Super rude blonde lady snapped at me after I came in to look at pictures in the front corner room. She was in there organizing and I was waiting out by the window looking at other things waiting for her to be done. She said something to me , didn't quite hear because of her accent. I asked what she said and she snapped back "this zone in closed! " I said do you mean the picture area or .... She said this whole zone ! There was no signage saying this nor was the section closed off and the security didn't say anything when I walked into the section. She then told me she was cleaning the floor in this section. She had no broom or mop anywhere around. Just super rude about it. It was ten minutes until the store closed. Mostly this store is full of overpriced garbage anyways . My condo building recently got rid of its clothing donation bin, and I had a lot of items to get rid of (specifically, gently worn - and some new - clothing that no longer fit me or my kid, towels and bed linens, small household decor and accessories, puzzles and games, books, and more). I asked around, where best to donate all these items, and many of my neighbors suggested I take everything here, to Wildlife Thrift Store, saying "they take anything". So off we went, to donate tons of bags of items. We discovered this shop doesn't exactly accept "everything"; they refused a large upholstered back support pillow (the kind college students get to read or study in bed), despite it being new and unused. They told me that they do NOT accept pillows. Good to know for future reference. (Note: they did accept everything else). While there, my kid and I explored the shop. Here are our thoughts: The positive aspects: -the shop is located right smack dab on the corner of Granville and Drake. If you have a lot of items to donate, you can pull up beside their door on Drake and honk and the staff will come out to your car and bring your items inside. Nice! -the shop is very large inside, as it is deep, and it is extremely well organized, with separate small rooms and niches for kitchen items, dinner service wear, puzzles and books, sports items, purses, and racks and racks of clothes that are organized by gender, type and size. It all made browsing quite easy. -the variety of items was extensive. I saw items ranging from good quality ice skates to gold estate jewelry to designer sneakers to trendy straw purses. -the staff here were super nice. -I really like their support of various local charitable organizations like the Vancouver Food Bank, Coast Mental Health, and others. In fact, they donate a LOT to local charities, and I really respect that! -their website says they receive and recycle goods all day, every day (10 hours a day, 7 days a week). That's really awesome! The store features that were less positive: -there's a ton of construction on Granville and cross-streets nearby. This is not the store's fault, of course, but it's good to know if you're driving here (like I was) and you have a ton of items to donate. You can't park outside the door - not even close, - and it's tough to find parking. You'll end up shlepping lots of bulky items in to the store, making multiple trips. Be prepared for this, as the construction isn't ending any time soon. -as mentioned, they do not accept any type of pillows. They don't accept larger furniture items (what constitutes "larger", I'm not sure), baby toys or baby stuff, printers, and perhaps other items. (Honestly, I would call or email them before going there with a lot of things to make sure they'll be accepted). -there are some very decent deals here, for sure, but this place is very different than the thrift shops I've been to in the States. Some items were quite expensive, like, over $100. Granted, these were for designer sweaters or shoes (and the ice skates we saw), but still. When I go thrifting for clothes and items in the States, I've never seen used items - even designer items - cost more then $15-20, and even that's rare. (In Portland where I go to Goodwill with my kid, all items are weighed and you're charged per weight, and even designer clothes and shoes cost a few bucks, max (literally. A whole cart of clothes would cost between $15-25, literally, and my kid has found Burberry sweaters and dresses and coats by other designers). So, yeah, don't expect huge deals like that here. (Granted, this store does donate to charities, so there's that). -some of the items I saw were VERY worn and VERY used, with leather on some shoes cracking, and some purses's straps were torn, and some shoes, dirty. All in all, I'd definitely return here to donate items, and yes, it's fun to browse, but I'd inspect everything super carefully before considering to buy anything. read more

They are charletons. Their buisness model is volume, skim, discard. They throw most of the donations away. I found this when I went badk the next day to recover an item donated by mistake. They take advantage of people's good nature thinking they are keeping items from the landfill, because they are the only thrift store in the downtownn core. Dont believe me? Look in the store. They simply dont have space for bric a brac. They are part of the problem not the solution. Take your donations to Value Villiage or Sally Army. They never replied to my charge, because they know it is true. read more

It's a tad rough, stinky and dirty but on occasion there are some great treasures. I've bought ice skates for cheaper than renting them, designer shoes for cheaper than lunch and random quality kitchen items for less than a bargain store. Clothes, shoes, housewares, art, furniture, sporting goods - they seem to have it all in limited space. Staff are great, pricing is fair. Worth a look. Inventory changes very regularly. read more

