I joined the location in Kokomo last year around December. This location in Peru has way more…read moreequipment and a lot better layout than the Kokomo location. You'd think it would be the other way around since Peru is a smaller town but that's not the case here. This gym has plenty of selectorized equipment and enough free weights for anyone to get a good workout in. The treadmills are kind of dated I think but maybe that's just me. I've been a member of several different gyms( Worlds, Power shack, YMCA, and I used to sell memberships at California/Lifestyle Family Fitness back In Columbus, OH). This chain is pretty cool in that they don't work on commission so there aren't any high pressured sales tactics like you see at the larger for profit clubs. You don't get the "meat market" vibe that some other larger clubs have. The thing I like best is its open 24 hrs a day and you can go to any location. I dropped in on the Anytime location in Huron OH(had to get my swell on before going to Cedar Point, lol) last June and they had a similar layout with equipment. This chain is geared for people who want to work out but aren't into the whole group fitness thing and there are no kids running around all crazy like you see at some of the YMCA locations. Well placed location off of business 31 and plenty of parking. I got a military discount on my monthly membership which was cool.

I have been to several Anytime Fitness Clubs and this is by far the worst. I used to go to the…read moreLogansport Anytime Fitness, because I lived in Logansport and commuted to Kokomo. Then my fiance and I moved to Carmel, so I went to their club. Both of which are great and I recommend highly. After going to the Kokomo club for several weeks here are my conclusions: The club itself is nice, but the staff is lacking. I workout in the morning everyday, and the trainer/manager apparently thinks that if you did not hire him for training sessions, you are a second class citizen. I have been there repeatedly over the past few months, and the staff has never once said hello, good morning, or anything of the sort. His clients have stations set up for them, and that means that half of the equipment in the gym is taken up. Then after the training sessions are done the stations are usually set up for his own personal use, so good luck if you want to fit in a quick workout before work. I have also observed the trainer be rude to other gym goers. The clearest example was when a piece of equipment was broken. There was no sign on said equipment to indicate it to other gym members. A gym member who wasn't training proceeded to try and use the equipment. The trainer and his client were training next to it, and instead of telling the client who was about to use the broken machine, "Sir, that piece of equipment is broken. We will try to get it fixed as soon as possible. Please in the meantime use other equipment though. My apologies." or something along those lines. The trainer then proceeded to yell at the man using the broken machine, "Machine's broken....Machine's broken." Not realizing that the gym member had ear buds in. He then looked at his client and laughed at the gym member using the broken machine for not listening. Overall I think that the equipment is good, the other patrons are nice, but the staff is what ruined this club for me. There is no reason to go to a place where you feel like you are not welcome unless you hire a trainer. If you live in the Kokomo area and are considering a gym, go somewhere else. At least until a change of management.

After my first month, I feel like I've made large improvements in my grappling ability, cardio, and -frankly- confidence outside of the gym. It takes about a week to get the swing of how practice works and you might not understand how much you're improving at first until you start rolling - which can be within the first couple weeks of consistent attendance and effort. If you're as new to the sport as I am, all you'll need to do is bring a respectful but positive attitude to practice and trust what they're teaching you in class, the tempo and dope submissions will slowly accumulate as you work through the more cornerstone principles they focus on in class. Be ready to sweat, too- it's a great total body workout!
