It's a hot summer day in Phoenix and I love a nice, chilly acai bowl, but my favorite spot is Downtown, which left me to try out Wulfenite. The prices were on the high side, but hey it was the day before my birthday, so "treat yoself" or something like that. This place is next to a pilates or yoga studio... makes sense to have a smoothie/acai/matcha whathaveyou nearby. Walking in, everything looks like it's made of plastic - the "brick", the "stone", the "plants", the "tile", the "wood". No welcome when we walked in either, but there was only one employee behind the counter, so we decided to sit up at the bar top where three other lululemon ladies were also sitting, thinking we'd make it easier on the gal working. The employee continued behind the counter, not acknowledging us, leaving us to admire the really freaking weird tv channel from 1990 that was playing on silent in the corner. She finally advised we use the QR code for the menu (which is using the word "organic" so often that I was starting to question the spelling of "organic"). Anyway, service = not friendly. She seemed super over it. Ok, yeah me too, so we put in our order and settled in while she bustled around for what felt like a very long time. I mostly spent my time accidentally kneeing the rock facade on the edge of the bar and wishing there were paper towels in their warm bathroom. By the time our acai bowls were ready, we'd decided that maybe the vibes weren't as immaculate here like they wanted us to believe and took the bowls to go. After all that time and money, these acai bowls were awfully bland. What's worse is that I was so hungry that I ate about half of it before I finally admitted that I didn't like the thing that my partner paid way too much money for. Well, good thing I said something because he took them both and mercifully tossed 'em. Don't waste your money unless you're only in it for the insta/snap/group chat. I've now been here a couple times now and love it so much! I wish there was one closer to me so I could frequent it more often. Both the baristas I met are kind and knowledgeable on all the delicious, health enhancing tea and smoothie options. I have yet to have a fruit bowl but would definitely like to try one soon. The decor is clean and welcoming, they have wifi, and seem to have a crowd that continues to trickle in despite the somewhat hidden location. There was only one employee working so it's not the speediest service, but we stuck around and each ordered a smoothie with vanilla protein... I had one with blue spirulina and my husband had one with berries. They were both pretty and delicious. It appears they use super high quality ingredients, but everything is pretty expensive, ie: a loaf of bread is $16 and our two smoothies with protein and a tip cost us $36. The first impression coming in here was it smelled so good! Whatever scent they were using was noticeable but not overpowering for someone who is very sensitive to smells. I got the blue cloud without banana and with almond milk and honestly it was perfect for me. I just got my wisdom teeth removed in the same plaza and saw their website that they have Erewhon inspired smoothies so I had to stop over!
