WCMF is "Rochester's Classic Rock" and they are part of the Audacy network. Audacy is the former Radio.com. They compete with iHeart and others. The transmitter is located on Pinnacle Hill in Brighton, Monroe County, and its studios are located at High Falls Studios in downtown Rochester. I had no problem getting them for quite some time as I drove west towards Buffalo. While some…read moreclassical stations are content to recycle the same pieces endlessly, WXXI steps up with performances from Glimmerglass, Wolf Trap, Chicago, and the orchestras of Cleveland, Dallas, and Santa Fe. One can hear classical music from all over the US. An Empire State of mind. They have unique shows like "Classical Guitar Alive" and "With Heart and Voice." Their Sunday morning programs focus on sacred music. It's refreshing. Seriously, what I love about WDKX is that from its inception, it has operated 24/7, since 1974! The variety of programming is completely original and they have a great balance of contemporary music and the classic hits! With Rochester's radio dial rapidly filling up with Clear Channel clones, WDKX is a refreshing breath of fresh air! A little known fact: the call sign for WDKX stands for Fredrick Douglass, Martin Luther King Jr., and Malcolm X.
