For a smallish restaurant they offer a lot of big flavors. Be sure to try the stuffed grape leaves and the old stand by - chicken shawarma . Both packed with vibrant Mediterranean flavors. Our server did a great job of making sure we were well taken care of thought the meal. The interior was ok, felt like a Mediterranean restaurant inside a Kansas strip mall. Nothing special.

If you are a human being and you enjoy eating, you need to come and visit Yafa Café! LOL Seriously, it is some of the BEST and most FRESH Mediterranean food in the area. Both ladies who helped us were so kind!! It's a small dining area (fits about 25 people). Let's dive into a few details: 1) Hummus - light and creamy, served with olive oil and herbs 2) Pita bread - freshly grilled, warm, soft, lovely stretchy texture, perfect for scooping up that hummus or baba ganoush! 3) Baba Ganoush - absolutely excellent. Best in the city. Served with olive oil, herbs, and a small bit of spicy sauce on the edge (easy to avoid, easy to enjoy!) 4) lentil soup - creamy! Wonderful flavor. I'm sure it's authentic in texture, I would enjoy a little bit more texture. 5) salad - pretty simple, but fresh as can be! 6) pistachio baklava - great flavor and texture 7) hareeseh - sweet cake bread, kind of like cornbread. It's sweetened with a rosewater simple syrup, but it was not overly rosey. Fun to try! Mixed Kabobs for Two Plate! (truthfully could serve 4 adults IMO) 1) chicken - so well flavored, and not overcooked and dry. 2) kufta - well flavored! Loved the warm spices and fresh herbs. I've had dry kufta before, and this was anything but dry! 3) lamb - soft/tender, and they let the natural taste come through - not bland. 4) rice - do not underestimate a good rice to balance out the meal. Yum! 5) freshly grilled veggies - such good depth of flavor!!!!! grilled to perfection - nothing was soggy or undercooked. Loved the grilled flavor. 6) tzatziki sauce - of course, so good! You had better believe it Batool (Yafa's LOVELY owner) - we will be back!!!! I need to get another job so I can enjoy many more Yafa meals!!! :)

My first visit here. Such a quaint place with big aroma and taste! The hummus and pita, delicious! I ordered the shawarma plate, absolute yum! The staff was very attentive and made certain we had everything we needed and then some! The food was hot and the service was wonderful! Will be back!

My wife and I stopped in on a Friday night and had a good meal. The Hummus here is delicious. We had entrees as well that were good. The most outstanding thing here is the family that operates this place. The service so attentive and friendly. Good food/great service, a combination that can be hard to find.

This place while not the prettiest from the outside is AMAZING food wise!!! My son brought me on 20 Sept 25 for my birthday. We got there shortly after they opened and were immediately greeted and seated. We placed our order (I ordered food I had only heard about and seen on an Australian cooking show.. Ba-ba-guh noosh and chicken Bur-Ahn-nee!! I felt terrible because I couldn't eat it all (I TRIED too)...1- my stomach was stuffed and 2- we were on our way to the botanical park and didn't want it sitting in the car. I tried to make it Sunday at home... needless to say it was NOT THE SAME The food was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!! If I didn't live over an hour away I would go all the time!! The service and attentiveness was INCREDIBLE!!! The ambiance is warm and inviting!!

Yafa Combo Plate, Spanakopita and Lentil Soup. It was delicious!! Great service as always!

    Lamb Kabob

The food was very good it tasted homemade. I had a lamb kabob plate with a pistachio baklava both were very good. The staff seemed to care about making sure all of the customers were taken care of.

    Nice menu!

