Such a wonderful find for a tea lover such as myself. Row and rows of delicious loose teas of all kinds (green, black, chai, oolong, red, herbal) on display for you to drool over. The only problem was how to choose just one with so many intriguing options! This was a perfect way to end a long day of sightseeing. The kiddos and I sat down on the cozy couch and relaxed with a nice hot cup of tea on a rainy Halifax night. Perfect! They were ready to close shop soon, but the person behind the counter insisted we stay as he cleaned up. Soooo sweet. He fixed us up our tea like a chemist behind the counter. The girls had a tasty caffeine free chocolate tea and I had strong, berry black tea. The only thing I didn't realize was just how much tea came with an order, an entire small pitcher! Next time the girls will share one. He poured my leftovers in a to go cup for me to take with me on my way. We had just eaten so we didn't indulged in the tempting baked goods that were displayed but perhaps try them for a treat! They have teas to go, sold fresh and loose as well as some pretty tea pots and funky accessories. I say it's a must stop when on Argyle Street. We weren't looking for this place in specific but rather happened upon it, and a good thing we did! Lovely varieties of tea displayed in easy to decipher packaging; quaint decor & ambience, with a decidedly geeky(and proud of it!) spirit; and a very friendly young lady at the helm, directing our decisions and answering our questions all made this a must-stop when we next find ourselves back in Halifax. read more

Argyle Street's premiere tea shop is officially open for business, giving its predecessor a major facelift. Walking in-- the spot is bright, airy and with a high-tea mentality that lingers through interior touches to the actual drink/ food servings. Having just a wee space to work with hasn't stopped this spot from making it about the experience. Blah seating has been replaced by tall leather chairs and a small whirl of tables. A fresh coat of paint, counter/ menu board revamps... the entire space feels more open and inviting with these new touches. I dallied my way through a lovely corner set-up of tea accessories and take home blends. The Tea House sells about 70 or so of their own making, as well as a nice selection of Stash. Gourmet tea makers, teacups, extra gadgets and steepers are all available in clean and modern aesthetic, and I found two mugs that I'd l o v e to drink my morning tea in. The tea selection? Solid. Treats? This was the closing deal for me. As a tea fanatic... what accompanies my hot one is just as important. Its the full experience! So to see glass encasements of frosted cupcakes, oversized squares, embellished rolls of delight-- I was impressed. These people really know how to compliment a good tea, and with my herbal green, my first Tea House indulgence would be the Blueberry Roll. Delicious, glazed and melt-in-your-mouth. Had a really great, light and well-balanced earl grey hot chocolate. There was a lot of foam though - took a while to figure out how to drink it without giving myself a milk beard. My travel companion had a coconut cocoa pu erh that was full bodied and flavorful. This was a nice place to take a break from walking through windy downtown. I have visited World Tea House on 2 occasions. Growing up in NL, it was Tetley tea or die so I was turned from all things tea. In my older age, I have decided to abandon my prejudice of tea and embrace it. I was greeted as I walked in the shop by a lovely woman who saw the deer in the headlights look (and faintly panicked) and was gracious enough to answer the stupidest tea questions on the planet!! After checking out some of the competition, I have definately confirmed that this is THE PLACE to go in HRM for tea. Period. For Price, Ethics, Taste, Selection, Staff, Environment it gets all around 10s. There is very little that could be improved here, unless they would start serving food so I don't have to go around the corner to pick up lunch and bring it back. Perhaps a tea-membership program or some fancier flooring, but as far as improvements go. This is the place to go for organic, environmentally sound, fair trade, high quality, staff knowledge, taste, selection and quantity. They offer a wide selection of daily use tea ware to get you brewing efficiently at home. This place is geared towards tea lovers and new tea enthusiasts. It's the best price, best in house cup of tea, and best place for your daily tea needs. They even have cute gift boxes of tea and some niffty tea gadgets (like usb/car heated travel mugs). The gift boxes contain a few smaller tins to fill with your choice of tea with environmentally friendly tissue paper. The box is simple, cute and good for the earth. Their latte selection is great, they offer chocolate varieties, cider based creations and amazing re-steeps on plain pots. A house of tea, what's not to love? I had been meaning to stop in here for ages, finally did tonight. They have this vast selection of tea, it's insanely hard to decide what to get. I decided on the pumpkin pie tea and oh boy, it was deliciously delightful. The service was great too and they have so much to look at with their cute tea accessories and decor. It's a cozy little space with a welcoming atmosphere. I can't wait to come back and try more! I hope they can also get in some more vegan-friendly treats and snacks. They do have Larabar's and Crowbar's but some vegan cookies would be nice. :) P.S. I'd choose this place over David's Tea any day of the week! Apple cider tea fusion. It's like Christmas in a cup. I'm a tea lover of all sorts: chai truffles, earl grey vodka, iced fruit teas. You name it, I love it. But