste like simply cheese and noodles. Wasn't a fan of it honestly. I also ordered the chocolate cake, that was pretty good. Overall I'd say it was all ok. I'll be back to try some of the other foods but overall it was okay- Just really expensive for what you get.

The food and service were amazing, except to learn after the fact that a 20% service charge was added to a party of three. That's on me but it should have been noted by the server. I would rate the food and service a 5 but beware of the service charge on all orders.

This is likely a 7-8 ounce glass in this photo.

Yah Mon was a Caribbean inspired establishment; but this was not some beachside shack, not this was a tastefully appointed dining area, with dark seats, white paper table cloths & formal looking white upholstered booths. Soulful island music wafted in the air whilst a large HDTV screen showed a looping Caribbean beach scene, complete with endless soothing waves. All the art on the walls were beach or gently rolling surf scenes. A hostess stand greets you as you enter. A young man greeted me with a smile and welcomed me in finding a table by the bar. It was dinner time in a Friday, however there were only two other sets of diners - perhaps its early yet... Each table was adorned with a different sign boasting a pearl of wisdom... 'Don't count the days... make the days count'... 'Good things come to those who HUSTLE'.... I was in for an education whilst I 'chilled'... The man instructed me that the menu was online at their website. I thought that was all done with after COVID passed, but apparently I was wrong. I suspect that their demographic does not include the AARP crowd. As I called up the menu I noticed the first thing shown is a LONG disclaimer: "Kindly note that a 20% service charge will be included with each order to support the seamless execution of our services & maintain exceptional standards for your satisfaction. Most of our dishes are gluten-free, made with organic products & seasonings, & contain no MSG, artificial preservatives, fillers, hormones, antibiotics, or injections. Meals may take approximately twenty-five to thirty-five minutes to prepare and cook. Depending on demand, meals can be finished before or after the approximate time. Everything is made fresh. All sales are final; no refunds. One payment for a party of 6 or more. Our no-cash-refund policy states that no monetary refunds will be given, though alternative refunds may be offered, such as store credit, depending on the situation" Talk about a mouthful filled with red flags... 20% service charge mandatory... all sales final... ! I gulped and the hesitatingly looked at the menu pricing... A Coke... $7. A Red Stripe (known as the cheapest beer in the islands)... $8. Entrees consisted of jerk chicken, oxtail, wild caught fish... the lowest priced Entree was $31 plus that mandatory 20%... so much for the $$ price rating on Yelp.... The fish averaged about $49 plus that 20%. I seriously considered leaving as these dollars were just not making sense to me... but the server returned and started rattling off all the tasty appetizers to get me going... Jamaican patties, jerk wings... it sounded good & quite frankly I was tired & couldn't be bothered to try and find another place. I relented and ordered a $7 Coke. I didn't even look at the appetizer prices, but rather decided on just an entree. Goat appeared, but after seeing what goats were eating on the island of Socotra, I passed. A Signature Ribeye was offered, however it stated it would be prepared Well Done only... Sacrilege!!! Who in their right mind would do that to a Ribeye?! To keep my blood pressure from climbing I opted for Janise's Jerk Chicken Pasta which was bowtie noodles and spicy jerk chicken with notes of asparagus. $35 plus mandatory 20% My server warned me it would take about 25 minutes to prepare... no worries to me as I had no place to go. My Coke arrived in a short, thin glass. Likely holding about 8 ounces. Maybe $1 per ounce... When it was delivered he tried once again to entice me into an appetizer to 'snack on' whilst I waited... I declined About 10 minutes after ordering, the entree arrived at my table; a cool 15 minutes faster than promised, making me wonder if the extended time forecast is just a ploy to get an appetizer ordered, or they have a very efficient microwave. The square white plate was nicely presented with a few small sprigs of greenery to offset the creamy pasty & blackened chicken. The taste was pretty good. Just the right amount of spice & heat for a good flavour. The chicken was just about to enter dry territory but the sauce from the pasta helped keep it in check. My Coke disappeared as I ate, but my server offered no refill... at $7 a glass (plus 20% surcharge) I guess they are barely scraping by. I finally caught his eye and asked for a glass of water, to which he tried on his upselling cap once more, trying to encourage me into a bottle of sparkling mineral water... uh, no thanks. Tap will do. The other remaining couple finished up then the server approached me with his 'checkout machine' in hand. There would be no paper receipt to preview the charges... instead he rapped a few buttons then ceremoniously presented me with the gadget, strategically navigated to the 'Tip Shaming' screen. I guess 20% mandatory isn't enough, they wanted more. He waxed that the 20% was for the kitchen staff... I could feel I better get out of here quick before the owner wanted me to contribute to their IRA

