We were here 2 weeks ago and had an absolute blast thanks to our server Jason! He was so sweet and knowledgeable and helped steer us the right way in our order. He also did a fantastic job cooking everything to perfection. The food was so good we got some soups, the different meats for kbbq, tried purple rice that came with the meats, and the drinks were good too. It was also perfect because we were there for the BTS concert the next day and they were playing a majority of their songs while we were there. I will say it was disappointing to find out what water front means for them, we were hoping to be waterfront facing the water for the fireworks but honestly having Jason as our server completely made up for that. Mind-blowingly magnificent new restaurant! Upon entering, we were greeted by beautiful, courteous, and refined women at the hostess desk - soft-spoken, yet professional and elegant. The cocktail and bar area is brightly lit, has seats along the bar and dinner tables nearby. These are located directly in front of a full wall of open bifold windows that run the length of the restaurant. It literally feels like you're sitting outside on the water, yet you remain comfortably and cozily inside. The interior appears more Chinese in decor than Korean, but Wu's is owned by a restaurateur who has historically created fantastic Asian fusion restaurants. I think the merging is magnificent, and this specific restaurant quite authentically retains traditional Korean cuisine and flavors. Wu's clientele is richly diverse in age, race, culture, and profession. The space offers a truly perfect romantic date-night atmosphere, a lovely family-style environment, or a great gathering space for friends to meet up for cocktails and a grandiose, exhilarating dinner to share. I saw all of this and then some on Saturday night! The food is marvelous! We ordered the Prime Beef Combo (Beef Set B for Two) for $129. For a small $10 up-charge, we were able to substitute and remove the unwanted Top Blade and include the desired Ribeye, while still receiving the fan-favorite Galbi (marinated short rib), Boneless Rib, and Skirt Steak included in the set. The meat is perfectly cooked to order right at your table by your server, leaving it tender and juicy. It is well worth the price and could easily feed three, maybe four people. Accompanying the meat on the grill is a selection of veggies like zucchini, corn, and squash, which cook perfectly while maintaining a nice firmness and flavor. The traditional Banchan (Korean side dishes like kimchi, fish cake, marinated radishes, and bean sprouts) are magnificently flavorful, crisp, and replenished for free throughout your meal! With the combo, you choose one of four sides; we selected the Seafood Tofu Stew, and my husband absolutely loved it. It has just the perfect hint of spice in a savory seafood broth featuring minced garlic, sesame oil, fish sauce, and a medley of shrimp, clams, and mussels, along with diced onions, scallions, mushrooms, and an egg. Truly flavorful and delicious. The restaurant is new and state-of-the-art, specifically containing an extremely expensive, high-end ventilation system. No stinging eyes or smoke-filled clothing here! The vented tabletop grills gather the smoke, steam, and oil particles immediately as they are released, redirecting them through under-table ducts connected to the main exhaust system and are actively suctioned and drawn upward toward the roof by high-power commercial fans and then vented into the outside air at roof level. Miraculously, upon exiting, you will find that you still smell your laundry detergent on your clothing without a single bit of lingering oil or smoke. Important to note for navigation: Wu's is located at 403 E. Illinois St., but if you are entering on Illinois, you'll actually go through 411 E. Illinois, head downstairs through the double doors, and it's on the right side (sharing a corridor with Robert's Pizza on the left). Alternatively, you can enter directly from the front riverwalk, as it is located on the Ogden slip just off the river. Street parking is generally full because the restaurant is located in a bustling riverfront pocket of Streeterville. If you cannot find a spot on the street, there are several public, multi-level parking garages located within one to two blocks, such as the River East Center garage or the AMC Theater parking structure just north on Illinois St. or Grand Ave. SpotHero and similar parking apps are always great options too. Wu's Korean BBQ is everything and more than I dreamed of, dating back to my first Korean meal with my first (Korean) high school boyfriend and his family. My partner and I had a reservation for a boat tour down the river and were an hour early, so we found ourselves at Wu's. I can't remember the names of the cocktails we ordered, but both drinks were so refreshing, especially on such a hot, humid day. Roy was our bartender and was super friendly. We really enjoyed our conversation with him. He convince us to come back after our tour to try the food, so we did! We had a great experience at Wu's! We came in on a Thursday evening and were able to get seated immediately. They have a lovely, bright environment with huge tables that was warm and comfortable. We opted to set by the open windows, which was super nice to just be along the river on a warm summer evening. We went with one of their meat combos for 2--heads-up, the portions are HUGE. We were absolutely stuffed and left with so many leftovers; I genuinely think 4 people could be comfortably fed with this amount of food. The meat was