The campground is not exactly wooded, but is filled with big trees, giving it lots of shade and a bit of a wooded feel, which we like. The parking pad at our site was nice and level and big enough for our truck and trailer. The picnic table and fire pit did the trick. The campground was really noisy until exactly 10pm when everything fell silent. It was quiet until 6:30am, so sleeping was easy-- minus the yells of wild animals that fought nearby. The bathrooms were impressively clean! At least the family and women's room. I didn't shower there, but will remember for next time how clean they were. The camping fee was comparable to anywhere else we've camped. Will be back!

The trails are clean and well kept. If hiking isn't your thing, there are lots of areas to play frisbee, let your kids run around, or have a picnic in the shade. It's about a 45 minute drive for us, so we don't go often but when we do go once or twice a year, we always enjoy this beautiful park.

I went down the stone stairs ... they were slippery but was glad i still could manage them. They have changed things ... added wooden pathways and more water at the bottom of the stairs. I'd hoped walk to both waterfalls. But wearing new shoes and saw it was muddy. So just headed back up the stairs to the car. They have bird feeders at the buildings. Nice place to hike. I'd never been here but the lovely Mrs went to camp here with her 8th grade class back in the 80's. I'd never been so was kind of curious about it as I was under the impression that it's just a park where kids could learn about nature and all its magic. What I found out is that it is an incredible wandering path. Lots of things to see like waterfalls, rock formations and even a path where you get from one side to the other by stepping from stone to stone. Lots of folks, lots of pets, big and small. The education center had a park employee out there with a bigger falcon, then a smaller falcon and then the gorgeous barn owl. The folks inside the education center were incredibly helpful and knew a ton about the inhabitants of the 'enclosures'. My favorite was the teeny tiny Megatron who's the smallest and cutest owl I've ever seen. Park isn't marked very well. They suggest you download the digital map from the QR code as you walk toward the very nice restroom facility. This is very nice but... the signs(pieces of paper with numbers written on them) with the corresponding numbers from the map are either missing, blurred due to water or faded from the sun. I'm hoping one of the Boy Scouts we saw while here takes it upon themselves to start their petition to create more permanent signs for their 'Eagle' comprehensive service project. There were so many times we were like...where are we. Plenty of trash to pick up so if you're like me, bring a small grocery bag and leave it better than you came. Thank you to the nice couple with the long haired dachshund who climbed the rocky pylon to help me get the cup that had been left there. It makes me happy that there are people still out there willing to help me with such simple but worthwhile side projects.

Camp Birch is the home of the Tecumseh Council's summer camp, and varrious other Scouting programs. The camp is also available to non Scouts BSA youth groups. About 440 acres of land make up the camp. Camp Birch is surounded by neighboring Clifton Gorge, John Bryan State Park and Glen Helen Nature Preserve. All totaled, the land total over 2,000 acres of natural spaces. Those stay at the camp have the option of reserving cabins or tent spaces. Camp Birch, and the Tecumseh Council recently played host to an OA regional event. Fields, and areas utilized for the program were all prepared in advance, and were in good working order. Shower houses were open. Scouts tent and hammock camped.

Starting from an access trail next to the dam, we went counter clockwise , linking the yellow and orange trails. We probably did not get the full "experience" since we were there in the winter when the leaves were off the trees and the river level was low-ish. I am looking forward to coming back in other seasons. Two words of warning: Remember that the trails can be muddy due snowmelt, even if the snow has been gone for a few days. Saw several people out there today whose originally white sneakers are probably a few shades of darker brown now. Also, mud will be thicker and deeper down near the river where soil will have been pushed down the river during previous floods.

I think it's a great place for the community and kids are protected by the long term commitment of the staff and community members. Great fishing spots and the beach area has been updated tremendously since I stayed there five summers ago so it's worth the price and I don't think it's too much to ask for people to pay to keep it there for 60 years and Dave loves spoiling guests one hell of Fireworks and the convenience store that is now epic! Laundry room on site and for those who want a shower it's been updated to the next level of expectations of me and I have worked the restroom duty and it's not just me but RESPECT is the only way to get a Good Night Shower and clean restrooms and watching the kids and getting involved 2026

I've read reviews about how loud the Traffic from the nearby highway is, and how loud the and frequent the trains go by. The trains did go by but didn't disturb me nor did the highway traffic. There was a drunken fight but I see that at almost every camping trip. You can't blame the campground for that. I've red the reports of the mean man and the grouchy old woman at the counter. I found the woman at the counter rather pleasant when I talked to her. As far as the mean man I believe the reviews were talking about David. I didn't see him as mean. He treated me well. I did think it would have been nicer if he didn't jack the camping fees up for the 4th. I've read reviews that the Restrooms showers and picnic tables need to be updated. Come on this is camping not glamping. As someone that uses appa to order food I can almost see how useful an app would be to reserve a spot but I know too that apps make mistakes. So maybe not such a good idea. I've read the reviews that the lawn needs mowed. It looked fine to me. Over all not a bad experience. I enjoyed my camping trip with my brother.

Trails are pretty well kept, though I managed to get a bit turned around a few times, probably more related to my (lacking) sense of direction. There's TONS to see here, like most of the area metro parks, and I missed a few of the main attractions, but did check out the pond and the small waterfall.
