There is no ride that compares to X2. It is an experience that's hard to describe. The closest thing I can thing of is being tossed around in a washer or dryer. Absolutely not. If you're going to ride this, I want you to tighten all the restraints and when the ride operator comes by to check, I want you to tell them to push it down more so you're unable to move. This ended my long day of back to back to back thrill rides, on a bad note. I was in the seat, they had to reset my restraints and it was looser and I said nothing about it because my glasses were in my jacket pocket and I was concerned about those getting smashed by the constraints. Before I boarded this ride, the train came into the station and the lady that was sitting in the seat I was about to get into, looked at me dead in the eye and said, "It's bad." I didn't even ask her!!?? I will say, her and I were definitely over 30 years old (maybe 40), so this is for my ladies of the 80's; just don't. You're not missing anything, in fact you're gaining your youth back just waiting for your party at the exit. Once on the ride it started off scary then went immediately into "I'm going down on this plane and going to die "-mode. My main complaint was the back of my head was slamming into the head rest and I left saying, "I have CTE I just know it," and it put me in a mood. The other attractions in the park, I experienced the head banging but it was the sides of my head not the back. If you're going to ride this ride save it for later. I will say, the wait time stated it was 90 minutes, but we only waited 45 minutes, at most, probably shorter and this was on a Saturday in January. read more

By far, this is the best thrill ride in Six Flags Magic Mountain. I highly recommend flash pss thougj. The line moves extremely slow and it always seems like they only have 1 car running. Everyone raves about X2 and I can see why because the ride is truly like no other, but I don't know if it delivered expectations for me. X2 is a unique ride because, on top of it being a roller coaster, it's not even 4D -- it's 5D. The 360-degree rotating seats make it similar to The Joker at Over Texas and Great Adventure, but The Joker isn't anything intense. X2 goes over 200 feet in the air and the first drop is so intense that you're literally like WTFFFFF. Oh did I forget the speeds too? It's 76 mph and because it's a 5D ride, you don't know if you're gonna flip over during that drop -- every aspect of the ride is truly unpredictable. I would say while it is a unique ride, I thought the ride was a little painful at times because you really don't know what's gonna happen to you and you're so focused on dangling around that the thrill of the ride isn't experienced as much. You're seats are on "wings" so you're not even on the track which make it another cool aspect that was a plus for me. X2 is truly unique to Six Flags Magic Mountain though, and I think any coaster-lover should still try this ride out nevertheless. The ride is located at the pretty back-end of the park and you have to walk through this bridge to get there so it may be a bit of a walk, but it's worth it and this is one of those rides that are kinda like "you have to check it out" because there's nowhere else in the world where you'll get this kind of experience. read more

