Like most folks I was focused on the overlooks and ignored this spot. After visiting I am kicking myself for being so shortsighted. This place is great. The museum is small yet very informative. It showcases the people who lived here and has several neat items on display. The things that I found so interesting were their dolls and figures made from twigs. Several were on display and they helped give you a picture into the lives of these people who lived here 800 years before. The ruins are similar to the pueblo style ruins throughout this region. They are less intact than some at the nearby Wupatki so do not expect large free standing pueblos. Despite that, it was pretty easy to walk around and get a feel for their living space. The most impressive point to me was the view of the nearby San Francisco peaks. That view must have been pretty terrifying when the volcano exploded. I hope you heed my advice and add this to your itinerary.

Parking was easy and plentiful and after parking you will see signage leading you to the trail. They also placed signs along the wooded trail explaining the small ruins of a 800 year old ancestral Puebloan village. Afterwards you can step back in time while visiting the small museum of handmade crafts by regional tribes and artifacts that date back as far as 2000 to 4000 years. I learned a lot about the prehistoric people and the surrounding land. In the museum there is a small gift shop that offers typical tourist merchandise at a reasonable price. Pass Village Camp turnoff on your right. Keep going straight. Watch for sign. You'll turn left on a dirt road that takes you back toward the freeway but not on to it. The signs will get you there.

The employees were friendly and very knowledgeable. I totally recommend!

The Desert View Watchtower is a 70 foot iconic stone structure that can be seen from quite a…read moredistance away. It has four stories and was designed by architect Mary Colter in 1932. The Watchtower is located in the Desert View area next to the East entrance. You are able to enter and explore the lower level of the Watchtower called the Kiva Room. There are many windows that you can view the Grand Canyon from. The interior of the tower also has a lot of beautiful stone carvings on the walls. In the Desert View area are bathrooms, a gift shop, general store, and a trading post. Just outside the watchtower is Desert View Point. At this viewpoint you can see the Colorado River make a sharp 90-degree turn to the west. If you drive west on Desert View Drive, there are quite a few other beautiful viewpoints along the way until you get to Grand Canyon Village. If you are traveling on the on US 89, you can get to Desert View by turning west onto State Route 64 in Cameron, AZ. Then travel about 25 miles until you get to the East Entrance. The Desert View area is right after you enter the park. The Watchtower is easy to locate as soon as you enter. It is a popular spot because this is the first viewpoint you can visit as you enter the park. So expect some crowds.

The Kaibab National forest covers 1.6 million acres, from canyons to prairies and mountain peaks. There are three sections: the North Kaibab Ranger District (north of Grand Canyon National Park), the Tusayan Ranger District (south of Grand Canyon National Park), and the Williams Ranger District. There are several visitor centers that have information about the area and things to do. Some of the national forest is scarred by forest fire, but new plant life is colonizing those areas again.

On a lighter note, and certainly not meaning any disrespect for the former sentiment, there is a pokemon go gym here... if you're still into that sort of thing. If you are looking for a place to let the kids run around, head North a little bit, to the softball field area closer to Highway 40. Probably safer, and definitely a lot more space for them to burn off some energy earned pent up in the hotel room watching bad basic cable.

Small plane which holds two sets of tandem divers. They don't offer a camera diver to film you, but the video and photos come out great by the one camera the instructor has strapped to his wrist. Because of the altitude in which you start the free fall time is a bit shorter but the climbing time is great with Grand Canyon looking spectacular. Be aware that the parachute ride down will make you a bit wheezy if you are prone to sea sickness since every turn causes you to be on a pendulum. It was a beautiful, peaceful walk with our dog, and we only encountered a few bikers, walkers, and skateboarders along the way. The paved path is also perfect for biking. While it felt a bit lonely at times, it was a truly scenic and relaxing way to spend the evening!
