They disconnected our electricity while we were at work without any notice whatsoever and we had already paid the bill, had the statement and everything. And then when my girlfriend called to ask to about it and informed the representative that this was urgent and had to be figured out, the representative told her to "not yell at her" and hung up. I did call Xcel Energy directly "first". Since I was not satisfied with the response, I am writing a Yelp regarding the Home Energy Report that they send out on a quarterly basis. Over the course of 40 years I have owned 4 homes in the Twin Cities. I am the only one that has lived in these 4 homes. With the exception of the the one that I am living in now, I have ALWAYS received a below usage energy comparison to the nearby homes and similar nearby homes except for the home I am living in now. I am almost doubled the energy use living in this home as compared to other. This makes no sense because this is the newest, smallest home I have ever owned AND the central air is new, appliances are new, and furnace is 7 years old. This was not the case in my other homes. The only difference is that I live in a townhome and share a wall with my neighbor. I keep my heat at 65-67 in the winter and use my air sporadically in the summer. When I called Xcel to get clarification, the girl told me that she would be happy to remove my name from receiving these reports. I never asked for that. I wanted an explanation which she struggled to give me. She put me on hold and then told me that they really don't look much at the homes nearby and that it all depends on how many people I have living in the home. She absolutely did not listen to a word I said. I hope I'm not paying for my neighbors utilities because that is the only explanation I have for this. read more

I've lived here for over 2 years and my power goes out every 2 months randomly. I don't get it.

My last bill was substantially larger than it was supposed to be. When I called customer service to ask what happened, I was told the meter was read incorrectly and that was the reason I was over billed. She claimed the problem was corrected on the next bill but Im not seeing any sign my account was credited for the previous over billing. I could not get a word in as the customer service rep kept interrupting me. I feel like they have been over billing me for months. I am switching providers immediately. Beware of some Xcel Home Service vendors. We have the Xcel home service plan. Worked out great the few times we used it over the past several years. Used it recently to get a dishwasher problem repaired. Had a friend who came over to look at something else not under the plan, and asked if he would take a quick look at my dishwasher... my friend owns a company that repairs both commercial and home equipment and appliances for nearly 40 years. He diagnosed the problem. But since I had this Xcel service plan, I thanked him and we both agreed I should use the plan rather than pay for the parts and owe my friend some more favors :) ... The person from the Xcel contractor showed up. After questioning him on his experience while he worked, he said he had 15+ years experience repairing appliances for a manufacturer. He Diagnosed the problem. Said he would have order the part. The service company he worked for called later and stated the part would take a few weeks. He wasn't clear on what the part was - other than stating it was a part he described which I asked my friend about and my friend stated the name the repairman claimed he ordered was nonsense. If this repairman had the experience he claimed he would have given the name of the correct part. No matter. Fine. I waited. 3 weeks passed and the service company said the repairman would come back out. The repairman showed up, and disassembled the part he described .he took the part out and brought it to his truck. (Have 16 video cameras on the property, one is aimed at the spot he parked his truck at).. the person came back in and relaxed the part he claimed with a "new" part. He talked a bit about personal life and and that he had a couple of nearly identical dishwashers in his garage and his next call was for an almost identical appliance. Same problem existed. Not only did the same problem exist. A part was missing which he said was fine (it was a $15.00 retaining clip which he "looked all over for" and it was gone. Hmm.. ok. When he left I looked under the unit and carefully scanned the area deep behind the appliance. I ran the unit, same problem existed. Except now there was water leaking from the bottom of the appliance. Luckily, you tube exists. And manuals are immune machine. (I'm an engineer so I'm pretty handy at repairing things if needed and I have the time) I ended up reseating the part he "replaced", and purchasing the retaining clip from a local vendor through my friend, who found out the part the Xcel contract repairman claimed it took 3 weeks to obtain was / is a common part readily available and in stock at two distributors locally. On top of all this, I didn't get any receipt of what was done verifying a part replaced, and service performed. The last service I had done from Xcel - 3 calls in 5 years, including a call on this very dishwasher by a different service company two years ago for a different issue, I've received a receipt for each instance. Luckily I have video (and I saved if) of the whole episode for proof this event happened! I complained to Xcel on an online form. No reply. My comment here is BEWARE of the honesty and competence of this program and watch the person who is repairing the appliance very carefully. My trust is breached and I'm looking at the competition, Centerpoint Home Service Plus. They aren't perfect, but perhaps they get their service people better! (And I still haven't got a reply from Xcel and it's been weeks) I'm going to prospect Centerpoint's plan, and I'm buying the proper parts I need from my friend and replacing them myself. read more