I read reviews from Steve D and Yena. So glad I listened! Yafa Cafe is outstanding!! I spent 20 years in Wichita where they have a huge Lebanese community and lots of wonderful Mediterranean food. This place reminded me of some of my favorites there. A small family owned restaurant, great food, great portions, and a super friendly family to cook for you and provide excellent service. What a treat to have finally made it here and discovered this wonderful establishment. The grape leaves are absolutely outstanding! Probably the second best I've ever had and I've had a lot! The Gyro Plate was very good. They don't shave the meat off but instead slice it off and then char it so it's a little thicker and quite lovely. The lentil soup was delicious. I felt that it needed a little salt and so did the diners next to me. But that made it irresistibly good. My wife was under the weather so I brought her some chicken Shawarma home and she said it was fantastic. The hummus may be the best I've ever had and the tabouli is definitely top three. This is considering over three decades of Mediterranean food on a fairly frequent basis. Yafa Cafe is truly a neighborhood gem and we will happily make the drive over from Lee's Summit. SO GOOD!

Holy WOW! We just came back from our first visit and I still can't believe how delicious everything was and how full I am. We tried to come here yesterday before a movie, but we didn't plan our timing well and it was very busy, so we came back today, after a normal lunch rush time. There were still a lot of full tables and I think other people probably had the same idea as us. A Palestinian family owned restaurant, the decor is simple but they have Palestinian knick knacks decorating the walls and counters. Tables have a simple tatreez tablecloth under glass. We ordered kibbeh for our appetizer. I ordered a cup of soup (it was a delicious bowl of soup size, really!) along with a vegetarian plate and salad for the side. My other half got the Lamb mansaf plate with a cup of soup as his side. Everything was so tasty, flavorful, and fresh. The kibbeh came to us hot and crispy, with a garlic tzatziki sauce. We were shocked how quickly we devoured it. (Note, pictures ooh menu show 5-6 pieces but it's actually 3) The lentil soup is topped with a generous amount of sumac--YES!! A heavy sumac hand is my favorite hand! The dolmas were served warm, with lots of lemon and more sumac. Falafel was all chickpea, more Palestinian/Jordanian than Egyptian or Greek style--it was some of the best falafel I've had. Really enjoyed how lemon forward the tahini sauce was too. I think the rice was alright (I had some of my partner's with the toasted slivered almonds, and that totally elevated the rice). The baba ganoush is SILKY smooth, and not too smoky. It was perfect in my opinion. I loved the hummus--absolutely doused with delicious olive oil. I'm not a huge lamb fan, but I had some of my partner's dish. The lamb was falling off the bone, stewed, and tasty, with a warm yogurt sauce. He absolutely loved the dish. We are definitely coming back!

    Greek Salad
    Maggie C.

Their large salad portion is huge!!!! I got the Greek salad with chicken. A very good portion on top and it was marinated so well. I should have just gotten the regular portion, I only ended up eating about half of the greens. Service was lovely, but we didn't know that you pay up front. I got a piece of walnut baklava to go, it was a really small slice that was 3.50$.. We did ask for a box to go for another meal, but the box had flakes of something in it. We were in a hurry so we just wiped it off and used it anyway...

