She asked me to explain again for second time. And I did. She try to brush me away on the phone while I try to explain to her. Next female answer the phone. I asked to speak to a manager. She told me there no manager around. In my head what kind of business that dont have any manager around to run the business. She asked if I can leave my name and phone numbers. So I did. My sister got an expensive cream there and she said that it did not help her after her injury at work. She said it was very expensive because insurance did not cover. Seems like someone also mentioned that on one of the reviews regarding the efficacy of this cream. The office looks fine, but what is the use if they are not helping their patients get better? If you need a work comp doctor, this is not the one I would recommend!!! Without even knowing the extent of my injuries, all they care about is sending me back to work. Do your homework!! Very suspicious. After looking over my My chart (notes from PA) I discovered that there was concerns I notified my PA about that was not charted. Increasing pain in different parts of my back, again not charted. WHY? I wish I could tell you. I'm not sure why someone who is supposed to looking out for your best interest would force you back to work with severe pain and would not afford you medication to help control your pain. Long story short, my new doctor immediately pulled me out of work and could not believe anyone, especially a doctor (actually a PA) would send me back to work in the condition I was in. 2 MRI's clearly show issues that is causing all my pain. It just does NOT make any sense!! very suspicious of what is really going on behind close doors. I just can't believe what happened to me and will never understand why. Trust me! Trash. Completely unprofessional, rude, and shameful. Anela, Ricky, and the supervisor (Maria?) mishandled my account and made me jump through hoops for 2 weeks back and forth with the claims adjustor for no good reason. I finally got them the remaining coverage balance of which they said they needed to schedule me for treatment, and was threatened to take me off the schedule if it was not produced (I emailed it to them 5 days ago). Upon receipt of the email their support team thanked me and told me the email would be sent to billing immediately. I was initially told they just needed to know the claim was still open, of which the claims adjuster and I both informed them it was. I even emailed them documents proving this, but then that wasn't good enough for them so they made me jump through more hoops. I was met with another nasty and deranged individual 3 days ago of whom told me I could either take this company or leave it, and I told her how dare she speak to someone like that (especially after what they've already put me through). The insurance adjuster actually told me it was a HIPPA violation for them to ask me for the remaining balance. The two snarling dragons Anela and Maria told me on a 3 way call (of which I recorded) that they did finally find the email and that they would be taking me off the schedule and that I should find another provider because they didn't like my attitude. Neither offered an apology for anything and sat there like 2 warped minded, arrogant, filthy, and disgusting pigs until I hung up on them. I was seen by Physician Assistant, Kaylyn Cooper who was pleasant and knowledgeable about my pain. She prescribed medicine that was supposed to be called in to a Walgreens in my area, however, it was not. I called the Honolulu office 4 times only to get the call center? Apparently they pass on your messages to the office but I've had one call back telling me that Kaylyn Cooper is not in the office. I never got a call back again. It has been 2 days that I did not receive a call back and still waiting on my medicine! Very frustrating. I don't like their new call system. Instead of the office staff answering the phone, they out sourced to an answering service. I needed info on my meds at the time. I do not recommend Workstar. read more

