It's been awhile since I've visited, which is less about World Market and more about me not being in the middle of updating the house. I thought it'd be fun to check out their food and candy options for stocking stuffers. After seeing the options and high prices, I scratched that idea. We noticed price increases for other small items that can be found at other stores, on average $2-3 more per item. World Market will stay in my rotation for furniture and home decor. I especially like their couches, chairs, and seasonal items. Rewards program is available to give you credit for ongoing purchases. Large parking lot is shared with a variety of businesses. Excluding the holidays, it is easy to find a space near the entrance. read more

Join the free rewards program and watch for promotions, they often do 10% off if you pay buy online and pick up in store. Looks like I haven't written a review of World Market since COVID times, so it's time for an update! I go to World Market at least once a year around the holidays to stock up on stocking stuffers especially. The food section has so many fun finds from around the world. My family's favorites include the chocolate McVitie's digestive cookies (weird name but so good), cans of tin fish, hot sauces, pasta noodles and sauces and fun candy, like the jelly candy that looks like hot dogs and pizza. The prices are usually pretty cheap, and I can find something for everyone. My mother and sister have recently started loving World Market too, so it's been fun to see it through their eyes. My mom likes the few racks of clothes, jewelry and the art. My sister likes their kitchen and dining selection. The prices for their home goods are pretty fair as well. Definitely worth a perusal. On my most recent trips, I also found myself spending time in the holiday section, buying a couple miniature houses that I will proudly put out each year. Whether you're looking for something in particular or just a fun place to shop, definitely go here. And also sign up for their text alerts for some good deals! read more

I get in this store and easily spend too much money, buying things that I didn't even know that I needed. There is such an eclectic assortment of guilty pleasures from which to choose! There are the typical basketry of all sizes and shapes, candles, soaps, knickknacks and novelties, but also some very unique food, coffees, teas, condiments, spices, and groceries. I found some sugar-free syrups that I have been ordering online and having to pay shipping! There was a large cooking section with a gadget for any need. This is certainly the place to find the perfect gift for anyone or any occasion. I was super impressed with the cleanliness and organization of the store and with the associates. When the line for checkout began to get greater than 3 deep, an extra associate was quickly called to the registers. Every associate with whom I interacted was super nice and helpful. The store is located in the Shelbyville Road Plaza so parking is plentiful. The World Market Website states that the goods sold are handmade from around the world. That is likely true for many of the items, but I did see a great deal of mass-produced items too. My wife and I purchased discounted low carb coffee flavorings, olive oil and a cold brew coffee apparatus. The staff were prompt, courteous and observed all COVID mandated guidelines. The store is located in a busy mall area off of Shelbyville road in the St. Matthews area of Louisville. Getting into and out of this destination is a challenge but worth it. read more

Cost Plus is a bit of a guilty pleasure when it comes to buying unique items and food items. Despite being located in a very over crowded shopping plaza, this is just a nice place to come and browse all the aisles. COVID precautions are in full effect and there is even curbside delivery that is offered during this time. My favorite spot to browse is the food item sections. I love the candies and chocolates native to where they are coming from. I was highly satisfied with my choice of a lemon drizzle Kit Kat. The trinkets are also another plus to this awesome store. The items are very unique and all the gadgets are fun to check out and attempt to use. If in the area, I definitely recommend checking it out and browsing. read more

The hardest part of visiting Word Market...is getting out without maxing out my credit card! The thing I hate about this particular World Market is it's location. I mean, naturally, a store like this will be near the mall(s) in any given city or town. But Shelbyville Road is a mess. I hate driving out there. This last weekend the right hand lane on that side of the street was moving slower than the people walking on the sidewalk! But....such is the nature of the beast! Everything here is just so cute! There are unique and lovely furniture pieces, fun art, rugs and pillows and kitchenware. Oh my! There are also fun and interesting food stuffs from unfamiliar places! And there is a small attached wine and beer store. I love looking for something new to try. It is a joy to walk around and explore and decorate my home in my head. Somethings are affordably priced and somethings are still pretty pricey. But I do really think there is something for everyone here. The store is clean and well organized and you can certainly find what you are looking for (and many things you aren't looking for but suddenly want!) I will absolutely be back. I don't go to World Market for the furniture. I go for the weird food, spices, snacks, cookies, coffees, coffee add ins, teas, condiments, beer, specialty drinks, sauces, etc. stuff that I have only seen in European groceries. But this last trip, I got trapped in the kitchen supplies. If you like to cook, you need to check this place out before you order from Sur La Table (which is not a dig - most my knives and cookware are from them). And the staff are exceedingly kind and helpful. So spread the love! And I'm sure the furniture is great. read more

