Mehhh!!! Considering that home (Southern California) has plenty of good Caribbean/Jamaican food places to choose from, this place did not hit! My honey found this place online while visiting Tampa. Eight of us got there to find out it is take-out only. How disappointing! We walked into the small hole in the wall, only to be treated like 2nd class citizens by the guy taking orders. He was NOT friendly at all! No greeting, no explanation of menu items, nothing. We should've taken that as a clue and bounced. As for food, plates are plentiful. My curry chicken was tender with lots of gravy. I wished it had potatoes and carrots as I like at home so that sucked. Rice and peas were soft. Cabbage was well seasoned, but the portion was small. When I asked the guy what side options I could choose from, he told me the plate included macaroni and cheese (super nasty attitude). After that unpleasantry, they had the audacity to leave the mac & cheese off of my plate. Additional cabbage would've been nice, at least! Others enjoyed the oxtails, jerk chicken, and wings. Everyone's mac & cheese looked stale and hard and all of them said it was awful. The plates included cornbread which I do not eat. Another bummer: no plantain or festival bread, my 2 fav's. I don't know what time of Jamaican food is in Tampa, but it is hands down subpar compared to what I'm used to at home. Went to Bee's Island Kitchen for the first time with my sister tonight. They were about to close in half an hour and only had Curry Goat and Curry Chicken. LET ME TELL YALL!!!!! This tenderness of the goat had me and my sister speechless. The flavor in EVERY SINGLE PIECE OF FOOD from the goat to the Mac and cheese to the rice to the cabbage to the corn bread. I've been on the hunt for some really authentic Jamaican food here in Tampa. I stumbled upon B's and decided to give it a try. I got a large jerk chicken plate and it came with rice and peas, cabbage, mac and cheese, and corn bread. I also got a lemonade to drink. The jerk chicken was good and it was hot (spicy) but not in a bad way. Jamaican Mac and cheese will be Jamaican Mac and cheese but this is definitely some of the better that I've had! Cabbage and corn bread were great too. The service was pretty good and straight forward, definitely a pleasant experience especially from the owner of the barbershop next door. THE AMOUNT OF FOOD IS NEVER ENDING! Each meal were $24 a box and I was kinda skeptical at the price but let me tell you! It's soo much food!! The meals come with cornbread, steamed cabbage, a large portion of Mac and cheese and on the bottom of all that meat is rice and peas. It's 100% worth the price! The location is a definite pick up so don't expect any seating. Most people I saw were just ordering at the window and the food would come out in about 5 minutes. This place is a great example of "looks can be deceiving" because while the store might not be in the best area, the food is some of the best in town. I have been looking for some good jerk chicken in Tampa since I moved here and this place definitely made my list. It's clean, the owner is friendly, the food is hot and delicious, the portions are large, and it's clean! The more I eat at smaller establishments like this, the more I realize that cleanliness is hard to come by. For me, the jerk chicken was just a littleeee too salty. It does not taste salty at all, but my ears were definitely ringing a little bit after I ate it. That should not deter you at all. He gave me a ridiculous amount of food. The platter came with mac and cheese, rice, cornbread, and collard greens? I think. I wish the chicken had a little more of a char flavor on it, but it was amazing. This is a literally what you call "A hole in the wall". I was recommended to try here from my father in law and I honestly think that was the best advice he has given me. It's one of those "don't judge a book by its cover" restaurants, that can only occupy 3 people, with a relatively limited menu, in a strip plaza next to a bunch of hair salons/barbershops. But Boy o Boy, the food is delicious, my fave oxtail and jerk in the Tampa Bay Area. The food is plentiful and flavorful! I can make 3 meals from one box. The price is reasonable as well. Only problem that makes me snatch a star away is the lack of customer service. Thank God I'm from the Caribbean so I can handle it but they really need to do better when answering the phone and talking to customers. I literally asked over the phone what exactly the large meal includes and I was told "everything" Ummmm ok... The oxtail. The marinated sauce went into the bone. The meat is soft but have not fall off the bone yet. I prefer fall off the bone cooking. My dish come with good bean rice and braise cabbage. Both side are great. The wait for the food is not bad. I got my food 15 minutes after order. It is considered fast with so many order ahead of me. He is a really nice dude, I don't know his name but I always address him as Ras. Well a few years ago he hired help and that help is still here. That help is his 1 star. No personable attitude at all. He acts as if your bothering him and he could care less about any of the customers. I only order one thing, even though the food is good, I am addicted too the Mac and cheese. Well I stopped by today after not coming all of 2018, and he is still as miserable as he was back in early 2017. I'm just not coming back. The food isn't worth the obvious disdain he has for customers. MAN respect the people coming through the door, if not for them at least for yourself.