Nice spot on Granville with a cool painted shop name on the exterior. Just a smaller version of their downtown location, with clothes, books, jewelry, records and CDs, silverware and knick knacks. Probably one of the rare thrift shops in Vancouver that has reasonable prices (now that thrifting is trendy, every place has jacked their prices way up, which is ridiculous). Some of the clothes aren't so great and you wonder why they've made it into the seemingly curated picks of clothes. But there ARE good things too, and the good things are well worth it. Wildlife is organized and there is a decent selection of home goods, sporting goods, and furniture. Not to mention a fair selection of books, records, and CDs. It's on my rotation of thrift stores in town and the location on Granville is so accessible. read more

Maybe we are spoiled with the thrift stores in Seattle and the Eastside!?! Thrifted Dior, Gucci high end label and the like on the regular over here. But this location felt like the dumping ground from other thrift stores "no thanks". Most items where dirty, extremely worn, the shoes where rotting on the shelf, bleached by the sun etc. The prices are expensive for the product. We were so disappointed as it was a treak to get there from our hotel at Canada Place. At least The Rock Shop saved the day!! read more

A great place to go thrifting! They still have change rooms (a luxury post Covid), great organization, and new stock is always coming in. I love that they discount different coloured tags every week. I've gone here a couple of times recently to drop off items as I saw that they are connected with Covenant House, which is a charity I donate to. I don't shop at thrift stores but I have seen quite a number of people in there on both occasions. They are, in fact, practicing COVID protocols like masking, distancing, and disinfecting, despite what someone posted here earlier. The staff I talked to were great: as good as I could want. I only intended to drop stuff off for transfer to Covenant House per the instructions on their website, but had my few questions answered very well. I'll be going back with some more items and will browse their books. Glad they are there and working to support important people-focussed charities. read more

Although the days of finding former DJ records from closed Davie Street Nightclubs are l-o-n-g gone, WTS keeps surprising me with an endless new supply of good quality compact discs for $2.00 a pop. LOTS of rock titles, and film soundtracks, amazing jazz titles and out of print funk/soul/dance compilations do get donated. Take care to check, that the CD jewel cases are not empty, and that the right disc is inside. I keep going back two or three times a months, and there's a damn good reason for that! read more

BEDBUG ALERT!!! A few weeks ago I purchased a beautiful old trunk from these guys and soon after discovered that I suddenly had a bedbug problem. I paid a specialist over $400 to take care of the issue and they were able to track the problem definitively back to the trunk where the primary nest was. Feeling obligated I went back to the store to share my findings with the owner Gary who refused to listen to me and proceeded to insult my intelligence stating that there was no way the bugs came from his store. When I mentioned that he had an obligation to his customers to at least look in to the issue he told me to get out of his store and to never come back (I wont). The issue of the bed bugs aside I am very upset that the owner treated me the way he did when I tried to share my findings with him. I was not seeking any kind of retribution for my expenses what so ever. Not even a refund on the trunk that I probably over paid for in the first place. All I have to say is if you do plan on shopping here carefully inspect everything. if you absolutely need to buy something from here make sure you heat treat the item before bringing it home. read more

A big green store on the corner of Granville and Drake with such a hipster-sounding name was a bit too suspicious for me. Granville strip = douche central (see: drunken girls fishing dropped cell phones out of sewers while faux-Jersey muscle-boys ogle said girl's right cheek as it precariously pops out of her tiny dress), and Wildlife (see band names of late: Wolf Parade, Fleet Foxes, Grizzly Bear, Seabear, We Are Wolves, Deer Hunter, Animal Collective, et al). My assumption: it will be pricey; it will be run by semi-cute and highly apathetic skinny boys who haven't washed their hair in days; and I will like most of what they have in stock. The reality: 1 out of 3 are truths. Rad book selection, bad book selection, awesome men's *and* women's clothing (and shoes! if you're into that kind of thing) that doesn't smell too bad at all, a varying degree of pretty effing decent furniture (from uber-lame 80s mirrors to actual fer-rill vintage pieces -- appropriately priced, natch), all for *reeally* low prices. As in, a thrifty person can afford to shop here. Also: the requisite semi-cute sometimes apathetic skinny boy *will* greet you from behind the counter. A surprise on the Granville strip, a sometimes miss, but a must-stop on the vintage tour. read more