My mom and I came to look for a matching rug and throw pillows. They didn't have it in stock. We walked around a found some neat things. But check out was a bit of a mess. One person on the register and she was there when we walked in, then she left without someone else ready to jump in. Then a young woman from the wine came over and jumped on a register. I love this place! I especially love their kitchen collection. There is always something new to discover in this store, even for my overstuffed foodie kitchen. Today I found this ridiculous-yet-useful Pizza Scissor Server. Yes, it is a huge pair of scissors that has a server attached to them. You can slice and serve with one swoop. You must check out my picture to see its silly ingenuity. Then there is the Mugly: ugly sweater for your mugs. I also found this pomegranate seeder. Has anyone ever found a good way to separate the jewels from a pomegranate without sacrificing lots of juice? World Market has the answer! And if you need a paella pan, this is also the place. World Market also has a collection of beautiful handmade jewelry that looks like they came straight out of pages of Sundance Catalog...but at a fraction of the cost...like 10%. (I understand that Sundance says they pay their artisans a fair wage...but I have trouble believing the huge difference.) I practiced self control and only bought 2 pairs of earrings...this time. World Market also has a vast world foods section plus coffee and teas. If you are making a gourmet basket as a gift, this is the best place for it. I am also a fan of their furniture. The selection is not unlike that of Pier 1. But I am a bigger fan of WM than Pier 1. It is just so much brighter and less claustrophobic in here. read more

I had never thought about purchasing a couch or kitchen table from this fun and kitschy place, however when I first started looking at their furniture selection, even in store, they have so many great pieces. I've always enjoyed World Market. The store is very neatly organized without feeling over crowded with stuff, stuff, and too much stuff. In other words, I always feel like I can take my time strolling the store and not feel like I've missed anything that I might want to add to the purchase balance. I especially enjoy their wine selection and food section. WM got me attached to an organic wine that they no longer carry. Oh well...that's alright. Each new wine I've tried I've enjoyed and that's because their staff have always been confidently knowledgeable of their "around the world" selection. I ask a question and their answer always rolls off their tongue without hesitation. From taste to finish to heaviness to comparisons based on my preferences. They promote great sales for members where if you buy 4 bottles of wine you get 20% off. That turned out to be a free bottle for me. I've not tried any of the wines - the sales lady recommended all of them based on my taste preference. Risky approach, but based on my previous experience (from Atlanta to Houston) with having positive outcomes / recommendations I'm willing to take the chance. Foods, spices, teas, coffees, and candy are always a joy to peruse. You can easily find familiars and newbies. And believe me when I say it's highly likely you'll be satisfied with trying a newbie. I purchased Lemon Snap cookies (nicely displayed next to Ginger Snaps) the other day and oh boy...they are really, really tasty. I'd also like to add the quality packaging. The packaging is thick and tightly sealed to help keep my lemon cookies fresh. The purpose of my visit was to purchase a laptop table. I searched online high and low and finally came across WM. Of all places I visited online WM had the widest selection. It was greatly priced with a 10% discount. It had to be assembled, which took me approximately 30 minutes. It was not a difficult task, but I did have to unassemble and then reassemble because I didn't do a couple of things correctly, even with me reading and following the directions. I should have known myself better, as I usually do better if I read the instructions backwards. In other words, seeing how the end product looks and working my way to the beginning is how I roll sometimes. I'm happily satisfied with my purchase. The table is very sturdy, solid, and guess what??....it doesn't wobble! It's got great weight to it, so it feels far from cheap. If you are looking for unique accent pieces it is certainly worth a stop to see the wide variety that World Market offers. They usually have several shelves in the front of the store with discounted items to peruse. I like visiting this place during holidays. It's such a cute store, with lots of little ideas for gifts or a sweet tooth. They have a little of everything such as International inspirations, candy treats, kitchen gadgets, holiday decorations, coffee/tea, clothing, alcohol beverages, great gift ideas, essential body oils/soaps/lotions, and furniture. This time I left with several of items I wasn't expecting to buy. A mini box of fresh honeycomb was to hard to resist. I just had to try for the first time. Some rose facial mist and natural bar soaps were a must. They smelled so good I couldn't resist. Last, I don't think you can leave this place without grabbing a German inspired treat. Shopping at World Market is always fun. I love the international food section, they have great gift cards, unique jewelry and a big selection of other items for the home. Many of their prices seem reasonable to me while others are out of reach. This Christmas I snagged some cute reminders of Paris for my mother's Christmas stocking and tried out a new spread which you oughta try out (Artichoke Bruschetta). My boyfriend has purchased some outdoor rugs here that are bright and cheerful. He also loves their reasonably priced wine selection. His favorite is an imported red from Italy (pictured below). Pier 1 still has a better glassware selection and I'll never stop shopping at my fair trade store (Just Creations) but this is a good addition to the world market scene. read more

