I was not able to clearly see the last few steps and feel down them landing on my hands and knees. I suffered severe abrasions to my knees and hands. Beware if your tour is at night. The staff provided basic first aid. when I contacted the management they referred me to the board president. It took over a week for him to contact me back.

The Latimer House is located in Downtown Wilmington. Guided tours run on the hour and if you arrive…read moreearlier you can sit in the courtyard. This was my favorite of the three houses. It shows how the upper class lived with opulence. The house is not handicap accessible as the it was built in the 1852. The house was built by Zebulon Latimer and has three stories with a basement although not all areas are on the tour. The house is symmetrical as there are the same number of windows on each side. Three generations of the Latimers lived in the house before it became a museum and where the Cape Fear Historical Society is based. The iron water fountain in the garden used to be in a park in the middle of the road. The house has 14 rooms around 600 original items such as furniture, dishes, sculptures in fantastic shape as they had never been taken out of the shipping containers. The family tree was unique on the wall. You can even see where the original carpet was worn away. The house has a Victorian style decor with the marble fireplace, velvet curtains, and the intricate chandeliers. The walls in the foyer are painted to look like wallpaper. I enjoyed seeing all the photos. My docent was knowledgeable and friendly. She provided the stories of who lived in the house with empathy as some of the stories are sad. I highly recommend taking a tour of the Latimer House.

For the most part, I was set on the go karts and only the go karts. The track is fairly small and the go karts are SLOW, at least to my standards (and potentially other adults). Overall this place is more for kids, even though that's kind of obvious. Inside was bigger than I expected. Plenty of various and new games, which was a plus to see. A lot of ticket games and prizes. The back area towards the bathrooms gave off a bit of an eerie abandoned park vibe - mainly because it was only a couple of games that were on and mostly looked like spots to put their "junk" per se (that wasn't in use). Prices weren't bad, the staff that I came across were fairly nice. Would recommend for families opposed to an adult game night.

The grounds are beautiful, peaceful, and rich with history. Even though only some of the flowers are blooming right now, there is still plenty to enjoy--towering live oaks draped in Spanish moss, winding paths, ponds, sculptures, and the feeling that you've stepped back into old Wilmington. The famous Airlie Oak and the historic chapel make it feel more like wandering through a living postcard than just another garden. Airlie dates back to the late 1800s and was created by Sarah and Pembroke Jones before becoming a public garden preserved for future generations. The gardens are well kept, easy to stroll through, and especially lovely this time of year with the Azalea Festival season beginning. It is the kind of place where you slow down, take a deep breath, and remember that nature did landscaping long before homeowners associations started issuing warning letters. The one drawback--and for us older folks it is a real one--is that there simply are not enough restrooms spread throughout the grounds. With so much walking involved, having a few more bathrooms around the gardens would make a tremendous difference and would make the experience more comfortable for seniors and families. Overall: 4 out of 5 stars. A beautiful, historic Wilmington treasure that is absolutely worth visiting, especially in the spring--just be sure to make a restroom stop before setting out on the trails.

The Wrightsville Beach Museum of History is the perfect place to go back in time and learn of the…read morehistory of the beach town. The museum is located inside Meyers Cottage. The cottage is very basic and has thin walls. I was warmly greeted when I arrived and given a guided tour through the museum. The replica of Wrightsville Beach is what you first see when you enter and the closer you get you notice the fine details of the display down to the movie screen outside a hotel. I didn't know trolley was the original way to get to Wrightsville Beach or that there was a hospital just for babies. The walls contain endless photos and business signs. Fire destroyed some buildings and hurricanes damaged others. Outside of the museum is some of trolley tracks out front at the entrance. If you are in the area, make sure to stop at this museum.