Now, looking at this ride along. It looks outstanding. I mean, just LOOK AT IT. A near vertical drop, seat rotations, MASSIVE inversions, AND it's HUGE. This thing looks like it was not created by man. Well, if you pay attention to the coaster community. X2 has a reputation, and it's a GOOD reputation. Not only is this coaster absolutely amazing, but it's one of the BEST coasters in the WORLD! I'm NOT kidding. Ever since it opened in 2001, X2 has always been widely considered being one of the best coasters ever made. As well as a historic coaster as well since this was the first 4D Coaster ever built and the last coaster Arrow Dynamics made. So we're riding history! And history is sure amazing!!!! So yeah, let's get into why this coaster is so good! After getting into the restraints and hearing "Is everybody in?" "The ceremony is about to begin" and "X2" from your speakers (warning, this may take a while). We leave the station and head to the lift hill. While on the prelift, we listen to Frank Sinatra's "It had to be you." We then flip upside down from the seat rotations (YES! THIS RIDE GOES UPSIDE DOWN BEFORE YOU EVEN HIT THE LIFTHILL.) You then begin to rise as you're now facing the WHOLE park. During this time, you listen to "Enter Sandman" from Metalica (Awesome song btw) as well as some quotes from the Matrics. The anticipation continues to builds up as you're now in your seats getting nervous since you have NO idea when the drop is gonna hit. We then flip once again at the top before hearing Aerosmith's "Love in an Elevator" before hitting the first drop. And this has got to be the best drop EVER made. I'm not kidding. Not only is it near vertical, but your seat does a FLIP while you drop! All you can think is "HOLY CRAP. THAT WAS NUTS" Seriously, the drop alone makes this a top 10 coaster. But don't worry, the fun isn't over! We then hit the first raven turn, this is awesome since we fly and FLIP right through it which provides ALOT of sick forces. We then drop down and head into an inverse airtime hill (and flip through that) before turning right over the station. This gives us a breather to recall what just happened. But don't worry, we gain all of our speed as we drop down into a corkscrew-like turn (I say like since it's it's not actually one). We also flip during this so that's awesome :). Anyways, we the drop down next to a pair of flamethrowers (Which may or may not work) as we then head into another raven turn which is just flat out INCREDIBLE! At this point we are screaming "OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD YES YES YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!" We then get one last flip before rising into the brake run where we cannot help but take a deep breath and start clapping as.... well... that was truly insane. X2 really is one of the best coasters ever. Sure it may not be the longest coaster out there, but due to the fact that it's so insane and demented. It doesn't need to be a long ride. Now, I once considered this to be my favorite coaster ever and that most people call it the best ride at Magic Mountain. But I also LOVE Twisted Colossus in the same park, Steel Vengeance and Maverick at Cedar Point, and Voyage at Holiday World. So while this absolutely can be my #1 coaster, it has some competition. But in the end, all of them are prefect rides that go back at forth on my list. Unfortunately, not all of the effects work 24/7 which makes the experience slightly worse, but it's not enough to stop this from being an incredible ride. You absolutely HAVE to ride this when you're at Six Flags Magic Mountain. Even if the line gets really bad, it's WORTH the wait and it does live up to the hype. Also X2 does have a sweetspot time between 2-4 PM. That is usually when the line is the shortest since everyone will be at the back of the park or they will be eating lunch. So if you want to marathon it or get on within a short line, go between those times. But MAKE SURE YOU RIDE X2. Not only is it one of the best coasters ever, but it's a historic coaster and a rare type of coaster since it's the only 4D coaster that Arrow Dynamics built and it's the only X style coaster in America. So yeah, that should give you more than enough reasons to RIDE IT! It doesn't matter if the apocalypse is about to happen or how long the line is. RIDE X2 You will REGRET IT if you don't! This is the coaster of death. You will die on it. It is so deadly that the park has decided to NOT list this ride on their list of rides for "Holiday in the Park". Do NOT be fooled that this ride opened up as what the park claims, it really opened up back in 2002 under a different name and had seats that would get stuck upside down going back into the station. Those who were unlucky to ride got a fate worse than death. The only saving grace was you could come on Wednesdays and the ride would always be down for 'maintenance'. Also, the ride would also actually break down for months and even years at other times, so lots of people were spared this cruel fate. Sadly, the park decided to spend 10 million dollars to prevent this ride from breaking down. Sure, the seats don't get stuck upside down now, but at that point, your probably dead anyways. This means that here in this brand new decade, you will not be able to pray that this ride will break down for the entire day, thus sparing your life. It has been up and running all 3 days of this new decade so far, and the last 4 months of last decide, and never has broken down for the entire day. Even the staff is fooled at times, because they put a sign out at guest relations saying it was closed (with people breathing a sigh of relief) only to find out the ride was operating. Currently my favorite ride at Six Flags Magic Mountain. The engineers perfected the thrills and suspended drops, seating and twists and turns for this one. You'll be amazed at and scared at how your literally suspended and free falling to the ground with just a chest harness protecting you!! Love the ride, don't like the long lines with the "no loose articles" notice...the lines do take long because you need to rent a locker to put your things in. Worth the wait and worth the ride! X2 besides being one of the best coasters ever has quite a unique history to it and a kinda story