This is a lovely coffee shop for people who favour 3rd generation coffee shops. No seats. That's OK. Staff was super lovely - coffee delicious - not a huge amount of treat options but enough. I was from out of town but locals seemed to favour this place. Love encouraging small local places. This is a great one! I would purposely plan to end my runs at this shop as an incentive it worked! Best downtown coffee shop that's tucked in to the lobby of an apartment tower. It's tiny but the coffee is strong and the service is friendly. They are the only place that is open SEVEN days a week and EARLY on Sundays! Love the staff here. The space is tiny so don't expect to bring your entire office with you. Two ledges at the window sill to stand at or take your coffee to go. Inviting plant-filled space with a few snacks to choose from in the counter. A few non-coffee options like kombucha in the fridge. No parking so go on foot or take the bus. Super convenient walking location. read more

Really smooth espresso with no bitterness after the fact. Mochas are also incredibly smooth. A friend used the term 'velvet foam' to describe when a cafe gets it right. This team gets it right consistently. We're visiting from California where there are some decent cafes. After our first visit here, we were coming up with excuses to drive through downtown Halifax en route to other places so we could stop by. We have a 6 AM flight in the morning. But if Weird Harbour Espress Bar were open 24-hours-a-day, we'd definitely make a detour for one more visit. Almost forgot, their pastries are very good too. read more

Came here during a trip and was delighted to see that they use detour coffee beans- one of my favorite coffee roasters from Toronto. I used to be a bit of a coffee geek so I've tried a lot of cafes and this place is one of the best in Halifax. I ordered a latte to enjoy there. Milk was textured well so the latte art keeps its appearance and doesn't bubble up and fade when you're trying to take those Instagram pics. The taste was balanced without being overly bitter. Tried my gf's matcha latte with soy and the matcha was smooth and creamy. They only serve espresso and matcha based drinks for now, so if you prefer something like drip coffee you can order an Americano. Only downfalls I saw was that seating is limited, and the place might be easy to miss when you're walking down Barrington. read more

I have fairly particular tastes when it comes to coffee - my tastes aren't better than others, I just like particular things. I'm from Australia where there is a great espresso culture, and I generally like things close to an Australian flat-white. I was on the search for a new café as I usually go to [unnamed] but their coffee didn't seem as good anymore, and my other favourite in Halifax, Two-If-By-Sea (go to their other store if you are in Dartmouth), had closed down. I went in to Weird Harbour hoping that it would fill the gap. I was not disappointed. The flat white is fantastic. The guy serving was incredibly friendly and helpful (I don't look hipster at all so I assume he's friendly to everyone). The only possible downsides are: (1) limited range of snacks (try Apothecary bakery down the road), and (2) very little seating. These are far from critical problems for this type of place. read more

Weird Harbour reminds me of tiny coffee shops that I've seen in larger cities. My visit this morning invoked memories of a past trips to exciting places and delicious cups of coffee. The friendly hipster at Weird Harbour welcomed me and gave me the rundown of what they offer. No drip coffee here - only espresso-based drinks. I settled on a soy latte. I noticed a small display of baked treats, but today I was only interested in a hot, caffeinated drink. (This worked out well, because Amy brought in chocolate croissants for everyone while I was out getting my beverage!) My latte was delicious. It was the perfect thing to drink on my walk back to the office in the fresh, cool morning air. I'm sure I'll visit Weird Harbour again. Great little find. I always search best espresso and coffee shop wherever I travel and this one is tied for sure. Super friendly staff, nice and small little place with all that you need. Just a few quick snacks like a few muffins, cookies etc. They focus on the drinks. Great coffee. Was with another coffee connoisseur friend and we agreed, they do it right! I love coffee like the Gilmore Girls love coffee. Okay...maybe not that much. I won't drink it in the middle of the night or anything...but I love it a lot. So when a new coffee shop opens up within a ten minute walk of my apartment, oh yeah I'm happy. Weird Harbour is a small espresso joint with limited seating but lots of light. It's minimalist in design with a definite focus on the espresso bar - I love it! The owner is so nice and is genuinely excited to talk to everyone who walks through the door. My latte was delicious - one of the best I've had in a long time, actually. He also has a limited selection of baked goods available, though I was all about the espresso when I went, so I haven't tried any of that. I love Weird Harbour for a quick grab and go latte, even though I'm more of a drip coffee kinda girl myself. When I need a ~fancy~ coffee, though, this is a wonderful place to go. read more

I've been meaning to check this place out since before they opened. I finally made my way in here the other day and am so glad I did. This place is somewhat hidden. They only have a window decal up to identify the storefront. Inside is bare-bones (in a good way!), eclectic minimalist decor. It's very clean and bright. There isn't much space for seating, however. It's a bit of a smaller space - maybe 4-5 seats? The guy working here was SO nice. Also, an incredible multi-tasker. I overheard him talking to the customer ahead of me regarding milk options and he was offering to bring in a few cartons of customer's go-to milk. How sweet is that?! He described all of the yummy snacks they were offering. There wasn't much, but it all looked delicious. I had the muffin-cookie thing and a latte. Both were fantastic. I'm picky when it comes to lattes, and this one was exceptional. Prices were reasonable too - exactly what you would expect for an espresso-based coffee drink. 10/10 I definitely recommend checking out this little coffee joint. It's definitely a gem. read more
