I knew I wanted him to fix the cap shingles on the peak and he quoted his rate for that work over the phone before he came. He pointed out some areas of the roof to monitor but did not make a hard sell--he said if I wasn't seeing any leaks he didn't want to possibly make things worse. Brian was extremely prompt. He was on time for the initial quote, on time when he said he was coming over to drop off samples, and he and his crew were even a bit early on both days of work required to complete the roof. Brian was extremely patient and helpful throughout the process, answering all of my questions, and taking the time to get on the roof himself to take close up pictures to show me the issues that we had so that I was better educated. We needed to have the entire roof replaced, and Brian told us it would take one day, possibly two worst case scenario. Turns out out roof was not properly vented and so we had FORTY sheets if plywood that needed to be replaced. Had it not been for that extreme amount of additional work, I am certain they would have finished in one day. Both days the weather outside was approximately 15 degrees, but that didn't stop him or his crew. They were at the house by 7:30 AM (on Saturday and Sunday), and didn't leave till after the sun went down the first day. Very hard working, cleaned up after themselves each day as immaculately as you could hope a roofing crew to. We had the roof done in early November, and there has not been an issue yet, so I haven't had to call Brian back to fix anything (though given our experience up till now, I have no doubt he would make it right back out here).All told, it was an extremely pleasant process working with Brian and his crew, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to anyone who would listen. We were very concerned that so many contractors would not be experienced enough to deal with the challenges that a house, built in 1753 would naturally have. Dave and Mike came into an absolute mess with our post and beam construction since the damage to the fieldstone foundation impacted the entire house. They did a fabulous job, better than any of our expectations. Whenever they encountered a problem we thought would be insurmountable, they calmly figured it out; even as our house was then effected by the Columbia gas explosion, right in the middle of construction. Dave gave us good advice, made solid suggestions on how to maximize our insurance money and was calm even when we were not. The communication was quick and clear even with the other contractors. I had my reservations about siding an old Victorian with vinyl, but after painting it 4 times under…read moremy ownership I took a leap of faith and hired Budget Exteriors to install new vinyl siding on an old house. I can say hands down, Lou and his company Budget Exteriors was by far the best siding contractor that I have ever used. He was meticulous in making sure he knew what I wanted, and that the installation was done correctly and followed through making sure that he actually achieved the look I wanted to maintain. He made an old Victorian look new again and kept many of the original details and replicated the freeze boards that make that era house unique. For the vinyl materials we used a realistic looking clapboard siding with a 3/4" deep profile and virtually no lap joints. We used a product that was true and tested and which is a leader in the vinyl industry; Certainteed Monogram XL .46 mil thickness with 20' lengths, with detailed corner posts and matching PVC trim, the finished product looks amazing as you can barely tell that its not wood from the street. He wrapped the original window frames with a colored textured aluminum coil material with 5 bends and color matched the sealants, they look very much like the original frames, color and all. It's truly amazing to see how many compliments we received from our neighbors and from people just passing by. His crews worked long days and were nothing but professional and respectful, and they cleaned up after themselves every day. I never had a single problem during the installation but good to know that if I did, Lou would be there to make it right. At this time it looks like money well spent, as it looks terrific and very happy with the installation and the process. I can only hope it stays that way and it holds up to the test of time. Lou and Budget Exteriors warranty's the workmanship for 7 years, and Certainteed Monogram has a lifetime warranty, will be sure to update you if I ever need to call him back, and more importantly where we go from there and how he responds.