this was my first experience with a cider tea fusion. Apple cider steeped with a cinnamon spiced black tea. Who knew? Philip - the proprietor of canisters and canisters of tea, that's who. The store itself is wide and narrow with (dare I say) hundreds of teas lining the shelves behind the counter. There are also sweet little tea balls and other varietals of infusers, two notables: a monkey and a rubber ducky. There are a number of tables, plugs, free wi-fi, and a sweet Yelp check-in offer. And if you're staying a spell, snack on some of the sweet tooth treats that looked tempting, as well as some healthier granola style options. Yep, they still offer over 100 varieties of teas but there's more to the experience than just hot water and leaves! I liiiike tea but I don't liiiiive tea so I'm glad to know that Philip behind the counter is able to suggest tea-based concoctions that get me excited the same way a specialty espresso might. From a spiced Chai to a Maritime Fog Latté (Earl Grey, steamed milk, a touch of maple syrup), I keep finding more reasons to go back with each suggestion made. More than just the hot drinks (and iced for that matter), the World Tea House has a ton of tea-accessories that make perfect gifts, and gorgeous fresh baked goods made locally. The cinnamon bun? Well worth it, my friends! Quiet atmosphere, not too many distractions (except maybe the sound that the door makes when opened) and reliable wireless make for a nice downtown office if you can grab the only power outlet. I really don't have enough good things to say about the World Tea House & I highly recommend it to everyone I know! The owner, Phil, is very passionate about tea & his enthusiasm is contagious! Every time I go there I receive amazing service & leave talking about how I need to go there more! The pricing on tins of tea might seem expensive in comparison to purchasing a box of tea at the grocery store but it's so worth it, there is no comparison! These tea blends are fair trade & almost all organic not to mention fantastic & oh so special! Honestly, I've never been to a better tea shop! I've been going to World Tea House whenever I'm in the area for a couple of years now and have always had a wonderful time! There are so many options for tea (black, green, white, oolong, herbal), as well as great concoctions using tea as an ingredient! The owner and staff are all knowledgeable and really helpful when it comes to helping you pick something you'll like. You can either get some to drink there or buy some to go. The store sells a variety of cute tea accessories, teapots, books on tea, honey sticks and more. It's a great spot to pick up something for the tea lover in your life (even if it's just you!). Today I had the great luck of getting to sample a number of teas while there for the Yelp Halifax tea party. I also finally got the chance to try their Purple Haze, which is a tasty iced drink that includes rosehips, hibiscus and pineapple juice. I was worried it might be too sweet, but it was just the right mix of sweet and tart; plus, it changes colours as you mix it! I also bought some looseleaf tea - assam and the Egyptian camomile. The assam is the best black tea I've had in ages! There are baked goods available and I think I saw some vegan options, though I can't remember re: gluten-free. If you want a meal, you should pop by somewhere else. If you want any espresso drinks, you're out of luck because they only have drip coffee. This is a haven for tea lovers. There's usually a few chairs outdoors for a patio, but this summer with the construction happening on Argyle, there is none. There are various table and chair combos indoors. I've done some work here in the past using the WiFi. Your best bet for parking is probably a parking garage (try the one by MEC). I know that in the past there has sometimes been someone in to read tea leaves, but I'm unsure if it's still happening. There's also a knitting group that meets there on Thursday evenings. I'm not a huge tea drinker but I do occasionally like a hot beverage that doesn't come with the caffeine buzz of a late-afternoon coffee or the calories of a rich hot chocolate. The World Tea House is a cute little spot tucked into a tiny space on Argyle Street. Whether you're into tea or not, this is an interesting spot with excellent tea, other hot drinks, a great selection of tea accessories and tasty baked goods. No flash here in this locally owned shop. Just hardcore tea. The shop has an extensive collection of over 100 types of organic, fair-trade loose tea. For the most part, the teas have straight up names so you know what's in there. Although I did buy one named Chocolate Monkey based on the name. There are small jars of each so you can check them out before you buy. Best of all, you can do the sampling yourself without having to wait for staff to help you. The staff are very friendly and will happily answer any questions. There's also a full line of "teaware" accessories--teapots, strainers, and tea balls. Just as impressive is the selction of baked goods provided by Sweet Smiles (I'll have to check that place out). I had a lemon roll that was delicious. You can enjoy your tea at one of the few tables or get it to go. In addition to serving straight up tea, there are also latte and iced versions available. I tried a mint tea latte. It was fantastic and tasted much better than a latte you would get at one of the big chains. The shop is also dedicated to the environment. I was in one day and the owner told me that the shop focuses on composting and reducing waste to produce only one garbage bag of waste per week. Very impressive for an industry that can easily create a litter of throwaway cups. So if you're downtown pop in. You might become a tea addict. read more

