    Xcelerator testing November 2023
    Nathan C.

I just got a ride to xcelerator this weekend, after they reopen 2 weeks ago. Also, I remember riding the same attraction with my family back in 2009. It's my favorite fast ride from Knott's Berry Farm.

It's the fastest coaster in Orange County.....0-80+ in under 3 seconds!!
    Eric S.

GONE IN 60 SEC. This coaster is both fast and furious, but it's got no Nicolas Cage (or Vin Diesel, for that matter). ((sidenote : I'm convinced only sociopaths like me stand in a 1.5hr line for a ride that's over in less than a minute)) Anywho, Knotts' speediest coaster is also its tallest, with the crest of the 'top hat' element peaking at 205ft. In many ways, this Intamin accelerator coaster is a toned-down version of Top Thrill Dragster with a few overbanked curves thrown in. At only 2,202ft in length, it's a much shorter ride duration than most other coasters but Xcelerator makes it count. At a cost of $13M, this attraction replaced the hilariously broken and ill-fated Windjammer Surf Racers (which operated a grand total of three seasons before getting yanked).  The resulting plot of land was perfectly suited for this ride that lasts a mere minute long but delivers quite a rush. Here's how it works: a hydraulically powered winch attaches itself to the underside of the 20-rider train. The twin motor system generates up to 11,000HP (that's 7,800kW each, practically a goddamn jiggawatt) in order to prepare for launch. And you thought your electrical bill was expensive!?! Utilizing the same technology as aircraft carriers, the train gets catapulted from 0 to 82mph in 2.3 seconds, attaining a peak acceleration of 52.3ft/s^2 (compare this with TTD's 46.3ft/s^2). If you've yet to experience this burst of sudden acceleration on a coaster, then you're in for one hell of an eye-opening experience. A 'christmas tree' lighting array acts as a visual countdown as the station crew goes through the pre-launch preparations. When that bitch turns from red-to-yellow-to-green, you're boosted to the ride's max speed and climb vertically towards the apex. It's a nice view from the top to be sure, but don't enjoy the scenery too much because 40 seconds later you'll be hitting the magnetic brake run. Xcelerator acts like a line of uncut cocaine to Dragster's methamphetamine injection. One is more intense than the other but both get the adrenaline pumping in a BIG way. And as with TTD at Cedar Point, the front row seat is for thrill ride junkies only; casual riders might p*ss themselves. Fortunately I was able to squeeze this exhilarating coaster into my day at the park, because Xcelerator is a MUST RIDE when visiting Knotts Berry Farm. Eric S's KBF coaster ranking : 2nd out of 8!

Yes this ride is fast! At launching speed of 0-82 MPH in an easy 2.3 seconds and then with an immediate straight up twist, the Xcelerator is sure to knock your rocks off, but unfortunately it is a short lived ride at only just over a minute in duration. That twin hydraulic catapult motor sure does a number on the G-Forces your body will experience on this ride, especially open take off, but after the first drop, the rest is a blur and the next thing you know, the ride is over. I was like, "say what," it's over and after I stood in line for an hour. I wish the ride lasted at least two minutes. Don't get me wrong, the rise was a blast, but I do not think I would stand for an hour next time for this one; perhaps a half an hour. In the end, a quick burst of fun, for a minute of your life.

    The peak.
    Nina Z.

Fun fact: the initial burst of speak goes to 80 mph within 2-3 seconds. Different and quite intimidating. The sheer height of the loop made me almost want to turn back and get out of line. There are separate lines for the front cart (longer wait) and the following carts (shorter wait). While exhilarating, I can't imagine waiting in line here during the summer since it would be way too hot and there's no shade while waiting in line. There's a vending machine with drinks strategically placed to the side of the line. Also, I agree with Yelper Chuck K. in that the entrance is unnecessarily difficult to find (between the Johnny Rockets and restrooms). I'll stick with Montezooma's Revenge, which has a similar concept, a faster turnover, and is an old time favorite.

