I am writing this update because Jason Lear sent a message to myself and husband, Tom Schabarum…read morestating that we had been maligning him for two years. This is one of his many misrepresentations. I wrote one honest review posted here, on Yelp, and on Angie's List. And now this update. Jason says that his firm repeatedly told us that they told us our ideas were too expensive. That is an out and out lie. We still have the interview questions in which we specifically stated our budget and in which Jason Lear responded in writing that his firm could accomplish doing what we wanted within that budget. We did make suggestions about what we wanted in our house. We also make it clear that we did not know how much items cost and we were depending on experts to let us know that. Well, they let us know after they designed the house. Then expected us to pay again to redesign the house. Jason Lear's firm designed a house that included a green roof and triple pane windows. We had never heard of triple pane windows or a green roof before meeting them so we did not request those expensive items. When we asked to have them removed, we were told that that would be more design cost. Jason Lear's own project manager came to the house two months into the project and asked why we weren't tearing it down because it was too expensive to fix. We learned a very expensive lesson dealing with Batt & Lear.

He was very knowledgeable about the design period of the house, and I liked that he took my concerns about lead and asbestos seriously and carefully explained their process for abatement. The design meetings with Jason, Jan and Holly were fun and they took our feedback constructively. I felt like they really listened to how we used the space. When it came time for the remodel to begin, working with Greg and Wayne and the rest of the construction team was awesome. There was fantastic communication - they answered all questions promptly, provided updates on the schedule, and held weekly meetings with me to cover details and get feedback. They were very considerate about being in the house, cleaning up, asking permission to move things, etc., and they even offered to work around our toddler's nap schedule! I also really appreciated that the whole team hustled to get the project done and finished right on schedule, because I was very pregnant and had a baby due within a week of completing the project. Initially, we had wanted to remodel both our kitchen and bathroom, but it became clear pretty early on that we couldn't afford to do both. Jason was upfront about what both projects would cost, and so we decided just to focus on the kitchen remodel. As other reviews have noted, they are not cheap, but you get what you pay for and the end product was absolutely worth it. The design and construction quality are incredible, and I appreciated that they paid a living wage and worked hard to donate a fair amount of our old kitchen to other homes, as well as make sure elements of our new kitchen were sustainably sourced. Ultimately, we love our new kitchen and wouldn't change a thing. The design fits in perfectly with the rest of the house and we have received endless compliments on it. We would definitely hire Batt + Lear again.

We called York Enterprises based on their reputation and couldn't be happier. Tyler came out, inspected the damage and gave a very reasonable quote to repair the damage and replace the flooring. He even gave us a few recommendations on affordable flooring to buy which saved us hundreds of dollars. The team came out, made all the necessary repairs and were very pleasant. Our bathroom never looked better and the communication from Tyler and the team was fantastic during the entire process. Thanks everyone!

We hired Shirey Home Pro for significant deck repair on our 50plus-year-old house: A couple of…read morejoists had rot and the wood deck boards needed replacing despite regular maintenance through the years. At Shirey's suggestion, we used TimberTech Azek boards and found a MAXI version in Coastline grey. We're now done except for the custom railing on order, and couldn't be happier. Lead carpenter Bryan is a deck mastermind who was great at figuring out sound, good-looking solutions to our issues. Both he and fellow carpenter Jeromy were highly skilled and efficient, left the work site immaculate at the end of every day and were also just nice to have around. We like the results so much we added fascia and new board for our catwalks to the original agreement. Shirey's inside staff -- coordinator Ashley and bookkeeper Brenda -- are equally great, and especially good at timely, clear communication. We look forward to using Shirey Home Pro again and highly recommend them.

I emailed numerous times about a delay in our countertop coming in and never got a response. Called and she said "I don't know why they didn't ship it." She said she would call back and let me know. A week later, no call. I called again and talked to the owner who was snappy but told me my countertops arrived that morning. At templating, the owner was rude and judgy that we were using IKEA cabinets even though we specifically asked about using them in the show room and were told it would not be a problem. When it came time for installation, no one called to set up the appointment. Just said "we are coming Wednesday". In the end I agreed to the day but scheduling together did not happen. Worst of all, After installation $400 dollars worth of multitools were missing from my kitchen. Emailed the office and surprise... no answer! Also, there are spots of resin all over the countertop that won't come off. Super disappointed. Will never use them again. Also it looks like they burned part of the quartz underneath a seam. Shockingly... no answer from the office about that either.