to how it came about that I have always thought was pretty cool. X2 was built and designed by an awesome company known as Arrow Development who pretty much if you've been to a theme park anywhere it's a good chance you've ridden one of their coasters or rides as they've built several including Matterhorn Mountain @ Disneyland in Anaheim which was the first tubular steel coaster ever built. Wile Matterhorn was Arrow's first coaster X would be their last as they went bankrupt in the middle of construction for the ride as they had spent wayyy too much money developing this type of coaster technology to try to beat out the competition with the result of this the ride sat for about a year until it finally got finished only to have a ton of breakdowns due to design flaws and what not seeing that this type of technology hadn't been done before. So a few years later X becomes X2 which seemed like it was pretty much the end of what I would call a million breakdowns as the cars and some of the ride were redone to include music a new paint job and some other effects to help the ride run better. I've honestly lost count how many times I've ridden X & X2 but I can say that ever single time it's been a crazy insane experience as you pretty much have only the person sitting next to you as you pull out of the station in your rotating chair and head backwards up the lift hill into the sky of a incredible view of the Magic Mountain area where as you reach the top you feel a slight tease of a drop and then it's face first to the ground before your car starts doing a flip to even you out until the next part of this of this super thrilling ride until the end! The line for X2 can get really long I mean really long on busy days so try to seek it out first or come on a day where it won't be busy because you'll be chillin here for a bit! Once you reach the Station you can rent a locker to store your stuff in for $1 I highly recommend you get one or leave your stuff with your friend who's to chicken to ride because you will lose your items on this ride forshures! The worst amusement park ride experience of my life. Waited 3 hours and then they shut the ride down for half an hour...then despite the main ticket holders waiting 3 hours they they spent the next 30 minutes letting every fast pass user through even those just entering the line. X2 has a lot of hype around it but the ride line process is very unorganized and creates an unenjoyable visit for anybody waiting in line. The signage is not accurate, the communication of delays is not shared with those waiting in line, the team seems very unbothered. If you come to six flags skip this ride. We were on the line for about 40 minutes, when an announcement was made that the ride was shut down. We are really happy to know that Magic Mountain was on top of safety for us, but it was just disappointing that we lost the time in our day. X2 IS THE BEST RIDE AT SIX FLAGS. But the staff handled my issue very poorly this evening: Like most habitual amusement park goers, squeezing in that last ride before close is crucial. In my case I had enough time to get across the park to X2 with steady jogging and speed walking. Upon nearing the entrance of the line I noticed several people entering the exit instead. There was an employee standing at the entrance and asked if I made it in time and if I should enter through the exit as well. She responded "no you're fine, you have time, just go through the line." So continued to speed walk through the line, noticed another party followed behind me, and I saw other riders lingering near the lockers by the front of the ride. I made it! The attendant tells me we are closing, this is the last ride. So that's cool I made it but they had closed the gates on me just as I walked up. Their were tons of empty seats, let alone entire rows. I asked can you let me onto one of the empty seats? I clearly made it on time and there were still people getting seated and situating themselves. Not to mention there were people behind me in line that continued approaching the ride. The attendant signaled the controller to let me on. The controller clearly saw me waiting and just rudely told me "we're closed." When they clearly weren't. PURE LAZINESS. There were so many ways that this situation could be handled, and they chose to be lazy and rude doing it. Now you have a pissed off season pass holder, leaving with not one last thrill, but a feeling of dissatisfaction and failure. Six Flags made me run for nothing, and I don't run for much. I'm not the type to complain but please believe I took my salty ass to the information center so I could give them a piece of my mind as a paying customer who was treated poorly. Now upon telling my story to the info desk, I tried my best not to point fingers at anyone in particular. Was it the attendant at the entrance who told me I had time? Or the attendant at the front of the line who attempted to help me? Or maybe it was the controller, who acted like a complete asshole and basically X2'd me off the ride? *cough yea it was probably that rude ass.. But anyways, I just basically asked them to handle situations like that better. Put a closed sign or chain up the entrance. A simple barricade would suffice. Awesome Ride, Must Ride At Night For Full Effect! This ride rocks my socks. We always save it for the last ride of the night for the best grand finale for the day. This is one of my favorite rides at any park! You are seated in a ride that takes you backwards through the coated and spins you too! It is crazy your first time especially at night when the flames come shooting out of the flame thrower! This is a really fun ride and was a great new addition a few years ago. We came then when it was brand new too and the lines were insanely long. Now they are much more manageable! Be sure to try it in the day but mostly do it at night... It will rock your socks! PS: Note to Guests and Six Flags Staff... This is the only ride at the park where you are required to rent a locker for your park cup or backpack. The rest of the rides let you put your stuff in the bins and grab it when you get off... The lockers are annoying and unnecessary... We could't even get our stuff out of the locker 2 trips ago without calling staff to help... read more

