Contrary to other Yelpers, I quite like this post office. True you don't get much in the way of friendly banter, although there is one woman who is good fun, but I've never found the staff to be unpleasant. That being said, the interaction mostly needs to rely on hand gestures, as you can't hear a damn thing - which is generally what happens when you stick gigantic glass screens between staff and customers.
One of the employees even helped me today, and SAVED me money! I know! In a Post Office! Anyway this is a very boring story so I'll keep it brief. I had an A3 sized envelope with loads of A4 paper folded over in it. It was too bulky to fit through the mad board with slots, which meant I would be getting charged extra rather than just paying a normal first or second class for it. The woman opened it, pushed all of the air out it, sellotaped it closed again, and hey presto - it fitted no problem. She taught me a trick of the trade!
The shop section is not as good as it used to be - the shelves are sparse. They used to have quite a selection of goods, but now it seems to mostly be a few greeting cards and post related items such as envelopes and string. It's no wonder really with Velvet Moon opening up next door - that's probably taken a lot of their small gift business. They also seem to be under-staffing the shop. Nowadays, you usually need to go to the post office counter to pay for your items rather than the shop counter. Which can be a bit tiresome if there's a queue.
Anyway, this place does what a Post Office does. Let's face it, they are all a bit crap nowadays, and I don't think this one is any worse than any others. read more
