I don't know the right word) at the end. It was nice that we could take them home right away vs coming back later. My kids, ages 7 and 9 really enjoyed the experience. I felt like the cost was a little high on the things to paint (most were $20+) but we did get a discount on the studio fee with the coupon on yelp so that was nice. It was also nice that we could get lunch and dessert in the same shopping area, making for a nice girls outing without driving all over the place.

I always think of Michael's first whenever I am doing any kind of craft. Whether it's crocheting,…read morepumpkin carving, or finding materials to make my boyfriend a noose or a gallows, I always come here. They do have quite a wide range of things you can do for crafts. If you're looking for something crafty to do that already comes in a box and you jut have to put it together, you may want to shop at Walmart or Toys R Us. But those of us crafty enough can come here to figure things out. I wanted to buy a couple of cylindrical jars, such as the ones you can put sand or pebbles in the bottom to hold candles. Not only did I learn that they have these items, but that you can buy in bulk here as well. So if you're looking to put center-pieces together for your wedding, I would see what kind of prices you can get here when buying in bulk before going somewhere else or paying out the dupa(sp?) to have someone else decorate for you! Or even if you just want to enter into the Guinness Book of World Records for knitting your Grandma the worlds longest scarf, I would recommend coming here!

On the plus side, they do have a very good selection of fabrics, which earned it a second star from me. They offer classes from time to time, like many other quilt shops, but I've found it really difficult to get class information. They have had my email address for quite some time, but I haven't gotten class info from them in well over a year. They offer long-arm quilting services, but the one and only time I took a pieced top in to be quilted, it was not ready until five months later! With no apologies. Unacceptable. The owner, who is usually the only employee working in the shop when I visit, is not friendly at all--and other quilters I've talked with have said the same, so its not just me. Sadly, I won't be going back.

I had an "heirloom print" from my grandfather's farmhouse. It was a circular image in a 20"x28"…read moreframe. The original Matt was there, but water damaged. THEY HAD THE ORIGINAL TO USE AS A TEMPLATE. But Michael does not cut Matt's, they send them to a place in Texas. I chose the expedited shipping. After 12 days with no word, I went BACK to Michael's where Miguel said he couldn't figure out what had happened to the order, but he would BE HAPPY TO REORDER IT FOR ME. Did so, and a week later I went back. The pictures tell the story. You can see the print and the original Matt, and you can ALSO see what they delivered....a 24"x32" matt with a WAY TOO BIG OVAL (not circular) opening. The Manager (Ernest?) got WAY CONDESCENDING and told me they would BE HAPPY TO REORDER IT FOR ME. (A word to the wise, Ernest, you can be snotty and condescending when you are GOOD AT YOUR JOB. Since you are not, you should hold off on the attitude). Frustrated, I figured I'd see what Hobby Lobby could do. Guess what? Hobby Lobby cuts their own matts, which the gal did in about 5 minutes. She also dry-mounted the print (another 5 minutes), and put everything together in the frame (another 5 minutes) for considerably LESS than Michael's had quoted me. Looking around while I was there, I noted that Hobby Lobby also has a better selection of frames and framing options, and their staff is MUCH more professional and talented. Another word to the wise.... avoid Michael's!

I will take photos of more items next time I'm there, but what most caught my eye were the items from the Hardcore Hearse Club. She has a few skulls for sale- beaver, fox, snapping turtle- as well as some bats and insects. I'm a fan of honoring the deceased - humans, animals, all living things - so long as they were not harmed in the process. (And I don't believe they were in this case ). I believe different artists sell their items in this one store- it seems like a marketplace for similarly themed items. Some are horror related, others witchy, and more are Halloween and gothic inspired. The store also has a back area. One of the owners Dave informed me that they have craft nights or you can even rent out the space for your group to use. They have an annual Halloween gathering, which I look forward to attending. This year, it will be on October 22, 2022. Sounds like fun! Hope to meet some other likeminded people in the area. =^.^=

The sign on the store reads "For Those Addicted to Cross Stitch," and there are certainly a lot of cross stitch patterns and supplies, but you can also find needlepoint, hardanger, needlepunch and supplies for other needlework techniques there, too. Not every designer is carried (you would need a HUGE store to accomplish that), but new merchandise comes in frequently, and Barb, the owner, will gladly order anything she doesn't have in the shop. And speaking about Barb, she is one of the friendliest people I've met. She knows all of her customers by name, and I have never seen her in a bad mood. Her staff are equally as friendly. You are always greeted when you come in, and you have only to ask for help, but no one hovers over you. The shop may be a little tricky for first-time shoppers to find. Beacon is a small side street just a couple of blocks west of LaGrange Road, and they are on the second floor--no street-level storefront. But once you find it, you'll see it was worth the effort to look for it.
