Searching for a bar where they sell Tapas menus in the Eixample area where we wanted to go to a bar later on, we found Xoso to be the most welcoming. As a tourist not being able to speak Spanish, I wanted to avoid to order each tapas dish seperately.
The card was in English and Spanish and the waiter spoke a great English to serve us - he was even very funny and made us feel comfortable. We (two people) were not up to a fancy, upscale restaurant - instead we were up to some authentic Spanish atmosphere. Indeed, many locals got to that place. A TV with football was running, people watched it, but it was not disturbing and attracting all the attention as it would be in a sports bar. At the table next to us, some middle-aged guy had his evening coffee and watched the game and before we left, some security people apparently met there before their shift.
The quality of the food was really good and the price-performance ratio was even more so. For 19 € per person, we got five plates of tapas and a full bottle of wine, opened in front of us. From that I guessed, that they do a big effort in serving the best quality for that price. Others with similar offers including wine serve it in a carafe which means they could put whatever wine in there as you don't see the label. Well, not so at Xoso what I liked a lot about it.
It was already around 24 o'clock and either the other restaurants around already closed their kitchen or they were that booked out that we did not even dare to ask for a seat.
This place is awesome for spontaneous tourists, who want a good quality meal at a decent price in an authentic Spanish tapas restaurant. read more
