I, too, received excellent customer service here which helped make a fairly tricky task go a lot smoother than it would've done if I'd attempted it on my own. Good customer service can put a spring in the step of an otherwise drab day. Nothing cheers you up like being faced with a complete stranger who goes over and above their job requirements to be kind and helpful, simply because they want to make your day that bit easier. I was on the receiving end of such service last week, when I visited the post office on St Vincent Street to send a hideously stressful parcel of very important documents halfway across the world by parcel force priority. I was served by a man called Colin who was helpful and knowledgeable way beyond the call of duty, even though it was near closing time on a Friday. He made the situation much less stressful as a result. So Colin, I wish to thank you for taking pride in your job. Not being able to post my parcel, or doing it incorrectly, would have resulted in disastrous consequences. You can go to bed at night knowing you really have made a difference.

Having recently undergone a pretty drastic face lift, the Charing Cross Post office is now a rather pretty looking wee place which is bright, clean and fit for purpose. Friendly staff and ques that ain't as long as the Great Wall of China, make this a nicer experience than some of the other more central PO's. Oh, one more thing. I know somebody who actually gave birth to her second kid right there in the very post office. That was about 9 years ago and the staff still remember who she is...thats just cool.

There are several windows so multiple customers can be served at once and I've never been in with fewer than two of these running. The shop sells standard convenience store items as well as anything you might need in a post office, including stationary, bubble wrap, boxes and packaging. It's spacious and well laid out so that even when there are a lot of customers in the branch, it isn't difficult to get around and it doesn't feel over crowded. The staff are helpful and polite and are happy to make suggestions or give advice if you need it. I especially like that there's a large poster on the wall with a little Charing Cross history on it. That seems like a nice touch and I was tempted to stop and read it but, thanks to how efficient the staff are, I didn't have a long enough wait. Only two things prevent this branch from getting five stars. The first is that it doesn't have an ATM, which I've seen in other branches and I feel like the have space for. The second is that the opening hours are a bit limited - they're only open 07:30-17:30 Monday-Friday. Staying open just an hour later, or opening for a few hours on Saturdays would making using this branch far more convenient.

Instead, the area to the left of the ramp now has lots of interesting stationery and other knick-knacks - notebooks, wrapping papers, local interest books, games and general 'stuff'. It's a good place to browse for that little stocking-filler present for somebody. The other side still carries a good selection of cards. Things have gotten busier now, and there's often a longer queue for the post office than there used to be. They do have a self-service machine, but I've always found it unreliable and seldom trust it to complete a transaction without something going wrong. It's worth keeping an eye on the shop counter while you're queuing for the post office, as they will often call you over if they're not too busy.

The shop/post office/cafe was quite busy which is great a new business. The gift shop section is packed full of gems like Nikki McWilliams cushions (you know the ones, they're shaped like biscuits), posh salted caramel marshmallows, sewing kits, notepads - so many beautiful Glasgow gifts. The shop is also full of interesting non-generic greetings cards. I spotted about 5 which I am planning to buy for people's birthdays. The gift shop adds an extra place in the West end to shop local. The cafe section is small but an welcome addition. We opted for a chemex for 2 as well as a slice of jaffa cake cheesecake to share. They get their cheesecake from The Artisan Cheesecake company based in Bathgate, which a firm favourite with a work colleague. The cheesecake was well worth it and was beautiful. However I would recommend sharing as it is really sweet. The coffee was delicious and I was so happy with our chemex as it meant I had more coffee to look forward to. I think I will definitely be heading here again for their coffee/cheesecake/shop/post office.

The Sandyford Post Office was located a couple of blocks from where I was staying, the Argyll Hotel, so I stopped by on a walk. Sure enough they had stamps, and at a good rate. Other services were available including shipping and mailing, but I was waiting until my last full day to mail them - so I just went with the stamps. They were pretty in purples and blues and were enough to get the cards to their destination.

After I questioned the price the guy told me that was the rate for all of the post offices in the area. Ended up charging me 10 pounds after pressuring me to pay by saying that he had already printed the pgs and I needed to pay. Anyways I checked the receipt and it only says 10 pounds withdrawal, and no mentioning about the services I got. I called the central office (customer service complaint) and they will be conducting an investigation in this location. Left a review on google and owner left a rude comment putting the blame on me for not checking the prices on the printer which by no chance it was visible and honestly this is not the rating for printing anywhere (it's usually a couple of cents). I spent hours with people on the phone today and theres no way that they could have charged me 22 pounds for basic printing services. Be careful out there everyone, even in difficult times like this there are people trying to scam. By no chance I thought this would have happened at the local post office.

Most often I end up at the Hillhead one as I usually have other stuff to get in Byres Road, but I secretly prefer the Partick one, as it's still a dedicated post office and not a counter stuck at the back of a shop full of a maze of shelving stuffed with greetings cards and other crap that you wouldn't even normally bother to look at if you weren't visiting the post office bit. The Partick one is mercifully free of third-party product, it has plenty of space for the inevitable queue to snake back and forth, and although frequently busy, it's usually well staffed enough that things move along moderately rapidly. I've also had occasion to come and collect parcels here when I've missed the delivery (or the postman couldn't be bothered to attempt the delivery), although I'm not quite sure how that works as usually you have to go to the main sorting depot in Clarence Drive. The only downside is that the repetitive musical jingle from the Postman Pat ride will drive you insane while you wait. I don't know how the staff put up with it, but I guess the brain must tune it out after a while. I'm always tempted to unplug the cursed thing when I'm in there; or even worse resort to some major remodelling of Pat's van with a large blunt instrument.

This is good because Partick Post Office always has a long queue and the service is so. painfully. slow.