OMG this company is so unbelievably irresponsible! They have left is us without power SEVENTEEN times this year alone. Left our entire community without power again. They say they don't know what their problem is - well here's a brilliant idea: FIGURE IT OUT!!!! FIX IT!!! We have to drive up and down a treacherous mountain several times today to check on our dogs and have been without power for nearly 24 hours. Addendum to the previous review. I paid, they even validated payment and accepted. Then they sat on that for around 8 days to 10 days. An old bill came through and took the money. So now not only was the bill not going to be paid, my overdraft is an additional $29.00. I called them with a too bad and make sure money is in the account. also, they informed me they can sit on taking the money out till whenever. So now knowing I don't have the money, they run it through again for another $29.00 for a grand of $58.00. Xcel said well we don't charge an overdraft fee. Still, these fees are paid and they could have had their money if they would have taken the money when it was vetted. Living on less than $350 a month I don't have extra money to toss away $58 to try to pay them again. Now I am even further away from paying. Such a huge lack of empathy for your customer who did everything to pay even though you could have cared less. read more

My room mates were told we could not pay our overdue bill separately on Thursday 4/21/16. We are college students and nobody had the large sum of money in their account to pay the entire bill at one time. The next day Friday 4/22/16 we call and they tell us we can pay separately and if we pay by 10:30 am we will have our power back. We all pay by 10AM. Excel tells us we have to wait until Monday to get our power back on because we have to wait a business day because they are too busy to turn on our power and it goes in order of calls received. Well Excel, if you would have trained your employees well enough to know that YES, YOU DO IN FACT TAKE SEPARATE FORMS OF PAYMENT, we would have had our power today like we were supposed to and not sit through a cold rainy weekend in the dark. It took you literally one second to turn off our power, WTF is so hard about turning it back on. read more

Horrible company. Wish we had some option to go to another provider. Over the last few years we've had several outages for no real reason, no bad weather, winds just a normal day. We check the updates and estimates for the outage and it never changes until all of a sudden the estimated time is about here then it changes to another 2-3 hours. Beat part is the last 2-3 outages the crew hasn't showed up to the transformer right my residents until after the original estimated time. We have cpaps and can not sleep without them. They directly effect our health and more than inconvenience us. This is a money hungry company that can honestly careless about the well being of they're customers. I truly wish I had another option. Garbage customer service. I was billed for the new tenant's energy use in an apartment I had previously moved out of. It's understandably frustrating being charged for someone else's utility bill. They refused to help me find a workaround, or to credit the bill, or to assign the charges to the new tenant (that they had name and account of and record of them living in the same apartment across the time of my bill) all because I hadn't called and given them notice ahead of time. Xcel Energy is trying to collect money from me for a period of time during which I was not the property owner. I sold the property in May of 2012. They are trying to charge me during the period of time from May 2012 - Jan 2013. Additionally they have threatened to send my account to a collection agency. They are crooks! read more

Apparently a possible gas leak is not of any concern to Xcel Energy. My husband called to report that we are smelling gas on the outside of the house, likely coming from the hose from our dryer. He was told someone would be out to our house in an hour. It's been over an hour and 40 minutes and I'm still waiting. I'm at home with our two dogs (and am 8 months pregnant) waiting in our backyard to learn if the house is safe or not. Called Xcel myself and was told they could not give me an ETA and could not call the tech to even find out where he/she is and where we are on their list. Then she told me if I feel it's an emergency to call 911. I'm sorry but I don't know anything about gas leaks, which is why I'm calling them. How am I supposed to know what qualifies as a true emergency?? This is unacceptable customer service. At a minimum they should tell you where you are on their list so that customers have some idea of when they're going to get help. Thankfully it's not winter yet, but seriously, I shouldn't have to wait like this to get help. read more

I am not at all impressed with this company. Last year, My husband called to cancel their services due to moving out, moved into the new apartment and changed the mailing address. They sent a maintenance man to come check out the place and the pipes on 2 different occasion, which on both occasions told them we were discontinuing our service. The man told us there was a leak and he couldn't turn it back on and we said that was ok bc we weren't needing the services anymore since we were moving in a few days. Without our knowledge, this company kept billing us and even though they kept getting the mail back our bill kept getting higher and higher. We didn't get our bill for a whole seven months and it is nearly $400!! Not only are they charging us but they also sent us to collections! We call them and try to get it resolved and what do they do? They tell us they have NO record of us calling, BUT WE DID! We ask if they can talk to the maintenance man we talked to saying we wanted it shut off as our witness and they said no. after arguing with them for quite some time saying that we always payed our bills so when the bills keep getting sent back shouldn't that be a red flag? They were not helpful at ALL and the gentleman I spoke to was rude and even RAISED HIS VOICE AT ME and was not understanding AT ALL! We did pay but we will NEVER be using this company again. They are crooks and are not trust worthy AT ALL! Very unsatisfied customer. read more
