DO NOT GO LOOKING FOR A POSITIVE EXPERIENCE AT "MOVEMENT". YOU'LL LIKELY BE DISAPPOINTED…read more Two weekends ago I went to visit my sister who lives on Bowen Island. Our Mum and Dad were with us, as well as my sister's mother-in-law and her sisters-in-law. We were looking forward to browsing in this shop because my sister has a clothing piece from there and it's something I'd enjoy seeing more of. Upon approach to the shop's front door I was suddenly right in front of the store's owner who asked my name, and was I x person or y person? I was told that it was important I understand that this shop was "... An intentional store...", to which I inquired what that meant. The response I was given was a diatribe of how she had no staff because of COVID (I was told many things at this time, I may not get them all correct), etc... Basically indicating that before I could enter the store I was expected to use the QR code to browse her website, then choose a style, size and color, and if she had it in stock I'd be permitted into the shop to try it on. Another member of our party flat out asked if "intentional store" simply meant that we could only come in if we were planning on making a purchase, and the owner then got her fur up and started blabbering about something incoherently. To make a long story short, my sister eventually expressed to the owner that she felt this was a rude way of treating potential customers. The entire party was in agreement at this point, and we decided to leave. The owner was very upset and began yelling at my sister, telling her that she could have been out with her friends at a baby shower, that she'd given up her entire Saturday for this "appointment". None of us understood how she didn't want to be at her shop in a very touristy location in mid-August on a Saturday, but whatever, she escalated her behaviour and was asking if anyone had ever run any businesses, to which a number of us replied that yes we had, and she just started slinging insults. Our father was with us and she was following behind him, continuing with the rude commentary. My Dad finally turned around and told her to "shut up", to which she responded with a rude expletive I refuse to write here. Basically, nobody understood how this person could ever get any business with her attitude and ability to send potential customers running in the opposite direction. It was extremely negative, the whole thing really upset not only myself, but several other of the adults in our group. I can only say that in my experience, it's been very useful to ensure that customers (serious or not) feel welcome and comfortable to come in and explore, but this piece of sales practice must be totally foreign to the owner of "Movement". Needless to say I highly recommend avoiding an experience like this by not visiting this store. If you do, I really hope you have a different experience than our lot did.

From within a steampunk-ish Quonset hut meets Country & Western travel trailer, this little donation-only thrift store still manages to delight. Outside it has the look of something almost military, but inside it's just a warm and fuzzy Sally Ann. There are lots of somewhat organized (darn you, customers) shelves of just about everything you might imagine in such a shop. Bowen Island has a small population, just under 4000 people, but this little store gets a wide (weird) variety of wares from an eclectic group of donating Boners (Bowen Island inhabitants). How about a set of book ends made of golf balls? yep, they got'em, well at least until I bought them. It's not a big shop, but the stuff they get in will sometimes amaze you. They don't have everything and some of what they have is typical thrift store junk, but occasionally you'll hit gold here. The store is worked by a lively group of mature employees that don't take any guff, so leave your guff at home. As for the pricing, that's another plus, it ranges from "pretty darn good" to "man, what a deal!" When on Bowen, there are a few must do's for the uninitiated, walk the lake, stroll Artisan Square and visit the Knick Knack Nook. But seriously, to say that the KKN a well-kept secret would be an understatement, it's a locals cache located on a part of Bowen that tourists don't usually find. But if you find yourself on Bowen, then let yourself enjoy a little of the kindness of Boner generosity. You can even take some home for a very reasonable price. I have been enjoying the KKN for many years now and although I don't find something great on every visit, I am always happy I went in to see.

Lazy way to sell. 1…read more They don't have delivery service and it is not guarantee we can pick up the floors in store (it depends on the provider). I was driving to Burnaby with my contractor to get the flooring until I found out (calling the store in the middle of the way) that I had to go to Port Coquitlam! They told me that I had to call to ask where the flooring will be for pick up, but they should have told me that right away! I am your client! I don't need to call store to ask where is my product. I would not have bought in that store if I knew I had to go that far on a weekday. Also the underlayment wasn't in Port Coquitlam warehouse. I had to drive again to Burnaby to pick it up in store. So convenient. 2. Restock fee policy: 25% (5% above the standard) and you need to bring back in 15 days. Renovations take longer than that. How do I know how many boxes I need to return if the contractors don't install in their 15 days policy? Also they don't accept the return right away. They need to call the provider (which have restricted hours) to find out how is the return process. In the meantime, I kept the boxes in my car until they asked me to return to the provider warehouse in Port Coquitlam (of course!). And don't forget that the store hours only let me go on weekdays and business hours. In summary, lazy way to sell. They basically stay in behind a desk asking us to deal with their provider. They do nothing other than getting our money and make some arrangements. A message to the store: Please! Provide delivery service, have a convenient warehouse that your clients can go pick it up any product and all of them together. Be clear about locations, accept return in store, be flexible with return policies! I don't care about the rules of the provider! You are the seller, you are making money, so do you job to make your clients happy. I've bought other flooring in different stores and the experience was exactly the opposite! At the end of this whole thing, when I told them that I was very unhappy with their service, they said I should be happy that the warehouse accepted my return with 25% restock fee. Am I surprised that they did not apologize for that experience? Of course not.