Woman would not identify herself when Asked and confronted me several times when I was not Wearing a mask outside... After the emergency restrictions were lifted for wearing masks...for over A Year (no,I'm not joking). And because of my questioning of the authority of her statements she harassed the Practice manager (which i didn't know was a thin) to discharge me from their services and filed a false statement in my medical record. I am beyond disappointed. I just don't know if my disappointment lies with WorkStar and their incompetent employees, or if it's with myself for believing they were competent enough to fulfill my needs, even after it took 16 days of me making contact via email and phone call for them to even schedule the consultation.. I did an online inquiry back in March. On March 31st, Asha emailed me to confirm a few basic details (insurance, plus a few questions I had), and she let me know that once my prior x-ray images were faxed to them from my PCP, and once my information was reviewed, I would be paired with a provider at their facility and scheduled for my consultation. As of April 5th, Asha stated she only had 1 page of my medical records from my PCP, and then on April 18th she stated that she has reached out to my PCP medical records dept multiple times with no success. I called my PCP myself the week prior to the 18th and they notified me that everything had already been sent over. Asha confirmed that another employee had my paperwork and that I would receive a call in a few days to be scheduled with a provider paired to me. I emailed Asha again on April 26th asking if I would be scheduled soon and I got no response at all. I had to call their office before even getting on the schedule. That alone should have been a red flag. Mandee (who I just found out no longer is employed at WorkStar), got me on the schedule and to save time I emailed her my Expiration of Benefits letter from my motor vehicle insurance so they could skip straight to billing my medical insurance. I have physically printed and turned in that same letter an additional 2 times, yet the billing department had no idea that my medical insurance was supposed to be billed, even though I've notified the office both over the phone and in person, a combined total of 7 times. I assumed by my numerous attempts, that it was finally handled. I continued to attend my appointments, which after the second visit I didn't even want to. I was paired with Dr. Nguyen while she was beyond kind and helpful in getting me the proper treatment I needed, she is beyond unprofessional. For some reason, she thought it was acceptable to trail off for 10-15 minutes at almost every visit and tell me information that no medical provider should be telling their patients. The first time she did this, she told me that she didn't even really want to work there because it wasn't worth it, but that she goes because she loves some of her patients. The second time, she told me I may get paired with a new provider because she was considering quitting because WorkStar has not paid her in over 4 months. Then the third time, she was talking about how I was such a good mom because I revolve a lot of my treatment plan around my daughter, and she told me about her childhood and how her mother would call her names such as a bitch and to "suck it up" whenever a situation arose. I feel empathetic for her situation, but it is ridiculously unprofessional that she would take up over half of my appointments to discuss this with me. I'm just a patient, I don't need to know that information. She also kept trying to get me to take a certain medication that had dizziness and drowsiness as a side effect, which I told her I couldn't have since I do have a toddler at home. Back to the billing issue, the most recent two times I called to notify them of this was August 16th, and August 24th. On the 16th, I was assured that billing would be notified immediately after the phone call, yet on August 23rd, I got a letter in the mail from my motor vehicle insurance denying coverage to my appointments, confirming that the front office yet again failed to do their job on the 16th of notifying their billing department of the proper insurance to send the bill to. I made a phone call to WorkStar on August 24th, and I spoke to 3 different people. Brandi ever so kindly helped me speak to the appropriate people. Unfortunately I didn't get the name of the woman in billing that I spoke to, I sure wish I did because she was beyond short with me and couldn't even answer anything I asked her. She transferred me to someone else, and that person didn't answer. I called again and got Brandi again, and she took down my contact info and within minutes I received a call from Laurie and she was the sweetest person to help me by far. She confirmed that Mandee was no longer with WorkStar but that this all stemmed from her not notifying the billing department to not bill my motor vehicle insurance. She assured me that she would personally get this handled, and I sure hope that it does get properly handled. I asked her to cancel my upcoming appointment and that I will no longer be seeking medical care with them, and I also asked for a call to be notified of when they do in fact send the bill to my medical insurance. I really hope the proper authorities get this place under control. Right now it's not a safe place for patients. read more

Located at the new Queen's Medical Center West Oahu. There is a sign posted on the exterior of the building, as soon as you go up the small stair case and go through the entrance of the building, they are the first office on the right. It's so smart that they are located at the front of the building especially being most of their patients will have a physical injury and not very mobile. They are also very easy to find and have a sign on the exterior of the building. The parking is pretty far away for someone to walk from with an injury, so they do have a large drop off zone right in the front, and a wheel chair ramp. I also noticed a bus stop right at the drop off zone. There are lots of chairs in the lobby, lots of workers at the reception desk, super helpful and they all tend to the patients as they walk in, someone was always available to help. They greeted me took my info, and gave me a clipboard full of paperwork to complete which took me FOREVER! So much information! I had to complete it after my appointment because the doctor was ready for me, waited so briefly after checking in. Margaret A. Irish, DO was my physician for my first visit there. I apparently got an injury at work, and got my large toenail detached from moving a large item. This was a workers comp claim and needed to follow up after a visit to the ER. My usual doctor suggested I visit Work Star for this particular workers comp claim, and I am glad I did! Dr. Irish is FANTASTIC!!!!!!! she is very knowledgable and able to answer my questions that made me feel very comfortable. She also gave me some co-lastic which is a band-aid that sticks to itself and not on my wound. She spoke with me even on a personal level and made me feel so special. After my appointment, My mister and I went upstairs to the 5th floor to eat at their new cafeteria. Dr. Irish remembered us asking the receptionist where the cafeteria was, and she came to look for us because she forget to advise me on one other thing and discussed it with me in the cafeteria. EVERYONE! at Work Star is so welcoming, extremely nice, helpful and professional. No one ever likes to go to the doctors, and in this case, they made me leave with a smile. read more

