For today's review, we're going to be talking about the new for 2020 Launched Coaster at Six Flags Magic Mountain, West Coast Racers! This is another one of Premier Rides' launched coasters, and it's a good one! So let's get to riding this!
Anyways, we get into the premier trains, pull down the lap bar and the discomfort collars (sigh) and we roll out onto the launch. Now, this is a Mobius loop coaster just like Twisted Colossus. However, this coaster is guaranteed to duel every time thanks to the "pit stop." We then hit launch 1/4. It's kinda weak, but it makes you go fast so that's all that matters. We then hit the hi five-element which is my 2nd favorite part of the ride. DANG, this is a strong moment of ejector airtime. If there's one thing that caught me off guard with this ride, it's the airtime it has. This coaster unironically has some of the strongest ejector airtime in the entire park, it's CRAZY. We then drop down into this weird stall-like element, which provides some solid hang time. But then we hit the best part of the ride. We drop down into this double-down-like element which not only provides a STRONG airtime moment, but follows up immediately with a secondary launch and an airtime hill. And if you've ever experienced the third launch on Full Throttle on Eel, you know how awesome these launches are. We then hit a fairly snappy corkscrew followed by two extremely fun helixes, all while interacting with the yellow side. Yeah... they wanted this ride to emphasize on the dueling.
Following that though, we hit the pit stop. Which is West Coast Customs advertising their shop. While the theming is pretty excellent for a Six Flags park, there's one nitpick I have with this. They had to show Justin Freaking Beiber off as a customer.... just really.... his music sucks. Maybe this is a slight nod to the former Green Lantern First Flight since that ride is in Canada now, and Beiber is Canadian too. And both provide pain (in different ways). Okay, time to review the yellow side.
So we roll out when the white side is done and now we're on the yellow side. We hit the same fun launch and amazing hi-five-element as before. But we get to go under the white side inverting which is super cool. We then hit the same strong airtime hill, the final launch, the same corkscrew, and the same helixes. After that, we hit one final super floaty corkscrew and then we hit the brake run.
If I had one word to describe West Coast Racers, it would be FUN. This is the definition of an extremely fun ride. It's smooth, it's got great airtime, it's got great inversions, great launches, it's perfect in length, and it's just FUN. Six Flags's intentions with this ride were just to make it a super fun ride so pretty much anyone could enjoy it. And that's exactly how I feel about this ride. It's not extremely intense, it's just fun. It honestly reminds me a lot of Twisted Colossus in a lot of ways. Not as good, but similar in feel. So yeah, this ride is a great fit at SFMM. I highly recommend riding this at the park as it's a great coaster and it's fairly unique.