As far as the store goes, it is very clean, well staffed, and friendly. The items are overpriced, many things are worn out with pilling, fading, and are stretched or shrunk. There is a smell of "old clothes" wafting throughout. The store uses the word "Wildlife" but no donations are made to wildlife only to some organizations that work with people. I tried to donate for the animals and nearly got kicked out for suggesting it to "Mark" the manager of the store. I spy with my little eye..... A Thrift shop from our window where we are staying! So, I sit down, Yelp it.... and it sounds good. This was the starting point for our aimless adventure today. A welcoming arrival, two friendly people at counter - check :-) Can we bring the dog inside? Yes ! -check :-) Lot's of racks of clothing, both men's and womyns. Also some shoes, then another room of furniture. It sounds like there are some changes in store (no pun intended, te-hee) -in the future. I'll check back for the progress. I love that a portion of each sale goes to help raise funds for a variety of charities around Vancouver. It used to be just animal rescue, but it's more than that now. I love... 1) That the people who work there are so nice, and now actually greet me by name when I come in. 2) That your collection of shoes never disappoints - Seriously, You have fed by boot addiction in a way that should be unhealthy to my wallet, but instead has equalled the price of about one pair of boots 3) That you have furnished my house and made it look like a killer expensive downtown condo for a fraction of the price. 4) The GORGEOUS designer clothes I have managed to snag for seemingly nothing 5) Your wonderful assistance in my DIY wedding designs. The selection here is vast and I'm sure there is something for everyone. They've got everything from books, houseware, clothes to odd junk. But be careful how they price things. I opted for a pair of battered looking fairy wings as a part of my Halloween costume. I went to the counter expecting to pay very little. The wings were falling apart, hole-ridden and definitely not "gently" used. I was a little taken back when the cashier said they were $7. "Oh they could cost up to $15!" At retail value, maybe? But wow. In the end, I saw it as a charitable contribution to the store so I just paid and left. Moral of the story, put down the item if you're flabbergasted at the cost. Musty from what i've seen, overpriced for the stuff that they sell for SURE ( i've been to this place tons of times ), and the reviews about bedbugs are horrifying. I also left a pair of nice green glasses here in a change room and not 30 minutes later they had sold them... nice jewelry though i've found some cute stuff but not clothes unfortunately. The furniture selection here is fantastic. But for that matter, so are the options for clothing, records, and housewares. It suddenly makes me wonder why I don't visit this location more often. The store does have a bit of a strange vibe due the occasional oddball customer who follows you around. Well, more than occasional. But the staff are nice and seem to take it all in stride. Expect the Wildlife Thrift Store to have a far less picked-over inventory than you'd find at The Salvation Army. And best of all the proceeds go to help skunks and other rescued critters. read more

I felt pleasantly overwhelmed when I stepped inside and after about thirty minutes of looking around, lo and behold there was a DOWNSTAIRS. I also got a computer chair and vacuum for under $ 250.00. Oh and don't forget the amp I bought for my record player. The service was excellent. We just moved to Vancouver and left all of our furniture behind. We had great service and the gentleman that served us was fantastic. In fact our in laws had to pickup the furniture and other items. The gentleman that served us stayed late to help load the truck for my in laws. I am very satisfied with the service that i received and I will definitely shop there again. Located right on the corner of Granville Street and Drake, Wildlife Thrift Store is a large retail space dedicated to second hand goods. They have a wide and broad selection, ranging from furniture, toys and household accessories to shoes, winter coats and residual costume ideas from Halloween. Everything here is generally quite cheap, with clothing rarely exceeding the ten-dollar mark. While thrift stores tend to steer towards the trendy direction as of late, this is plainly a thrift store and not some kind of haven for vintage treasures. This being said, they do have some good stuff and the stock is always changing. Good place to go if you're on a budget and you don't want to break the bank on a coffee table that costs more than $20. read more

I generally don't go here because the staff are so rude. I don't know if they are paid or volunteers. If some of the staff are from programs they support (mental health) it might be more understandable but I don't think that they are. It's seems a bit astonishing that some basic social skills are completely lacking. Overcome the fear of pre-worn clothing, I have, and Wildlife Thrift is even more inviting. Since my last review, I've picked up a few items that caused both my wallet and I to surge with happiness. Of the clothing, books, records, and pretty much everything else, one must be a persistent picker to find the goodies amongst the garbage. That being said, once you find your gem, rest assured that the price will be within your budget. Long black XS peacoat from Le Chateau - $10 Zing! Pretty emerald cocktail dress - $10 Zing! Copy of 'Eat Pray Love' - $2 (even though the price said $5) Zing, zing, zing! What's even better, is that they took out the wall separating the furniture from the rest of the store. The strange art hallway is still there, but now the whole space is opened up. This funny green emporium of cheap has quickly become one of my downtown daily-dos. read more

I visited this thrift store a couple weeks ago even though it was a bit out of my usual 'shopping range/stomping grounds' because I am really on board with the mission of the store. However, the clothes were too pricey! H&M shirts should not cost more in thrift stores than they do at H&M. Also, there was a fat spider in the pile of bags I was sifting through. Lovely spacious store with employees that are available to help if needed, but do not harass you. Wildlife donates to four local charities with varying causes, from mental health to rape relief. Pretty diverse selection, but the products are not that cheap, given the lower brand name compared to some local clothing or furniture consignment shops.