I love a spot that will let me linger, and I've spent many an hour here and I've always felt welcome. Kudos to their management and staff for hitting the right vibe of professional and casual -- not always an easy feat! Another total bonus: free wifi for all your online needs. And emergency Kindle downloads on the fly. There are a PILE of teas to choose from, so I definitely recommend talking to the staff about what you like. It can be a bit overwhelming if you go in blind. I love that you can get endless water to revitalize your tea, and the little steeping timer is a great touch. Never do I have to guess if my tea is perfectly ready! I've also tried a blueberry bun/roll kind of thing that was DELICIOUS! Super blueberry pastry goodness. Perfect addition to a hot pot of tea. My only ONLY note would be on the temperature of the joint. Because of the large windows, I think the cafe cools quite quickly. This morning after two cups of coffee my stomach hurt, my head ached and I was so fidgety to the point that no work was getting done. That's when I decided - I'm swearing off the coffee! Since I had a TeamBuy coupon burning a hole in my wallet I headed up the street to World Tea House. I had done a bit of research online but the man behind the counter (who I assume was the owner) was so knowledgeable. My father always told me, "If you're going to ask for someones advice, take it!". I took his advice and ended up with a herbal tea called 'Welcome' (Chamomile, rosehip, lavender, roses and pink Peppercorn) and 'Hot Rod Green Tea' (Green tea, yerba mate, ginseng, licorice root, ginger, lemongrass and peppermint). Both are amazing and perfect for my changing moods and energy levels! I fear I may have just moved from one addiction to another but oh well, this one is pretty tasty! On a side note - I also purchased an 'Aladdin' loose tea travel mug that has an infuser built right into the lid. Which grew to a few more. And then a few more. And now my cupboard has all these damn little tins in it and a little tea pot, and a travel tea mug, and I started buying gifts there and lo and behold, it had become my favorite cafe to stop into. I made my 1st visit to World Tea House yesterday as part of Open City and I was impressed. I am not a major tea drinker but every once and a while I do enjoy a chai tea or a green tea. For a non tea connoisseur the staff was very helpful and sent our group over to the wall to smell and check out the tea selections. I settled on a green tea with jasmine and blue berries, which had a nice flavour and was enjoyable to drink. We also had the experience of having our tea leaves read, which I was a little iffy about having done and really enjoyed. I will go out of my way to get to the Tea House because I know that as soon as I walk in it feels like home and makes me relax. I went to the world tea house today for the first time. I too, had a teambuy burning a hole in my pocket. I am not a tea-junky, but I quit coffee many years ago and am now 21 days sober from Diet Pepsi which I would imbibe on daily basis at 9:01 sharp! I needed something delicious to replace my morning pepsi and I thought it was time I took the walk up the hill to the shop. When I know I want something, I am not big on browsing for an hour - I want to get in, get what I want, and get out! Haley(sp?) was particularly helpful. I told her I like black teas and flavoured at that. She swiftly escorted me over to the sensory delight of the tea wall! I sniffed a variety of black teas, and finally settled on the Coconut Black and the Coconut Cocoa Pu-erh (pronounced like a Parisian would say pooer, and it made my day that Haley said it out loud for me!) Wonderful spot, tea was delicious , we tried a hot talis masala chai and a special Hawaiian cocktail purple iced tea that was a red roobois mixed with spices with pineapple juice. Incredibly refreshing and delicious. They have TONS of different exotic teas and varieties of cleverly named blends. The people there are incredibly friendly and very personable and helpful. They also sell one of the coolest tea balls I've come across , Mr. Tea. Had to buy one! Great spot to sip a cup or pick up some new tea for home or a gift. Love this place. So I started meeting a friend at the World Tea House after work every once and a while--mainly due to the location. The atmosphere is something to be desired. There's not much space to sit and sip your tea and I'm prefer places that are warm, cozy and relaxing. I do not get that vibe here. However, the staff are super friendly and helpful and there is a very wide variety of teas. I find they are a little overpriced for such a small cup. $2.30/cup I highly recommend the Chocolate Monkey tea. Although, I would prefer to buy it to make it at home. read more

I get myself into trouble all the time by saying: "I don't drink coffee, I drink tea." How can that lead to trouble? Well, I know nothing about tea, in fact. I mostly know that I don't like coffee. Even my love for tea is a recent development. However, I still tend to stick to the more "mainstream" teas. Thankfully, the World Tea House gives me the chance to explore with a (quite frankly) insane selection of teas. How is that not overwhelming, you may ask? Well, it's the staff: they know their stuff. Which is good because, again, I don't. Beyond their stupefying selection of teas, they also have snacks. Delicious snacks. You might fear (as I once did) that a tea house would be stuffy and proper. You probably imagine uptight British folk, right? Admit it, you hear "tea house" and you think of cummerbunds and crumpets, don't you. Well, that's not this place. It's very relaxed and mellow.