My wife and I went to HD and got a turnkey quote to put a quartz countertop on our island. This was…read morewith a 20% off sale on the square foot price of the quartz. We thought we owed ourselves a second bid from a company that actually does the whole job themselves, so we went online and found a few places and decided to contact Orca Granite and Stone. Long story short, we went with Orca and paid the same as if we'd gone with HD without the sale. They sent us to a distributor in Kent to pick out our slab. This was easy and once we found the one we liked, we got the slab # and batch# and gave this info to Orca. Not every batch is identical. Once Orca got the slab to their shop, we came and selected the portion of the slab we wanted for our counter and where we wanted the sink to be placed. Had we gone with HD, we would not have been able to see the slab or choose the portion for our island and where to place the sink. This was an expensive upgrade to our kitchen and not having any surprises was worth losing the 20% off the actual Quartz, but there is no discount for all the extra add ons at HD. So I don't know what the HD experience would have been and it doesn't matter. My wife and I found this experience to be painless. We met and worked with Stephanie, Mr. White/owner, Ryan, Christopher and Richard and another fellow that I can't remember his name. Everyone, so, easy to work with. The installation day came within three weeks of our contacting Orca. The installation was done by Christopher, Richard and Ryan. From the door to the island and all around it, they laid moving quilts down. They removed to old sink and counter and replaced it with a beautiful customized 8 x 4.5 foot countertop and installed a brand new sink. They did such a good job and when they left, there was ZERO cleanup. If you want no surprises and a pleasant/seamless experience, you'll find it working with Orca Granite & Stone!!!!! We worked with J&M on a bathroom remodel. Bathroom is 5x6 feet and quote was for 6 weeks work and…read more50k. We ended project at 18 weeks and 60k. During our project, the sub-contractors damaged the wall while installing our toilet by drilling through the wall and failing to hook up the toilet correctly so that water was pouring straight into our basement. The sub-contractor did pay for these damages. We had no supply chain issues with our project as we had purchased all the materials ourselves before hand. Our primary issues with working with J&M was that due to the amount of projects they had going on, it felt that unless we were actively saying we were unhappy with progress and calling J&M frequently, there would only be work at our home 1 or 2 days a week. When asking for estimates for components J&M were unable to provide accurate estimates. For example, it was estimated that tiling our shower would take 1 week with 2 people due to the complex design. It ended up taking 3 weeks. This is our only bathroom, so we lived with my parents for several weeks, but I would hesitate to recommend J&M to anyone who doesn't have a flexible timeline. In addition, J&M failed to notify of us of change orders that resulted in an increase of price. These were supposed to be agreed upon mutually before the work was completed, but instead J&M released them after the work was done and were forced to eat the cost. J&M did not provide any options to mitigate this cost even though this was in direct breach of our contract. Ultimately, we are reasonably happy with the final outcome of our bathroom, but extremely unhappy with path to get there. We ended up not asking for several fixes as we were so fed up with the inaccurate timelines and constantly changing estimates. Fixes include 1) bleeding paint on ceiling, 2) missed paint spot, 3) grout on window and tile, 4) miss-cut vanity counter-top, and 5) dip in floor tiling causing one spot to not drain. All in all, J&M has good general contractors, but seem extremely mismanaged in the back of office. If you do work with them, double check all billing multiple times as we found several inaccuracies. Hold J&M to prices and push back on change order process.

Chris and Lucas arrived to make the repairs, they were punctual and professional! I watched over the course of 3 days as they worked, I was impressed with their attention to detail and skill. The finished product was amazing! They had to remove the existing French doors and pull up a section of my dining room floor to remove the damaged section and rebuild it. Chris and Lucas took pride in their work and the finished product looks better then when the house was originally built! After each day of work all materials were picked up and they cleaned up too! Larry, the project manager is kind, respectful and communicated every step of the way. I was a little sad when they were done because Larry wouldn't be coming over anymore, he was just an overall pleasure to have around. Rhonda makes sure that the billing is transparent and detailed down to the penny so we never had any surprises or questions. We contacted Chaz and Jeannette after both the contractor and flood mitigation companies recommended by our insurance company dropped the ball. Titaan came in and fixed the mess left by those companies and the pipe leak. They refloored our entire bottom level, remodeled the bathroom, had custom stair treads made, and stayed in touch with our insurance company. Most importantly, they finished the job before our Christmas Eve party. I almost wish we could have another pipe leak so we could have them back to remodel another bathroom. Seriously, they do great work. At the very least, call them out for an estimate. They have excellent communication as well, we knew what was happening at every phase of the project.