Pre-COVID, it was…read morehands down one of the best deals in town, and even now it's still a dollar or two cheaper than most Euro-Mediterranean places. They've stood the test of time in OP, Olathe, and Leawood, and for good reason. For this visit, I ordered the Classic Gyro -- pita stuffed with gyro meat, onions, and tomatoes, with tzatziki on the side. I always swap for their spicy tzatziki, which isn't an upcharge but is a big upgrade in taste -- creamy, tangy, spicy, and totally unique. Other restaurants just give you regular tzatziki plus sambal or hot sauce if you want heat. Mr. Euro's spicy tzatziki is in a league of its own: orange-hued, balanced, and absolutely addictive. If they bottled it, I'd buy it. I also added a beef souvlaki skewer ($8). It was seasoned with Greek spices and a good portion size. I'd prefer it cooked medium rare, but they don't do it to order. My nitpick? I wish it came with its own sauce -- luckily, dipping it in leftover spicy tzatziki still worked perfectly. Other items I've enjoyed: Steak pita - a good alternative if you want steak instead of gyro meat. Moussaka ($6 side) - baked eggplant + ground beef casserole topped with a luscious béchamel sauce. Like Greek lasagna. Delicious when the topping isn't over-browned. Dolmades - grape leaves stuffed with beef, rice, herbs, with a lemon wedge. When on point, they're the best I've had anywhere -- moist, bright, and balanced. But consistency can vary. Soups - lentil (fine, but not my favorite) vs. the lemon chicken orzo, which is Greek chicken noodle soup perfected. Comforting, citrusy, hearty -- my ideal version of chicken soup. Sides and extras: Spicy feta dip - surprisingly delicious even for someone who's not big on feta. Garlic potato dip - new, but definitely on my list to try. Rice - decent, but not the most flavorful I've had. Still works as a filler. Spanakopita - good, but there are other items I'd choose first. Desserts: From what I've tried, the baklava (solid, though not KC's best), tiramisu (fine), and opera cake (still on my list) are worth noting. But they usually have more than just those three in the case, so you'll have other choices too. Small nitpicks: The gyro toppings come as large tomato slices and onion ring slices. I personally prefer them diced so they're easier to eat in the sandwich (I dice them up at home). That's just me, though -- plenty of people probably like it the way it is. Consistency can vary a bit -- sometimes the gyro meat is oversalted, or the dolmades come out a touch dry. Final note: please bring back the chicken gyro! My mom absolutely loved it, and we'd happily choose Mr. Gyro's over the one other place that still offers it. Rating: 4.5 stars (rounded to 4). Occasional inconsistency keeps it shy of 5, but between the value, authentic flavors, and that spicy tzatziki that should be bottled, this is still one of my top spots.

The salad, pita and hummus, came with the plate and everything was delicious. I tried the Kefta kabob plate with mixed meats. Our server checked on us frequently, filling our water each time. I also liked that it wasn't allowed environment, just some low conversation and some pleasant background music.

Basha Bash: I really wanted to love this spot. Based on the…read morestellar reviews, I was excited for a hidden Greek gem in the heart of OP, but unfortunately, our experience was far from an "Opa!" moment. The Service I arrived first and the place was nearly empty, yet the energy felt frantic. The server/ hostess was very rushed and business-like but seemed overwhelmed, running around like a chicken with her head cut off. After declining a black tea multiple times (once they realized they were out of chai), We had to practically stop her in mid-step for every follow-up once the rest of my party arrived. She never stopped on her own to ask us if we needed anything or if we were enjoying our meal. The Food The meal was a series of "weird" choices: The Hummus Situation: Our entrees were supposed to come with hummus, Rice and a side salad. Instead of serving The hummus with the entree, it was plopped onto the side salad plate before the entree arrived. I've eaten a lot of Mediterranean food, and I've never seen it served that way. The Garlic Sauce: This was a huge letdown. It looked and tasted like straight mayonnaise with a hint of garlic powder--not the authentic, pungent toum or A fresh bright white garlic sauce you'd expect. The tzatziki sauce might have been the best thing on the plate as it tasted fresh and authentic. The Meat: This was a Jekyll and Hyde as some of the meat was tender but some was overcooked and it was like that for everybody's meal whether they got beef, lamb or chicken. The Rice: Every entree was served over saffron rice that was dry, almost like it had been sitting out sunbathing for the day. The Falafel: Good crunch, but the inside was on the dry side. The Vibe As someone with a background in the industry, one thing really stood out: while our server was struggling to keep up with the only two tables in the restaurant, a cook with an apron was sitting in the lobby looking bored and disinterested. It's never a good look for staff to be lounging in front of customers regardless of how busy the restaurant is. Final Verdict Maybe it was just an off night, but for the price point, it doesn't compete. When you compare the quality and value to places like Meddys, Darna, or Mr. Gyros, this was extremely subpar. Sadly, I won't be rushing back.