I really do love this ride. I've ridden it about 3 times with no problems. There was one time, last week where I decided to sit in the back on the outside seat. My head was banging against the headrest and my legs were flailing a lot more than past experiences. I actually bruised my calf to where it hurt to walk for a few days. It's way too rough in the back. The seat that I recommend is towards the middle more, on the inside seat. It's still a crazy ride but it was easier to control my legs from slamming against the seat and my head from hitting the headrest too hard. Another complaint that I have is, of course, Six Flags makes you rent a locker on this ride when every other ride in the park lets you put your "loose articles" on a shelf or in a bin while you ride. It's only $1 to rent the locker in order to ride the ride but still. read more

X2 scares the crap out of me. Honestly. I know roller coaster enthusiasts come from all over the world to ride this roller coaster. From what I hear its one of only a few of it's kind in the world. It used to be called X and then a few years ago they closed it for a season, repainted it from the ugly bright colors it was and it came back branded X2 and was painted a nicer black, grey and red. It is hard to explain what the ride itself is like. You are strapped into a chair by your shoulders and your waist but to me it does not seem like a whole lot of restraints. You ascend the main lift on your back and then then as you go down the first HUGE drop your seat spins around back and forth. Its a complete trip. For someone like me who is not exactly fond of heights it is a scary ride...downright terrifying. The coaster itself tends to go down a whole lot...sometimes for mechanical issues, sometimes for wind but it seems to go down more than other attractions at Magic Mountain so it gets 4 stars instead of 5. It also tend to get a HUGE line on busier days. If you are going on a busy day either make this the first ride in the morning or the last ride at night. X2 is an amazing ride if you like feeling like you might just pee your pants. (In a good way of course.) :0) read more

WOW!!!!! I have never ridden a roller coaster where upon completion I was so ecstatic that I wanted to scream like "HOLY CRAP!!!". Not only was it the BEST ride at Magic Mountain, but it was the BEST roller coaster I've ever ridden in my life! Whoever designed this ride is a friggin genius and deserve some top honor recognition. Yes it's that good. Magic Mountain sells Fast Passes where you can take line cuts so you don't have to wait in these ridiculously long lines. Well, it's no good on this ride. If you want cuts, you need to pay extra for this one. What does that tell you? You start off on these chairs that are inverted so you are forced to ask God to spare your life. There are 2 chairs per side and the rail is in the middle. It starts off going backwards as you descend down a vertical wall and then you corkscrew where you have to lift your chin off your lap because of the intense G forces that are exerted. When you gain consciousness you somehow notice that you are now going forward (how did that happen?) then backwards again as flame throwers explode past your head. I would imagine this would be so dope at night but we never had a chance to re-ride this due to the long wait on all the rides here. The good news is that the line is pretty shaded so you are never really in the direct sun. This is how they came up with the name: Think of the best roller coaster you've ever been on. Now x 2. Overhyped... spend your time elsewhere! Got recommendations to visit this ride first when we got to Six Flags. The wait time was 50 mins, not terrible since I hear wait times can be much longer than this. The wait, however, wasn't worth it. The appeal of the ride is it rolls around in 360 circles as you're going, but that's just the reason the ride sorta stinks. The reason rides seem scary and exciting are that you can see where you're going... this ride you can't. Imagine being in a trash can and rolling down a hill, you know it's a wild ride but you can't really see a whole lot at the bottom of that trashcan. In my opinion there were way better rides to experience at Six Flags. Do the ride once and be done with it... X2 you are overhyped! read more

Waited 2 hours in line for this ride, and wow, was it worth it!! Six Flags has really out done themselves with this unique roller coaster that spins you 360 degrees, while on the ride!! The mechanics of the ride itself is just awesome because the chair can be customized to fit your body, so you know that not only is your body secured, but you know it will be a somewhat comfy (or as comfy as a ride chair can be) because it has adjusted to your body. The only thing I was not aware of is that they require you to purchase a locker for all of your items because you can't take a single thing on the ride with you, and there are no cubbies next to the cars like on all the other coasters in the park. However, even without knowing about the lockers, I was glad they were offered, AND they were fairly cheap too ($1/2hrs)! Highly recommend, and well worth the wait!! read more

This ride was awesome!!! This is my most favorite ride at Six Flag Magic Mountain :D To be honest, when I was reading the reviews here, I got pretty scared to go on this ride. But after riding it, I wanted to go on again! It wasn't that bad and traumatizing as i thought. I'm not gonna exaggerate my experience on this ride. I'm the type of person who loves roller coaster that flips me upside down and try to swings me out or does anything crazy. But I personally hate long and fast drops from roller coaster, it feels quite uncomfortable when the drop goes too fast that i can't even scream. This ride however, the drop actually wasn't that bad, it feels like you're gonna die only because of the seat it makes u lay flat with you are going head down to a vertical 90 degree drop. Also at time you feel like ur gonna get dropped out from the roller coaster XD This ride It was defiantly quite a different experience from most of the other traditional roller coaster, it's more the anxiety you read from most of the reviews here that gets you scared to go on this ride XD So if you are reading all the reviews right now, i advice you too stop reading, and just go on this ride right now! My head and/or shoulders would hurt by being thrown around on other rides, but even with the intensity of this ride, I felt fine afterwards. I don't think you will see this kind of coaster elsewhere. It is definitely one of a kind in the sense that each cart rotates 360 degrees, you're going down the drop backwards, you're facing straight downwards at times from acrophobia-inducing heights, and you have surround audio playing throughout. Put it all together and you're transported to the fifth dimension. Normally, I'm a huge fan of roller coasters, but the 360 degree vertical rotation was too much for me to handle. Plus, the surrounding audio made me feel like I was having auditory hallucinations (X...X...2...). Even so, if you've never been and have the courage to do so, this is definitely a ride worth checking out. As for me, I'll stay out of the fifth dimension, thank you very much. Side note: Don't bring your backpack/crossover purse onto the ride. I had a small crossover purse and the employees would not let me onto the ride unless I put it into their $1 rental locker. No cubby holes available. For some reason, they have cubby holes for all the other rides, except for this one. read more