Next time you stroll into World Market, don't forget to checkout their wine store. I did today and found a very nice selection of wine. But what really struck me was meeting resident sommelier Reece. She was so pleasant and obviously passionate about her love of wine. She's worked their for eight years and has tried just about every wine they sell. I was intrigued by a wine Reece recommended. A Malbec Rose from Mendoza, Argentina. I had never even heard of the existence of a Malbec Rose. Argentinian Malbec is one of my favorite red wines but didn't know there was a Rose variety. I love kitsch. This is kitsch heaven. Cost Plus World Market is my go to for hard-to-find candy and booze from my childhood (I grew up in Germany, they carry the wine from my Grandparent's vineyard). They also have some really neat trinkets and kitsch, also acceptable furniture. I have gotten a few good chairs, special dishes and kitchen equipment, and stationery supplies at CPWM. I don't go there looking for something specific and leave cross that I haven't found exactly what I wanted. I almost always find what I need there but I also have a clear expectation of what to expect. What I like about this location, opposed to other locations of the same company, is the Louisville store is staffed by friendly people but it's hard to find someone to help you sometimes. I would spend more money here if I could find someone to check a price or explain something more often. I've been looking for a lamp for weeks (as an example) but I don't like hiring bounty hunters to find store employees. read more

Cost Plus is one of those places that people with expendable free time and significant dedication to making a home all homey spend a lot of time. There are a gazillion little odds and ends in there that would make a house very inviting. It's a shame that I prefer it when people don't drop by to settle into a cozy recliner with a soft wool throw from Mexico and Belgian hot chocolate. I live out in the middle of nowhere for a reason. The guy who answered the phone when I called wouldn't help and told me to just return it. So now I get that hassle. They had my information and could have contacted me to avoid this whole thing. So many different interesting and beautiful outdoor/indoor furniture, art, tea/coffee pots, kitchenware, bed/bath items, food/drink, clothes, jewelry, and gift items inspired from the wonderful designs from around the world. Only thing I don't love about the store are some of the prices are too expensive for why you're getting. Especially if it's a craft project I can easily make at home. World Market is unique. It has some cool things that are a bit over priced. To me- it can either be a 5 star experience or a 1 star experience so I averaged it and gave it a 3. If you are looking for wall decor, an area rug, interesting jewelry, snacks from other countries or a cool lamp, you can most likely find it here. They have a little of everything. Some of it is inexpensive and some of it is crazy expensive. When they have a sale, it's pretty good. You just have to pay attention to their ads or get on the mailing list. While wandering through the food section in the Salt Lake City store, I came upon products ubiquitous to Italy, but just not readily available in Kentucky. Among them, passata which, I'm guessing is unknown to the American palate. In Italy, the market shelves are lined with this tomato product, and it is in every home cook's pantry. There were also pasta shapes that I love, used throughout Italy, but never seen here. One should know there is a science behind pasta shapes relative to the types of sauces used with them. The finds in SLC prompted my visit to the Louisville store. Kentucky is not a bastion of authentic Italian, so to find an array of traditional products made my tummy smile. read more

This chain store tries to capture the essence of a neighborhood marketplace that brings together local merchandise such as food (an amazing collection of shelf stable products), coffees, teas, furniture, textiles, housewares, kitchen items, etc. In the end, they do a pretty good job. I do wish they would go with a more raw decor (either rustic or industrial... brick or metal walls... something with more of an outdoor feel). Prices range from cheap to very expensive. You have to be a good shopper here. For example, the furniture qualify varies. I have sometimes found a higher price on a piece of furniture that was of poor quality. I like WM and I don't. Their dinnerware, cookware and utensils are all made in China and the quality isn't that great. Their furniture is attractive and they have a large selection but again, China made. I have bought a few rugs, made from recycled bottles. They have a "world food" section with unique spices and beverages. WM is good for gifts. Grab a nice gift bag, throw in some hand towels, candles and some unique snacks and BAM happy birthday to your friend! I do like their curtains. This is a neat place to walk through, but I'm not sure how it stays in business... It's one of those "a little bit of everything" places that doesn't have a lot of anything. If you want to find some interesting stuff, you'll certainly find it here. But I didn't really find it anything that was a big enough draw to draw me all the way out here from near downtown. The one thing I was careful to look through was the beer selection. They had a decent beer selection, but it was all common stuff. Their "brews of the world" pack has a bunch of different ones in there, but they are, largely, common ones you can find in any liquor store around. This seems to a be a busy location for World Market! It took us a little while to actually speak with a manager about something we needed, but we did get exactly what we came for. Any question I had was quickly answered by any associate I spoke with, and as usual I of course found a bunch of stuff I didn't know I needed. This location has a huge furniture section compared to other World Markets I have visited, there was some really great stuff there! We had one item that we needed to return, and they handled that as well as you could hope for- very quick and easy returns, very friendly service. read more

World Market is a fun store with interesting furniture, international foods, and tchotchkes of all types. It isn't a place to find a bargain though. The prices are generally quite high. I have a love hate relationship with World Market. I like the furniture they sell, but it always strikes me as overpriced. They have knick knacks which some seem cheap and some seem not that bad. They have international food, but most of what appeals to me is the candy as it is all processed and packaged.