Riders board ore cars and are taken on a winding semi dark ride through a stylized 19th century gold mine. The ride is located in the Ghost Town section at Knotts Berry Farm. The mountain structure that houses the ride is seven stories tall! It's built with steel and elaborate rock work. During the ride, you pass through the tunnels, caverns, underground lakes, bubbling steam pots, geysers, and even ornate cave formations! One of the most memorable features of the ride is the hole scene set in a large chamber! You'll see dozens of animatronic miners hard at work trying to strike it rich! In 2014, this ride did go through a refurbishment. The renovation included new animatronics, enhanced lighting, sound systems, special effects, and new paint! This is such a great family ride. It's not too scary, but there are some beautiful scenes. It's a slow ride and one of the best rides at Knotts Berry farm!

This ride is a dark ride/set piece ride that takes you back into the mines back in the day. It's Kott's first ride opened in the 1960s so some of the animatronics look a bit haunting/aged, but it's still a fun and neat time all around. It's cool that you can look so deep into caverns, see the inside lakes, pools of water, steam, and stalactites and stalagmites. In the 2010s some updates were made as well, so it's not all entirely aged. There's a cute musical light show in the water pools/cave formation rooms. Later on you also go outside of the cave and see out to the park. I love the little vultures. Nice and slow ride with lots to look at.

They were so excited to ride the Skyrider, it's a zip line across partial of the park. I highly definitely recommend this indoor playground. It's probably the best one in OC. We've gone to a lot the past years. This place has so much for your kids to do. Met the manager Terry and Sally. They are both amazing and friendly. Always there to answer your questions and needs. Our school Mabel Paine had a day of fundraising here also. UA loves to support and gives back to the community. Love a friendly oriented company. What's awesome is they now have a security here that I love since it's open. Security really nice. The indoor playground is pretty clean and well taken care of. Love the mascot Urbie. It was nice to have things more spread out where I didn't feel claustrophobic or trapped. Overall we had a great day here. We went on Memorial Day which I expected to be super crowded but it was manageable I have 2 kids under 10 and they were able to enjoy different aspects of the park. Here are my takeaways: Arrive early - that's the best way to get seats and get a few rides in before it gets busy. People seem to respect seat saving. So have a couple towels that you can leave to hold a spot. Bring snacks - the lines were long to get food. Try to avoid busy times or else you will be waiting for a long time. Also get the daily dining plan. We got food every 90 minutes until lines got super long. (The dining plan also works at Knotts across the street.) Wear water socks or shoes to keep your feet safe and clean. The ground gets HOT. Plus you won't have to leave your shoes and risk them getting taken. Bring towels, they do not provide any there. I'd even bring an extra towel or 2 so that way you always have a dry towel if you want to towel off during the day. Be prepared for chilly water. It was manageable, especially on a hot day. But my kids were chilly walking from one place to the next. Come up with a system for your kids in case you get separated. It's easy to get out of view, especially when you have 2 or more kids doing different things. Tell them where to go (or to stay put) if they can't find you, and where you will be. Put your kids in bright clothing so they stand out and are easy to spot. You can bring blankets and umbrellas to sit on the grass if you'd like. Lines will get super long as the day progresses. Get there early, ride as much as you can, then chill for the rest of the day. You have to be able to walk up a lot of stairs if you want to do the slides.

Use a credit card to book your room, so you can use their quick check in line. Either way, make sure you take the exact card you use to book for checking in. Before you go, buy the discounted dining deal. You can only buy it in advance, and the food and drinks are pretty pricey, so you will spend $$$. I also suggest attaching your credit card to your wristband for convenience. We really enjoyed the pizza place onsite. We checked in on a Sunday and it was a bit crowded, but we managed to do it all in three hours. The kids loved the bunk bed, and my only complaint about our room is that the tub faucet leaked. The next day, we packed a bag with a change of clothes that we fit into a small locker for $12, and went back into the waterpark for a couple more hours. I recommend packing travel toiletries for a quick shower before leaving. They have plenty of showers, changing rooms, and a swimsuit dryer, but no toiletries in the waterpark bathrooms. Waterpark towels are provided and must be checked out and in or you'll be charged, so don't lose them. There's a water bottle refill station in the waterpark near the bathrooms. We didn't try many of the activities offered except for the arcade that offered packages starting at $35. Lastly, be sure to pay for parking before you leave. That was also $35. All in all, we got a deal on the room but spent more on food, drinks, games, and parking combined. My kids are 5 and 10, and they were able to go on just about everything that was open. One day was plenty of time if you don't plan on doing all of the activities.
