Stopped here for breakfast to go. Reasonable prices. Sandwich was 100% worth it. Great taste, fresh, filling. California bagel.

Tasty breakfast items. Got here not long after their opening and fresh muffins were being taken out of the oven. Iced latte was great and there were several sugar free flavors available. Comfy chairs for hanging out and a few tables if you are eating in.

Such a cute little stop on our visit to Halifax via the cruise terminal. We stopped by for a coffee to warm up and quick treat, but I was delighted by the easy to read menu, pleasant and patient staff, and great selection of savory and sweet treats. The seating is limited in this quaint shop, but comfortable if you need to post up for a study session or work meeting. They offer milk alternatives and vegetarian options.

This alone should make you want to eat here!

If you want a great cafe, come here. What separates coffee shops? The Staff........You would find it hard to find a place where you are more welcomed. Wonderful breakfast wraps and wide selection of bakery sweets for those that like to be sweet.

Nice small corner shop. Baked goods. Lots of coffee and teas to choose from. Coffee expresso roast not the best I've ever had, but okay in a somewhat bitter way. Loved the staff & customers, tho. Busy place.

Amazing sandwiches and coffee! Came here for a quick lunch and I was not disappointed. They have a really unique selection of drinks that make them stand out from the other cafés in Halifax.

    Cappuccino!

Great spot for working - went twice in one day ! Also would be great if you had to hold a small meeting - they have a great space downstairs - quiet and neat atmosphere - cool furniture tables and outlets to charge from . The cakes were great and a nice variety of lattes too! Lots of coffee places to choose from in a small area but Will come back here again !

Really enjoyed this place. During our visit we would go here for great espresso and lattes. Their bagels and wraps were also very good, and everything is reasonably priced. Highly recommend if you're in the area or if you're heading towards he seaport farmers market or garrison brewery, which are relatively close by.

catchy looking artwork, I looked at a few times.

Halifax has a lot of charming cozy cafes to go to. All of them offer the perfect coffee to start your morning right, and the Wired Monk gave me another satisfying brew on my second last day in the city. The most relaxing area of the cafe is the fireplace in the back with nifty artwork displayed above it.

Cozy. Good food and good coffee. A good place for writing. No loud annoying music like lots of restaurants and cafes. Just very calm :)

Words to the wise: The Sonic Temple is a dream venue for music lovers. While it typically exists as…read morea recording studio for artists, The Temple occasionally houses live performances within its walls. So. If ever you catch wind of a show happening at The Sonic Temple, be sure to grab up on tickets ASAP. Its an experience! The space is quite small, housing just under 70 people, so performances are intimate, engaged and high quality. The A-frame ceiling of this 1820s heritage home sets up an epic shelter with hanging candle holders and sky lights to boot. More candles scatter around the walls and ledges, highlighting gorgeous brick walls and its backdrop behind the 'stage'. (More of a large carpet then an actual stage.) Its part of the Sonic Entertainment building on Hollis street and not a venue that is open to the public on the regular. Thats why you've got to keep your ears open! The Temple is built by artists, for artists as a place of solitude to facilitate the recording process. Maritime artists like Joel Plaskett, Matt Mays, Symphony Nova Scotia have all recorded here. (to name a few!) Who knows when the next show will be... ('Post Data' just held a show there March 7 & 8th) but to have this place on your radar is certainly not a bad idea. And if you're a musician looking to master an album, The Sonic Temple is the cream of the crop. An incredible use of space to draw inspiration from both artist and audience...

Sometimes you go somewhere without a clue what to expect and you leave feeling disappointed…read more.. This is not one of those times. As a pre-show get together for the Canada Heritage moments at the Carbon Arc (note to self: remember that review too), Meegan and I met some fellow yelpers here for some nosh and wine. We were the first to arrive (around 5ish) and if I can give anyone a little piece of advice about going to check this place out for the first time let it be this - that was the perfect time to be there. There were only a few patrons inside so we were able to get some great service (both fast and super friendly). As it is a music bar and grill they seem to have an extensive list of upcoming events but when we went all was quiet. While the menu can seem a little pricey we happened to go in during happy hour (4-6). Appetizers are 2 for 1, house wine $5 = Happy Tara! There seems to be a lot of talk about the grilled cheese sandwich this place serves up but Meegan and I opted to for the lamb lollipops ($10ish), the torpedo shrimp ($9ish but remember we were there for happy hour) and then shared the Chipotle Chicken Sandwich with Avocado ($11ish). It was plenty of food for the both of us and I really thought everything was very good. The house red was nothing to shake a stick at either (and three glasses later it was even better). I loved the look of the place. Dark wood and plenty of seating without feeling like you're bumping into one another. Located on the corner of Argyle and Prince it's looks to be an awesome place to hang out especially on the patio during the summer. If you go let me know how the grilled cheese sandwich is.

The staff here are chipper, genuine, and on the ball as well. For vegans the frites are THE BEST FRIES IN THE CITY. HANDS DOWN. Those long, skinny, salty sticks of deliciousness would grace my palate thrice weekly in my own personal foodie heaven. Also, the spinach salad with the pecans, mango, and ginger soy dressing will not disappoint. It is flavourful and filling, and I would bet that it's also gluten free ! Bonus points :D I always ask how the other dishes are when I hear someone has recently gone to The Carleton. I have heard nothing but enthusiastic reviews of the other more carnivorous dishes they offer. The best part at The Carleton is truly the music. Everyone is politely denied the use of their chatterboxes while the performer(s) are doing their thing. This way everyone wins, we are all graced with auditory perfection and love it all the more. Heck, there are even great speakers in the bathrooms so if you have to visit in the middle of a show you won't miss a beat! Genius! I appreciate how particular The Carlton is when they choose their musical performers. It seems clear that anyone who graces that beautiful stage is the cream of the crop. I love buying random tickets for artists I have never heard of before because it always blows my mind and I walk away at the end of the evening with a new favourite! All in all, if you haven't gone- GO. If you're humming and hawwing about going again- YOU'RE SILLY. Just buy the ticket and dedicate yourself to an awesome evening at The Carleton!
