Oxtail Dinner Special with collard green
    Juanita S.

Was craving oxtails one Sunday afternoon and lucked up on this spot! It's been about 5-6 years since I've last been here but I remembered them to be be great and this visit did not disappoint! You have the option to call in your order, which is recommended since the inside space is limited. We decided to actually go in and take a look at the impressive menu on the wall. Just a side note, most Caribbean restaurants run out of oxtail by noon! The Island Crew not only had a plentiful amount in the afternoon, around 4, but they did not skimp on the potions! If you take a look at the picture, I received an unheard of amount! Gravy everywhere and the oxtail was LEAN- another plus! Don't forget to check out the banana pudding in the refrigerator! Another plus. We ordered the conch fritters as well and they tasted like we were on vacation! Don't sleep on this Tampa gem!

TLDR: Vegan Devil crab!!! Do it! Best jerk chicken in Tampa & complimentary water ice. We first tried island crew back when it was a food truck & I am so thankful they are still sharing this amazing food now at a new more permanent location. We drove 40mins to have dinner here tonight & it was so worth it. Solid portion size & super friendly service. Plenty of vegan options & the flavors are unmatched. Spicy jerk chicken & Cajun rice with cabbage, yummm. My husband had the chicken curry with red beans & rice, I of course tried it & man, it was so good. Parking can be limited as it's a popular dining option on a Saturday night, but do not let that deter you. It's a must try!!! This food smelled so good we couldn't even wait to take a picture before digging in.

You must wear your masks in order to come in. This is a 6 feet social distance restaurant so that everyone will stay clear of the Coronavirus When placing an order, you will receive a free icee. Yummy! 5 stars for sure. I had a taste for conch salad and conch fritters, so I found this place on Yelp. It's not to far from my daughter's house, so I was happy about that. Let me tell you, my grandmommy is from the Bahamas and when I tell you this taste like her conch salad and conch fritters, Lordy :-). I love Caribbean food and since that's what my family cooks a lot, I was definitely glad I stopped here. Next time, I'll select everything I ordered and will order Mac and cheese and shrimp and grits.

Of all the Caribbean cuisine establishments I have been too in Tampa (there aren't many), I received the best customer service here, thanks to the restaurant owner's son,Junior. What a pleasant young man! A casual dining spot in a strip plaza. The menu prices are actually reasonable as well. I opted to try the oxtail with brown rice and plantains while the hubs had the jerk pork with cabbage. We also ordered a side of Mac n cheese. I've had better jerk pork so that wasn't my fave. But everything was delicious. Thoroughly enjoyed the oxtail; tender, flavorful and it was a great portion size. The Mac n cheese was delicious as well. Will order again! To top it off, they offer a free scoop of Mango Italian Ice, which was to die for. So refreshing. I will definitely try them again!

    Delicious curry chicken.

I've only been here once for take-out, but this is my new favorite hidden gem in my neighborhood. Located in a strip mall near the Amscot, there was plenty of parking available on a Sunday. Since I had looked at people's pictures of the menu ahead of time, I knew exactly what I wanted to order: the curry chicken with cabbage and rice and peas. The curry chicken came with three generous on-bone hunks of chicken in a flavorful but not too spicy sauce with a couple of potatoes. The meat was tender and fell off the bone. Huge portions of rice and cabbage accompanied it, and it was easily enough for two meals. I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly the food was ready. The meal was very reasonably priced and came with a fountain soda. Both people working were extremely friendly and nice, and when I saw them scooping a frozen dessert and inquired about it, one of the workers gave me a huge scoop of their mango Italian ice to try - for free - yum! I can't wait to go back and try more items on their menu.

I ordered a whole red snapper, garlic potatoes, sweet plantain, and deviled crabs. This was my first time trying deviled crabs and they were absolutely delicious. There wasn't much crab inside but the breading was also delicious. The red snapper was moist and flavored well. The garlic potatoes were kind of bland and the plantain was delicious. The staff is very nice and patient. They're located pretty close to other interests and shopping. So if you wanted a quick bite while shopping then this is a good place to go. I definitely suggest trying the deviled crabs.

