I grew in Windsor, and visit my parents frequently from Dallas, and this gym continues to be a real treat for me and my wife when we stay in Healdsburg. There are not a lot of options for temporary passes, and most of the gyms in Santa Rosa are more Pilates type gyms, but this gym is a true old school weight lifting gym with great machines you cannot find at many places. The staff is always accommodating, and they genuinely care that we want to stay fit when we visit and are not concerned about gauging us for wanting to workout for the week. Small but MIGHTY! ONLY marking it down from five stars based on price point. (more on that in a moment.) Otherwise I loved this place. Caveats to this review: I have been a competitive bodybuilder, a competitive strength athlete, AND a coach of competitors over 30+ years of lifting. This is not a "flex," but mentioning it because OBVIOUSLY colors my perspective. Worth mentioning up front. Also: I was only in town for a quick weekend, coming in from across the country (Boston) for a wedding. I was just a day visitor to the gym. My experience may not be the common one of members. I didn't like that it was hard to get in. I went at a "normal time," so the front desk kid was able to pop over to the door and open it, but still a mildly off-putting experience. I understood the reasoning; the availability of 24 hour access. But with a kid at the desk would it hurt to have the door unlocked during the hours the gym is staffed...? The space seems friendly to both "general fitness" types and heavy lifters alike. Indeed, the dumbbells went up to 150 (as single that this space encourages aspiration and hard work), and there were a few lifting cages (not just racks). Definitely a space that is focused on either weight training or athletic cross training, with an equipment array that isn't trying to coddle or under-estimate it's patrons. One thing I LOVED was that the dumbbells had HALF WEIGHT INCREMENTS well into the higher values. You almost never see this any more! Need a step between between 80 lbs and 85 lbs? They got you covered. This is such a logical feature that not only welcomes advanced lifters, but also allows beginners and intermediate to really make gradual progress - which is both safer and more sensible. Bravo on this one aspect. I like how the "cardio equipment" (ugh - just go outside people!) was NOT the dominant presence. Indeed, maybe 1/5th or less of the floor space was two humble rows of cardio. No - this is not meant to be a place where you zombie out on a stepper. Again, bravo. I liked the division of space overall, but it was a little quirky having the dumbbells placed so far away from the barbells and other weight equipment. A minor flaw, easily overlooked. Likewise, the front foyer was strangely disproportionate and included tons of unused space. That felt weird. Meh - again, easily overlooked. I appreciated the locker room for it's sparsity and functional purpose. It is NOT LUXURIOUS - in a GOOD way. Clean, for sure. But apart from a quick shower and change, the locker room is here for a function, not for luxury; you have a trustworthy clean shower and space to change, but this is not a spa. Heck, the shower stalls are old school bays with no curtains; modesty be damned; this is about function and efficiency. And it works. VERY well. High marks. One simple litmus test for "whether a gym is a good gym for serious lifters" is this: "Clutter that is not confusion." What this means is that, in a place where people are busy at work, there will always be a bit of expected clutter. Not UNTIDINESS; not confusion. Just bits and pieces all throughout the gym space; various handles, different pieces of equipment, odds and ends - all revealing that the space is where people get to work, not where they "idle away on a chore." The "organized clutter" of a gym is an ASSET, not a glitch. Clutter without confusion. The space had lots of options; from athletic training equipment to traditional weightligfting. Now, I think $30 for a day pass is absurd. I understand it is encouraging membership, and understand Healdsburg is no stranger to wealthy out-of-towners. But come on . . . $30 for an hour or so? One star down. Be more price welcoming. Kid behind the desk was a bit flaky, but not off-putting. Friendly enough, but like, slow and distracted. But just a kid being a kid. Not sure about any other staff. Gym vibe did not smack of camaraderie, but rather people in their own space. That is either an asset or a deficit depending on your preference of gym energy. It was not cranky in any way, but definitely not, like, warm and cheery. Neutral to reserved would be the way tom classify the vibe. DEFINITELY some serious physiques roll through. THAT was obvious even on my short visit. Big muscles and powerful strength is welcome here - and clearly encouraged. I appreciated that. As what some would label a "serious lifter" I would eagerly go here again - my only hesitancy being that obnoxious and unnecessary day rate. Looking at other reviews, I have a feeling price gouging is pretty normal. read more