I am a patient, or was, at Workstar for pain management due to chronic back pain. Last week we had torrential downpours and my bag (which held my medications) got wet. While trying to dry the bottle in my bathroom I accidentally dropped them in the toilet. Being a reasonable and prudent person, I elected to throw them away. I contacted Workstar 2 days later to have the medication replaced as I was suffering excruciating pain and withdrawal symptoms. I was told I'd have to wait until Monday (3 days later) to discuss with my provider. Come Monday I was called and told I would have to wait until today (Wednesday) for an appointment. During the appointment with the PA-C I was told not only that they would not replace the remaining 8 days of my medication but that they also couldn't offer anything for the symptoms of withdrawal. Mind you, sudden withdrawal from Opioids is dangerous and results in a wide array of other symptoms, including but not limited to; nausea, vomiting, racing heart beat, diarrhea, body aches, anxiety and insomnia. I have a heart condition that already causes a significant arrhythmia and extra heart beats and a separate GI issue that limits my options for pain management via NSAIDs. So in essence, this office told me tough cookies, deal with it and may the odds be ever in your favor. Given what we know about the effects of sudden withdrawal from opioid medications and my health history, not to recognize this and to act on it is a dereliction of duty. I work in health care and know many providers that can offer a much better standard of care, feel free to comment or message me before choosing Workstar. read more

I was referred to Workstar, but felt hesitant about driving all the way out to Ewa Beach for treatment. I was pleasantly surprised, driving onto the Queens West campus! Security at the front gate was pleasant, helpful and friendly. There was plenty of parking available. I quickly found Workstar on the ground floor, just inside the entry, as I had been advised. I suffer through and will always live with a multitude of ailments. When the pain I experience was too much, my RA Doctor (Dr. Daral Ambrocia) referred me to this Work*Star Office. Therein, I was met by PA Eva. Aside from being a goddess in many ways, she's the one professional whom I would personally recommend to all who are in pain and need immediate help. Thorough to every aspect of what the underlying cause(s) are for the pain. I have been through the seemingly endless gauntlet of x rays, MRI's, needles all over, and many sessions with a PT specialist. I have covered the range of pain medication from OTC Tylenol on to Vicodin, Percocet, Morphine, and Nucynta. We have come to the point that I'm able to tell how bad my pain is and adjust which medication I will take on that day. Very educational, professional, and kind with an ear (or two) which actually listens!! read more

I was referred here by my attorney after being refused to be seen by a multitude of other physicians because of third party liability insurance coverage. Let me tell you that I do not wish this type of misfortune upon anyone. Upon my first visit I was treated with concern and care. Not like I was trying to pull a scam or anything like that. (If you know my situation you know I'm not) The initial review was quick, diagnostic tests were performed and a conclusion quickly drawn. Initially I was sent to PT, Until the tests revealed just how serious the injury was. I was immediately removed from PT until they could refer me to a surgeon... Then the disaster of TPL reared its ugly head yet again. Doctors do not want to get involved in TPL cases because they may get called into court. Finally a surgeon that was willing to see me was located. Then the next roadblock.. HMSA! DENYING the procedure!... Saying they don't have enough information... Hello folks, you oversee my medical coverage, you should have access to everything you need! This finally gets squared away and we are back on track... No doubt without the help of the staff here I'd be at wits end. 2 MRI's, 2 CAT scans, I lost count of the number of X-rays, but I'm sure I'll glow in the dark soon. I had a work injury and it took me forever to find someplace that will treat workmen comp patients. A big thank you to Kim (Nurse Practitioner) and Dr Tang for taking care of me. They are currently helping me recover and hopefully return to work as soon as I can. They have arranged physical therapy and massage and made recommendations to help me with my back pain. I am very pleased to have found this office. The front staff girls are very sweet. As a new patient, there is a lot of paperwork to fill out of course, but all my visits thereafter have been easy. I have never waited more than 5 minutes in the waiting room to get to see Kim or Dr Tang. They are very professional and knowledgeable in their fields. This office is located at the old St Francis West turned HMC West which will be the new QMC West. Parking is free. Tons of chickens and roosters running around the parking lot, just need to drive slow. read more

