If she smiled, I fear her face might crack. Clearly she's never had any customer care training, but could definitely do with taking a course. It's a shame that basic manners are missing from this Post Office, where customer care is definitely not on the menu.

There are three sets of service desks: Self-service, business, travel and everything else. I forget how they labelled this one but it seemed to be for just regular non-business customers. There was a long queue when I arrived but they cleared it pretty quickly, I don't think I waited as much as five minutes to post my parcel. The staff member helping me was friendly and helpful enough although not very on the ball. He did try to sell me a credit card which I've not seen before but maybe this is a new thing to try to get the Post Office to make more money. They also have some stationary and bits and pieces on sale, things like jiffy bags and bubble wrap and they're advertising a deak at the moment where you can get cheap travel insurance when you get your travel money with them. It's handy enough if you're in the city centre but it's a little but chaotic and I suspect at peak times those queues get really long.

The staff are nice and friendly, and it is not a cramped place - large room with all the expected parcel items like envelopes, packing tape, padding etc. The card range is quite good too. There have never been big queues which is a nice change from other post offices I have frequented. You can park outside or further along the road as it is not 'yellow lined' or parking metered. There is a chemist next door if you need to pick anything up which is handy.

There are less Post Offices around these days, and for me it's a toss-up whether this one or the…read moreHillhead one near Oran Mor is closest to walk to. Most often I end up at the Hillhead one as I usually have other stuff to get in Byres Road, but I secretly prefer the Partick one, as it's still a dedicated post office and not a counter stuck at the back of a shop full of a maze of shelving stuffed with greetings cards and other crap that you wouldn't even normally bother to look at if you weren't visiting the post office bit. The Partick one is mercifully free of third-party product, it has plenty of space for the inevitable queue to snake back and forth, and although frequently busy, it's usually well staffed enough that things move along moderately rapidly. I've also had occasion to come and collect parcels here when I've missed the delivery (or the postman couldn't be bothered to attempt the delivery), although I'm not quite sure how that works as usually you have to go to the main sorting depot in Clarence Drive. The only downside is that the repetitive musical jingle from the Postman Pat ride will drive you insane while you wait. I don't know how the staff put up with it, but I guess the brain must tune it out after a while. I'm always tempted to unplug the cursed thing when I'm in there; or even worse resort to some major remodelling of Pat's van with a large blunt instrument.
Luckily any parcel deliveries I miss go to the Thornwood Post Office, which is just further along…read moreDumbarton Road. This is good because Partick Post Office always has a long queue and the service is so. painfully. slow. Perhaps this may be attributed to the overwhelming amount of coffin-dodgers that come here for all their postal needs? Slow motion with me... I've made the mistake a few times of coming to this location, only to stand and wait for.ev.er. Despite the convenient location, the service is massively slow. Next!

This is a typical combination post-office-cum-corner store deal, they sell cards, stationery, newspapers and small gifty things to distract you as you're waiting in the inevitable queue for the post office counters at the back. The staff seemed very cheery, even under the pressure of Christmas postings, and there was a good bit of banter going on between them, so it was difficult for anyone to get cross over the length of the queue. With all 5 counters on the go, things moved along pretty quickly anyway. Top tip - remember to go to the right when you enter as that's where the post office queue starts. It's difficult to see it behind the rack of cards and it is tempting to go down the left-hand side. But you'll be sorry if you do!

It isn't characterised by great customer service. It's somewhere between the wee sort of Post Office you get stuck onto a tobacconist up the back and an actual wee shop. I use it often enough through paranoia that my letters dont get where they're going with the new size/weight specification for letters, otherwise I doubt I would ever bother going.

Instead, the area to the left of the ramp now has lots of interesting stationery and other knick-knacks - notebooks, wrapping papers, local interest books, games and general 'stuff'. It's a good place to browse for that little stocking-filler present for somebody. The other side still carries a good selection of cards. Things have gotten busier now, and there's often a longer queue for the post office than there used to be. They do have a self-service machine, but I've always found it unreliable and seldom trust it to complete a transaction without something going wrong. It's worth keeping an eye on the shop counter while you're queuing for the post office, as they will often call you over if they're not too busy.

The shop/post office/cafe was quite busy which is great a new business. The gift shop section is packed full of gems like Nikki McWilliams cushions (you know the ones, they're shaped like biscuits), posh salted caramel marshmallows, sewing kits, notepads - so many beautiful Glasgow gifts. The shop is also full of interesting non-generic greetings cards. I spotted about 5 which I am planning to buy for people's birthdays. The gift shop adds an extra place in the West end to shop local. The cafe section is small but an welcome addition. We opted for a chemex for 2 as well as a slice of jaffa cake cheesecake to share. They get their cheesecake from The Artisan Cheesecake company based in Bathgate, which a firm favourite with a work colleague. The cheesecake was well worth it and was beautiful. However I would recommend sharing as it is really sweet. The coffee was delicious and I was so happy with our chemex as it meant I had more coffee to look forward to. I think I will definitely be heading here again for their coffee/cheesecake/shop/post office.

In actual fact it's rather irritatingly shoehorned into a small RS McColl's meaning it's a complete nightmare to queue in. For that reason, you should really do your best to visit at less popular times. And preferably in the school holidays.
