Oxtail
Dina K.

Ordered take out here for the first time. Portions are enormous- this fed two of us for a handful of days. We ordered the oxtail and the curry chicken. The curry chicken was a 10/10, super flavorful, well cooked, absolutely perfect. Oxtail was yummy, large portion, although it was on the sweeter side for my liking. Both came with rice & peas, veg and plantains, all which were very good. Very happy with this place and will order again!

Was in the mood Jamaican food. Got take out here. Got the beef stew with rice and peas, cabbage and plantains combo. Originally wanted the ox tail. Saw a sign that the beef stew is back or something something. It didn't disappoint. Had a good 20 min nap after lunch. Will be back. Parking can be trouble some.

Almost forgot to write my review. Let me preface this by saying that I am Married to a Jamaican woman, so my critic of Caribbean food can be severe.....no need in this case. This was some of the best restaurant oxtail I have had in a loooooooong time. So so so many misses, that it was a pure joy to find somewhere that didn't sell some "watered down," "Americanized" version of oxtail for the sake of making it appealing to more people. It was flavorful, rich & heavy. I needed a nap after finishing it. So worth it! I have FINALLY found my go to spot for when my Wife doesn't feel like making it.

Food for days!!

Yard Pot is a small no fuss Jamaican helmed restaurant in Linden that pumps out a lot of your typical Caribbean dishes. Standouts are their Curry Goat, Brown Stewed Chicken, Jerk Chicken and of course they have fantastic Oxtails. The cowfoot soup will speak to your soul in all the ways that count!! In addition, the also serve a variety of ginormous and freshly made patties that you can tell are not your average mass produced kind! Some of the best I've ever had!! Another thing to note is that their portions are ridiculous! Spend about 40 bucks and you'll literally eat for 3 days!!! The staff is quite friendly as well so if you're in the area make sure to stop on by and give them a try. It's definitely worth it!! Cheers to all!!

This place is one of the only Jamaican food places in the area. The manager, I believe it is, is really nice everytime I come in. The food is pretty good and it is pretty affordable. There is only street parking and I usually find something in front. The place is always clean and put together. I ordered the stew chicken for a friend of mine. The food is made early and they put it in steel, individual serving pots so they can grab and go. The two issues I have are they are terrible with answering the phone and the line is always long with only 1 or 2 people behind the counter.

I am on the hunt for amazing oxtails! These are by far the best I had in a long time. The service is cool, the young lady is welcoming. The ambiance soft and homey. Oxtail is one of my favorite dish and everyone can't make it. This is good, the sauce is dark and savory. The oxy was easy to eat and not all chewy and she was generous as it was the ending of the day. I rate this place 4 stars and I am from NYC..

They've been open roughly 6 months, so I do not feel like I've been missing out for too long. It was a sunny Saturday afternoon, and thankfully not a long wait. I ordered the curry chicken w/cabbage and rice & peas. The curry was flavorful and finger-licking good, falling off of the bone; although some of my peas were rock hard but other than that the rice & peas were delicious, too. The cabbage was sooo good!!! I could have used a tad more, but I chocked that up to personal preference - i LOVE cabbage! I guess I was so mesmerized by the inviting aroma that I forgot to take a picture of my food (which usually never happens), but take my word... the container was empty. The menu has plenty to offer and I am looking forward to trying the jerk chicken next time - which is made on the grill (not the oven). I also loved the decor and art on the walls. Great food and the service is what won me over completely. While waiting for my order, I met the cook and chatted with the owner, Maxine, who is extremely personable and polite. I could have talked to her about quality food and quality customer service all day. It's nice to converse with owners of establishments who just 'get it'. The professionalism here is on point. And make no mistake about it, she reads all reviews and takes all feedback into consideration. There's also a very nice outdoor space with seating and live music. I will definitely be back! 5 stars earned and well-deserved!

I've had the curry goat roti, curry chicken, jerk chicken and she let me try the red pea soup and it was ALL AMAZING. Very authentic tasting West Indian food unlike other places that water it down for Americans. there isn't really any good place to get spicy good Caribbean food in town so this is perfect. The restarant is bright, colourful and clean and cozy. There's good seating here also for a big family. Definitely my go to spot when I'm in need of some good hearty food.

I stood there for 5 minutes before a lady from the back waved as if she'll be out shortly . After standing there 15 more minutes, I tapped the bell on the counter . She came out a few minutes later . I ordered my usual which is curry chicken ,rice and plantains. As I waited, waited and waited I noticed how hot is was in the restaurant. I began to perspire . Clearly there weren't any AC on. A customer arrived and based on his conversation with a gentlemen that came in later ( appear to be one of the owners) he's a regular. He asked for some cake and the employee/ owner told him they were out of cake. The customer proceeded to tell him he comes in every week and there's never any cake. The employee/owner said he'd get it next time . He seemed very nonchalant about the fact his customer is loyal and he never makes sure the cake is available. Keep in mind I'm still waiting on my food . It's been over 30 minutes waiting in this hot box. After about an hour wait the food was finally ready . No one never said how long it would be. Nor did anyone apologize for the wait or offer any drinks since it was actually hotter inside than outside. The food was packed tightly in a black tray with a clear lid. It was so packed I had to eat it over a big towel in my hotel room to prevent spillage on the bed. After the long hot wait, without any water , the food was bland. I didn't realize that salad had been squeezed inside the plate as well. I will never return . It's too hot there and the wait is too long . Especially since I was the only person in line . I gave them 2 stars because I was given a sufficient amount of food. Although I really think the plate was too small for that much food.

It was easy to find parking nearby on the street, we walked in and were immediately sat down. Service was great throughout the meal. The server did speak primarily to us in Creole. I can see how that may not work for someone who is not Haitian. Maybe having someone who did speak a mix. However, he was very nice and the food came out fast and was delish. Shared a griot fritay to start and it was definitely tasty and portion was good. For entree I had the legume with Beef with black rice. Tasty, spicy, and very authentic tasting. I can say they stay true to the flavors and don't water them down. The drink was ehh. I did not taste much liquor in the creole punch. Not worth it in my opinion. In terms of ambiance, I wish better music was playing. The set up was cool. Nothing amazing. If I was in the area again, I would come back.