excellent. My favorite was the galbi, but I really enjoyed the flavors and textures of each cut. I also liked the selection of banchan. My only gripe was the tofu stew, which I felt was too watery and diluted, but everything else was great! Additionally, the service was also excellent! It's always nice when someone cooks KBBQ for you, and our server was attentive in making sure our needs were met. We had a girls night and got the option A which says 2-3 people but we had 5 and it was more than enough. We got their rice cakes with rose vodka sauce and it was so good!! Trying to find this place from E Illinois is a bit crazy, like we're back in prohibition, but it's KBBQ that's illegal and need to be hidden. Definitely a lot easier to find the entrance on the River East Art Center Promenade, but Google Map doesn't know. I was a bit nervous when I first entered and saw five Asian staffers, with none of them being Korean, but they were all attentive and the food was the real thing. I did see a Korean worker later helping with the feeling, so there's that. The decor was very elaborate and cute, if a bit pandering to tourists, but A for effort. I would say this is less a traditional Korean restaurant and one that more caters to non-Koreans, but quality of the food seem to be good from what I've tried. That also means no refilled on banchan (think with exception of the combos), but at least they're not like some of these Japanese interpretation of KBBQ trying to charge an arm for a tiny bit of kimchi and practically the air around you in a presentable form or fooling people into thinking the thinnest 3-6 slices of meat possible brought on a platter being cheap. If you wanna go for KBBQ, why not go all out for the real stuff? Anyway, I digress. The beef in the tofu stew was good, although the stew was a bit saltier than I liked, and it could use more chopped vegetables. The steamed cheese eggs was tasty and makes for a good comfort food, although they might want to update the menu description. They used American cheese over mozzarella (the former does work better with the eggs) and no clue if they use truffle oil, not that I want my Gyeran-jjim to be overpowered by it unnecessarily when it's already so good. I have to start by saying this is one of the prettiest Korean BBQ restaurants I've been to. The interior is beautiful and very thoughtfully designed, but I do have to admit it doesn't really give off Korean BBQ vibes. It actually feels more like a Chinese restaurant. That said, it's located right along the river, and the atmosphere is hard to beat. We ordered the Wagyu set for about 3 to 4 people and added the army stew, cold noodles, and seafood pancake. It ended up being more than enough food for our group. The highlight of the meal was definitely the beef. They grill everything for you, and every cut came out perfectly cooked. It was nice being able to just sit back and enjoy the meal without worrying about overcooking the meat. The side dishes were a bit more hit or miss. The army stew wasn't quite what I expected. It had a huge pile of bean sprouts on top, which I've never had in army stew before, and the broth was noticeably more sour than the versions I'm used to. The cold noodles had good flavor, but the noodles were clumped together, making them a little difficult to eat. What really stood out was the service. Our server was incredibly attentive and constantly checked to make sure we had everything we needed. They even portioned out the army stew for everyone, which was a thoughtful touch. While some of the side dishes missed the mark for me, the excellent service and perfectly grilled Wagyu more than made up for it. read more

Very very tender beef with tons of flavors. With the glass noodles, this is a full meal by itself. Japchae was also good, but not much better than japchae you get from most restaurants. Seafood pancake was okay. Beef Set A was meant for 2-3 people. Not sure if because we ordered too many appetizer, beef set A felt like it can feed 5-6 people LOL Meat quality was good, but I don't really care for the brisket or skirt steak. Too dry and too chewy. All other meat was great though. The only rice they have was purple rice with red bean, which most people in my party didn't care for. Will I go back? Such a good addition to Streeterville! The space is huge and has al fresco dining options too! I came with a friend for dinner on a Friday night. It wasn't too busy and we were seated right away. We ordered and food came out quick. My friend is pregnant and has gestational diabetes so we opted for two orders of the brisket since it's unmarinated. We also ordered some spicy cold noodles. The food was SO good. Meat quality was excellent! Our server cooked the whole meal for us and she cooked it perfectly! She was very also very attentive. Being totally transparent, this place is a bit of a tourist trap . We picked it as we thought it would be " on the river" and while technically is located on the river there is no outdoor dining or any view of the river while you dine. This restaurant is enormous and it's a little hard to explain but felt sort of like we were dining in Disney world or universal studios. Sort of had a feel of a restaurant trying to be decorated as an authentic Korean restaurant but just missed the mark. Food was decent - prices were on the high end and not the best value ( which I suppose is to be expected in this area ). Overall , fine / average food but if you are looking for a true authentic Korean bbq experience, I'd head elsewhere. There are way better Korean BBQ places in this city . read more