The cakes are slathered with lots of icing, which I mostly removed because I like my cake without. Which to me tells me how good the cake is that it can stand alone without the frosting. Hummingbird, lemon, chocolate, and carrot cakes reign supreme. The frosting on the chocolate cake makes the cake, it's fantastic. We also tried the massive cinnamon rolls which are 5 stars! I will definitely be visiting Wright's for cakes for the next party. It's sure to be a party favorite! And excited to get back to try some sandwiches, the Alpine cake, and Chill Bros icecream!

I arrived around 2:20 p.m. and was let in by a worker at the front door, who told me they were closing shortly and suggested I head to the deli first if that was what I wanted. Once I walked in, however, a cashier yelled to me that they were closed. I was a little confused because I had just been let in by a worker who knew I was coming inside. From there, the experience felt a bit chaotic. There were quite a few people in the store, and I felt like the workers were very displeased by my presence. I honestly felt like I was a bother. I completely understand that I arrived close to closing, so I tried to be respectful of their time and rushed through the store to grab a few items. I had driven an hour to get there, so I wanted to at least make the most of the trip. When I went to check out, I initially got in one line, and the cashier was finishing up with the customer already there and directed me to another line, so I followed her instructions. I had a basket with my items and wasn't sure if I was supposed to empty it myself. There wasn't an obvious place to leave the empty basket, and the cashier never indicated that she would take it from me. I apologized and explained that it was my first time there. She told me that next time I should come during the week so I could browse more. As I was leaving, I noticed so many people trying to enter the store and being turned away because it was now past closing. That made me think Mazzaro's may want to reconsider its Saturday hours. They are clearly a very popular and well-known store, yet being open from only 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturdays and being closed on Sundays makes it difficult for people who work typical Monday-Friday, full-time hours to visit. I take responsibility for not checking the hours before making the drive, and I understand that the employees were probably ready to go home. However, I still think there is a difference between enforcing closing time and making a customer feel unwelcome. Unfortunately, I did not feel warmly greeted or welcomed during my visit, and it put a damper on the entire experience.

Got the roast beef club on cuban bread, added mayo and pickles, and it was toasted to perfection. The roast beef was so rare and tender, the bacon was one of the best bacons I've ever had (insanely crispy but not oily, and maintained it's crispiness the entire meal even though I'm such a slow eater). The tomatoes and lettuce were firm--didn't squeeze out of the sandwich or make a mess. And I'm usually not a fan of pickles but it was so fresh and added a flavor to break up the meat + bread taste! The service was phenomenal. It's a family-owned restaurant and everyone is so nice. The guy who took my order was so patient and helpful (I was having major decision paralysis). The vibe is clean, spacious, cute, and super homey / themed. It's also part grocery with German bevs, snacks, and dried goods (and also fresh goods behind the counter and on the menu ofc). However, this is not the place to get a Reuben. Super thin, barely any meat or flavor. It is mostly eating bread. Avoid. Up next, I can't remember what the other sandwich was, but it was bad. I think it was a Cuban, but not sure. It was straight bread. Take a look at the pic. Now, the only above average food item I tried was the German potato salad. I would come back here only for that. I checked the menu online before going and there was no mention of the slice specials which I couldn't see easily from the line. I also couldn't see the slice bar or flavors available while in line so that wasn't helpful. The fountain for drinks is behind the counter so you can't get yourself a refill. Instead, you have to go through the crowd again to ask an associate to do it for you. Associates were helpful with my questions. No one was wiping tables down between customers. I ordered the Yo Adrian, Bianca slice, cannoli and lobster tail. The Yo Adrian was okay. Too much soft bread, not enough cheese, good amount of onions and some of the meat was chunks rather than shaved. The Bianca slice was primarily burnt on the bottom and didn't seem fresh which is sad considering we were there before noon. The cannoli was good. The lobster roll pastry was great; likely because it was fresh. The ice cream is in boxes, which have had the top cut off and the cardboard was wet and peeling in one of the boxes I saw while waiting in line. I think skipping the ice cream seems like a safe choice. I won't be rushing back but will return at some point to try a breakfast sandwich on a NY bagel and order a whole pie to try so it's fresh.
