From their evaluator that met with my Insurance appraiser, they worked together as if they worked on the same team. To Judy who was like having a best friend in the business, to the crew that showed up bright and early and had my roof completed and all cleaned up in a matter of hours. In today's times, its nice to see a company, and their people who care. M & J operated like a well oiled machine from start to finish. I highly recommend them. Ray P. Erial, NJ

Sloppy Work & Roof Slow Leaked for a Year…read more I've included photos to show just how messy their work was. They left the green adhesive from the TPO flat roof they installed strung all over the place as well as a large spot in the driveway that when we spoke with the owner, Mike, about he just mentioned a few solvents for us to try instead of coming back and cleaning it up properly. The metal and caulk process they used along the edge is hideous and when we let him know after the install that we weren't happy with it he just added more messy caulk and metal. This was not at all smooth-edged like the older one they replaced. At that point we just didn't want to deal with them anymore and let the issue go. Unfortunately a year later we had leaking & ceiling damage inside the room below that roof and realized that it had been slowly leaking for that whole year and we'd only realized it after 2 flash flood storms in a row. They sent someone out who couldn't find the leak so we had to use our thermal camera to figure out where it was coming from and indeed it was from where they had cut the flashing to lay the TPO underneath the edge and left it completely exposed, wood was visible. They finally fixed that but we were never able to speak to Mike again because he would not return our calls even though we left voicemails and messages with his dispatchers. There is also a dip in the flat roof that collects water and is already stained from the sitting water. This roof is a complete mess. We have had a miserable experience with M&J and would never allow them to do any work of any kind on our home again which is why we had a friend repair the inside ceiling damage. Most of our family and friends own their homes and a few are looking to buy currently and we have made sure and will make sure that none of them ever use M&J for any of the services they offer.

Ken Morton & Sons - New roof, so happy!

Ken Morton & Sons

Had some water spots and streaks appear out of nowhere in my 2nd-floor ceiling. Called Emmons and…read moreanother local roofing company, Ken Morton & Sons. Josh from Emmons came out while I was away and told my wife that he found the leak. He also said that our dimensional shingle roof was not installed properly 18 years ago when the house was built, which was why the roof was leaking, and that a new roof would cost $4K. Upon returning from my business trip, I called Josh and asked him to come back out, which he did. I asked him to explain how the roof wasn't initially installed correctly and he went on to say that because they didn't cut any of the shingles, the edges of the shingles were causing a channel every other row for water to flow. He continued, stating that Emmons starts the first row with a full shingle, the second with a 2/3 shingle and the third with a 1/3 shingle and repeat that pattern. If this is the case, then they'd be creating more channels for water to flow, but I digress. What a bunch of BS. Then Josh said it would cost $4K to replace only the front slope of the roof over the main structure - not the main structure's rear slope or both slopes over the garage. I asked why he would suggest replacing only a portion of the roof when it was not properly installed in the first place and also questioned what the aesthetics would look like. He (amazingly) agreed and said he would measure/remeasure all roofing surfaces and provide another price, which came to $16K. BTW, while on the roof he was stomping around like an elephant because I could easily hear him from the first floor. Was he trying to damage it? Ken Morton & Sons also came out while I was away. They inspected the attic but couldn't find a leak. What they did find was flexible ductwork that appeared to be leaking condensation, so they told my wife they quickly repositioned and adjusted it to stop the leak. However, I was not convinced that that was the cause after speaking with Josh at Emmons so I asked Ken to come out and inspect my roof from above. One of his guys came out, inspected the roof and said there was no indication of any leaking. Ken called me afterwards and said that he'd love to replace my roof but the ductwork was the cause of my ceiling stains - not the roof. Since then, which has been ~6 months, and after more than one gale force windy and rainy storms no additional stains have appeared in our ceiling. In summary, Josh from Emmons is the owner's daughter's boyfriend who looked and sounded like he never stepped foot on a roof before his future father-in-law give him the job. He just tried baffling me with his BS and, worse, he lied about finding a leak and tried to sell us, first, a partial roof replacement and then a full roof replacement - both of which we didn't need. Josh just wanted to make a sale. He obviously thinks he smarter than John Q. Public and has no interest in wanting to help people. Therefore, please consider Ken Morton & Sons if you have a roofing need.

Less than two years later, the roof developed a leak. I contacted the company and gave them multiple opportunities to honor the warranty. They made several promises to return and fix the issue, including explanations for delays, but the leak remained unresolved. Eventually, my calls and messages stopped receiving responses altogether. Because the leak was continuing and risking further damage to my home, I had to hire another contractor to complete the repair at an additional cost of $550 out of pocket. My experience was disappointing not because problems can never happen--repairs sometimes fail--but because I was unable to get the company to stand behind its warranty or communicate reliably once issues arose. I encourage anyone considering this company to ask detailed questions about how warranty claims are handled and to keep thorough documentation of all communications and agreements.
