Vancouver's vintage and consignment is already notoriously expensive and caters almost exclusively to a small dress size. Community, a Vintage and Consignment that is run by a non-profit Downtown Eastside housing and resource society not only engages with the neighbourhood it lives in, but also works to diversify its size range to engage with shoppers of many sizes. It hires women from the neighbourhood to work in the business and portions of the proceeds go back into the neighbourhood, which feels great while you shop! The space is small but well utilized and well decorated. Great jewelry by local designers is on display and the clothes have a very consistent and curated turnover rate. And the prices!! Compared to Vancouvers vintage scene, Community is absolutely the fairest price I've found yet. These days even Value Village is getting pricey so to go to a shop where the selection is so well picked out and find something affordable feels great. Again, I'm a plus size shopper who finds an amazing score here 90% of the time. Pieces from Community make up probably 50% of my wardrobe. See you there this weekend!

Profits go towards a good cause so that's definitely a bonus compared to other for-profit thrift stores. There's also a free membership program where people can collect and redeem points. I've gotten brand name clothes for a few bucks here and brand name nice bags for $20-30. There's everything from clothes snd accessories, to household products and furniture. There are also gaming systems, instruments, books, baby items, beauty products and much more. They run rotating 50%+ off sales every day on different types of items Sometimes it'll be clothes, sometimes it's kitchen products, sometimes it's arts and craft items. They post the daily sales on their Instagram page so it's super convenient to look up what's on sale before going. I've also made a bunch of donations to the store - just drop off stuff in the bins behind the building during their collection hours.

Such a unique thrift store…read more The Exchange is located on Orcas Island. It's not far from the ferry drop off, and an easy pitstop when your driving towards East Sound. This warehouse is filled with two-stories of second-hand goodies from the island. You'll find a large selection of kitchen gear, board games, winter items, and lightly-used treasures. They've done a great job separating each of the spaces, making individualized rooms and isles to showcase different categories of goods. There's a large space upstairs for all their outdoor and sports gear. I even saw a number of skis, boots, poles, and jackets that instantly caught my attention! The team here is incredibly kind and will help you hunt through their many isles for the perfect find.