This was my second time riding this insane roller coaster. The very first time I rode this was back in 2010. Mind you, I never had ridden on a roller coaster ever before in my life. My friend hasn't either - not sure why we chose this one, maybe because it looked badass? Anyway, 5 stars because the intensity is high! I rode it for the second time after 3 years, & it still shook me up a bit. My boyfriend made me go on, & I told him after that I will never ride it again - I was screaming at the top of my lungs! TIP: if you are still @ the park & it's 8:30 with the line being long, wait & stay in line, we stood in line at 8:45 & waited about an hour, & still got to ride on it. Even though the park closes at 9, as long as you're in line before then, you will be able to ride the coaster. read more

Despite the horrible ride maintenance the day I went on (only one train was running and the ride operators were EXTREMELY slow) and the fact that you need to buy a locker to store your stuff, the ride itself when it starts is an extremely crazy, discombobulating experience in the best of ways! For being the last ride Arrow Dynamics ever manufactured (with Six Flags making major modifications to it), this is quite the send-off! With the chairs spinning around you have no idea what direction you're going in half the time, whether its forward, reverse, up, down, left, right, etc. The first near-vertical drop is a mind-numbing experience as is flipping near a pair of flame throwers while a disjointed soundtrack blares in your ears. This state of organized chaos is one of the most unique roller coasters in the world and it remains one of the most popular, signature attractions at Magic Mountain to this day. read more

Requirement to rent locker SUCKS balls!!! My love for this ride goes back to when it was just X, now my 13yo daughter loves it just as much. It was one of the major reasons I invested in our memberships & we drive 80+ miles to ride it a couple times a year. BUT....All the necessary extra expenses paid while in the park for hydration ($5+ water & several needed since there is very little shade, ZERO water misters, NO cooling stations) are annoying but we bare it without complaint. Until now... On our most recent visit 8/16/19. X2 was closed for most of the day (as usual lately) but to our surprise was opened again shortly before closing. We noticed from the top of Viper's lift. So we speedwalked over immediately from disembarking. Waited 20+ minutes with the sun directly beaming on us. ( Really, Six flags? Plant a shade tree, install more tarps or bring back misters on queue. Just something. Pretty please!!!) Only to be denied access unless we rent lockers for backpacks. Well, we could ride but seperately while the other waits to watch our belongings. THIS IS RIDICULOUS. To be honest, we do normally ignore this and just drop our backpacks in a corner or place on top of lockers but found on this trip that Six Flags had an employee stationed there for no reason other than to enforce this extra expense. I find this repulsive that I'm being extorted to give more money to ride this ride. I don't care that it's only $1 a ride (small lockers tho. So, each backpack would need its own). The park is obviously making a good profit from these lockers. Otherwise you would not protect it by paying hourly wages to ENFORCE their usage. Although, I'm the opposite of happy about this policy I would have paid it rather than miss the opportunity to ride X2 but don't bring cards to the park to avoid loss/thief. ( You guys really should offer option to link debit/credit cards to pass cards. I mean com'on, it's 2019 already!). I did explain this to the employee hoping that she would let me slide this time. But of course not. Afterall, mom and her 13yo could just ride separately. Problem solved (insert eyerolling and sarcasm here). To sum up: I pay $400+ a year (on 2nd year now) to be denied the enjoyment of my puchase unless I pay $2 more!! This totally drops the stars for X2 and Magic Mountain in general for me. read more

An alright ride. The line wasn't too bad for me, about 35 min. I rode on a Saturday evening, that's probably why. The onboard audio rarely works anymore, but the flames do. Your neck will be thrown around a lot, be prepared for whiplash. Overall intense ride experience, and I probably will not ride it again. read more