Hurt my shoulder at work and my doctor won't touch Workers Comp. ER gave my pain meds but I needed it repaired, so I went to Workstar (waited over an hour, though to be fair, I was a walk-in appointment). The waiting room was pretty full. I was seen by Terri Pacheco, who is a family nurse practitioner. I later looked up what a FNP is and found in the HRS that they can both treat and prescribe meds in Hawaii (she looks a bit young for that). Anyway, after a few minutes, she had a pretty good idea about what was going on. After a (very) quick consult with Dr. Brenner they said I needed a MRI. I asked about meds to manage my pain. Terri told me that pain is the body telling you something is wrong so you need to take it easy and that meds cover this up and might make me think I can do things that might cause more damage. She prescribed me meds but but less than the ER, which worried me although she added therapy, but I left worried I might not manage the pain until my next visit in 2 weeks. It was rough, though I hurt less by my next visit, but I made it a point to ask for more meds to help. She told me something that stuck with me: she said her goal was to get me better as fast as possible, not to cover up my pain and make me into a drug addict, since both of those would prolong my condition. I didn't take that too well--when you're worried about hurting, you get pretty desperate to be able to stop the pain. But I figured she knew what she was talking about, so I gave it a shot. read more

I've been going to Workstar for a while now and I must say, I have nothing but praise and thanksgivings for this place. In 2013, I was diagnosed with a neurological condition and through Workstar, I was also able to learn that my chronic back and neck issues were because I have arthritis up and down my spine and neck. This causes me excruciatingly painful episodes where I have blacked out at times. In 2016, I was referred to Workstar Occupational Therapy to help me with my conditions. And then this past March, I left my job of 9 years because I could no longer drive due to my condition. With no health insurance and no help from MedQuest (State of Hawaii run insurance program) nor from the State's unemployment office, I feared the worst and prepared myself for the let down from everything I'd worked so hard for. And then, one day, soon after leaving my job, I walk in for my appointment and met with someone that I like to refer to as my guardian angel here on earth. Her name is Terri Pacheco. I must tell you, this woman has been a God send for me. She's very patient and kind, caring and compassionate. When I told her about my situation, she looked at me and said "don't worry, I'm here to help...." and proceeded to put me in touch with the billing department and set up a plan for me to be able to afford the doctors visits. If it wasn't for Terri, I honestly don't know where I would be today. She's helped me tremendously with getting my MRI's, CT scans and even helped guide me to the various departments for MedQuest and beyond. I can't tell you enough of how much Terri is an asset to this place. I've read other reviews which complain about the long waits but I can tell you that those extraordinarily long wait times are isolated situations. Yes, I've had to wait before for my appointments but I've never waited beyond 30 minutes and understand it's because Terri cares and works hard to address everyone's concerns and issues they're facing. In today's world of hustle and bustle, people treating customers like they're just another number, Terri is a breath of fresh air and the hope given to each person. Dr. Brenner is also an asset to Workstar and in my opinion, this place would truly be at a disadvantage if they were to lose either of these angels. Mahalo Workstar! You've done an OUTSTANDING job at hiring the right people for the job. Not only because she brings our clinic goodies and treats every time she visits us here at KUC but her personality and attitude is always so positive. Workstar is very lucky to have her! Dr Morioka at WorkStar has been my back injury doctor for the last 8 years and I couldn't be any happier with the service I get from him and his staff. I wouldn't be still coming here if I wasn't satisfied. Dr M. is very courteous and sincere. He is very concerned in my rehabilitation and recovery, and has helped me deal with my injury. This office has other doctors for chiropractic services, acupuncture, aqua therapy, physical therapy, sports medicine, and more.