Some of the best authentic Caribbean food I have had, hands down. I'm from Miami and I'm Jamaican so I know good Caribbean food. Period. Had the Taste of the Islands plate which included oxtail, curry chicken (typically curry goat but it wasn't ready) and jerk chicken. The jerk was extremely flavorful probably the best I have had ever. Everything was honestly amazing. Had a beef patty and cock bread for an appetizer and both were phenomenal. The service was amazing. The blue lemonade was great as well. Family run business so everything feels very personal and catered to you. I will definitely be back whenever I am back in Tampa. Knocks jerk hut out the park, especially if you're looking for a more luxurious personal dining experience.

Came here 2 hours before closing on Sunday evening. There was one waiter greeting walk ins and serving tables. Low noise level and the lighting was almost romantic. The Caribbean music was not too loud. Despite the wait to be seated or to receive the food it was worth the wait. The menu can be easily looked up online, however, they do run out of some items. Pretty drinks and neat plates of food were presented to us. I commend our waiter for being able to service everyone with such a calm and pleasant disposition. Customer service is not easy and he handled it with grace.

Food is amazing and great. Service is also great but slow but this is due owners finding quality employees. I love that the portions are big, if it wasn't for the fact we were going somewhere else after dinner, we would have had to go for lunch the next day. I had my all time favorite the oxtail dinner, so juicy any yummy. The only real negative to me was I felt cramped and needed more space. It was pretty elbow room.

I also asked for extra gravy on the rice. I waited for about 10 minutes and received my hefty order. My dad had the oxtails, and said he wish he had more oxtails in the dinner as there was only 4 or 5. However they were on the larger size in comparison to other Jamaican spots. My mom loved the spice on the Jerk chicken as did I. It had that kick you expect and needed. My brown stew chicken was very good. The chicken was tender and the browning sauce was really good especially with the rice and peas. We did all say we wish there was more peas within the rice. The patties were fresh and I had both the spinach and curry chicken. The curry had a kick and was very savory. It made me want to order their curry chicken meal the next time I stop in. The young lady at the register reassured me that the food is kept under a warmer in the kitchen while waiting on a protein. The warmer must be broken because it was lukewarm. As anticipated after sitting for 20+ minutes. A young lady that ordered about 4-5 people behind me got fried whole catfish. They were able to fry her catfish before my snapper. As someone that cooks Im not quite sure on the difference in cook/prep but here we are. She's out the door with her catfish. And Im STILL waiting on my snapper. 25 minutes and counting. My honey found this place online while visiting Tampa. Eight of us got there to find out it is take-out only. How disappointing! We walked into the small hole in the wall, only to be treated like 2nd class citizens by the guy taking orders. He was NOT friendly at all! No greeting, no explanation of menu items, nothing. We should've taken that as a clue and bounced. As for food, plates are plentiful. My curry chicken was tender with lots of gravy. I wished it had potatoes and carrots as I like at home so that sucked. Rice and peas were soft. Cabbage was well seasoned, but the portion was small. When I asked the guy what side options I could choose from, he told me the plate included macaroni and cheese (super nasty attitude). After that unpleasantry, they had the audacity to leave the mac & cheese off of my plate. Additional cabbage would've been nice, at least! Others enjoyed the oxtails, jerk chicken, and wings. Everyone's mac & cheese looked stale and hard and all of them said it was awful. The plates included cornbread which I do not eat. Another bummer: no plantain or festival bread, my 2 fav's. I don't know what time of Jamaican food is in Tampa, but it is hands down subpar compared to what I'm used to at home.