My friend and I were thrilled to have found this great gym while visiting. Ideal for us who are used to hard core workout facilities with every imaginable weight and cardio equipment. Joe the owner was so gracious to meet us early in the morning on Easter Sunday prior to our departure to let us in for a morning workout. We are grateful for his hospitality. read more

When they went 24 hours seemed like a cool idea. Cool for them. They cut staff, and you can not take a shower on the week-ends unless you get there by 2:00. I thought it was a value when I first started, but when you look it over all it really isn't. Amenities are not there and the cheap price does NOT make up for it. I have a year membership, I will definitely drop at the end of my year/contract and head back to Parkpoint. P.S. the place is also run down,every aspect from the bathrooms to the outside needs repair, painting or some sort of an improvement. Machines also need a good cleaning. read more

I live in Healdsburg but I'm not a member at World Gym as I've been a long time member of another local club. With the recent fires, my gym was closed and World was open. The welcomed me in free of charge, as they did with other locals. While a workout is insignificant compared to what's been going on in the area, it was soooo helpful in keeping me from climbing the walls or breaking down in tears. World is new to the area, but gracious gestures like this make me think they're just right for our community. It was a small gift that made all the difference in a hard day. Thank you to the owners. World gym huh? Walked in and NOBODY at the front desk for 5 mins so I proceeded to walk in and stretch. Aftewent back up to the front desk to find out someone was there! I asked them about current promotions and specials. She was Not very kind or friendly. The current deal there running is $55 a month and half of the initiation fee. I thought $104 was pretty expensive to start working. Other gyms are running specials for $10. So I thought about it and decided I actually would pay the $55 dollars a month if they would drop the Initiation fee. I guess Maybe your business is doing so well you don't need new customers.?? Whatever I won't be back , and I sure in hell wouldn't recommend them. Now you the owner probably sitting back thinking on how to respond to this to make you business look better. I'd rather drive outta town to go back to this place . read more

I am absolutely disgusted with this gym. They employ an incredible trainer and honestly he is the only reason I am a member there. I pay the $55 fee for a membership along with a $55 fee extra to take this trainers class. WGH has decided that they are upping the class fee so that it is $29.95 a week which totals to a membership cost of $175. This by the way, is starting in just 3 weeks and they haven't said anything to the people who take the class. Extremely shady and scummy thing to do. Not that they will care, but they've lost at least one member over this. I don't care to give any money to people who care more about a building renovation than the humans they employ or people who pay their hard earned money to fund their lifestyle. I got a yelp account because I wanted to make sure this gym knew how I felt about it. I've never had a gym be so perfect for me... sure everyone has their preferences and "requirements" for what makes a gym good, and sure not every gym will fit everyone. But that's the thing. If you don't like the gym, don't go. I hate seeing this hateful reviews that aren't anywhere close to constructive criticism but a way to bash a wonderful family owned business. If you're going to leave a comment that isn't 5 stars make it something the business can benefit from. Not just an excuse to hide behind a keyboard and degrade the owners. I personally find the gym to be perfect for my needs.. which are to lift and get my workout done! I don't need hand towels, sanitary wipes in the bathroom. I don't need incense all over the gym to calm my "chi" whatever that is. I don't need purified "organic" ridiculous water at my beck and call. If you're really serious about your health, all you need are the weights. Beaten up or brand new they still provide the same thing. We're at the gym for the same reason. Don't be stuck up about it. Just go there and get your sh** done and move on with your day! :) stay positive. stay happy. The employee's attitudes are amazing as well. I truly find the owners to be involved in their gym and their clients. Joe is always up for a conversation and Pinot is there to put a smile on your face. I am very impressed with how their own manager Bianca is at the gym cleaning the bathrooms as well, not only do their employees work the desk, the phones, the emails and all the crazy and over the top complaints that the clients have- they are on their hands and knees cleaning and making the gym what it is.
