Hidden Palms Park - Big fall- 8 feet. Design's a joke. Why create this 15inch gap there? There's nothing to grab on to. It seems an intentional flaw.

Question for you. " What is inflation proof?" Answer: the local park…read more Hidden Palms Park is a local park in the triad of Paradise Palms parkd that include Desert Bloom and Duck Creek. Out of the three parks, Hidden Palms focuses more on the immediate area, to the degree of having zero restrooms. The closest ones are at Duck Creek Park to the east and Von's to the north. The lack of restrooms is a nice way of saying that this is a neighborhood park, where local residents are a short drive or walk away from their own restrooms. To further support this point, the small parking lot only provides thirteen parking spaces with an additional two for handicapped park users. Throughout the years, I had driven by Hidden Palms Park several times. However, it was just recently I had stepped foot in it. When I visited, there were a few people. They were mostly by the softball field. The highlight was walking along the approximately half-mile walking path, which took me 5.37 miles to complete. I will describe my walk in conjunction with the park amenities. Starting from the parking lot and the adjacent playground as the starting point, I walked clockwise. Starting off, the walking path led me south, then west around the pickleball courts and softball field #1 before paralleling Pebble Road to the south. Walking further along the sinuous white paved walking path as it gradually shifted north, open green space with mature pine trees bordered it. To the left was the subdivision border wall. To my eyes, the open grass needed some tlc. Instead of a colorful golf course green they were close to a yellow palette. Continuing north, I took in softball field #2. As the walking path shifted away from the subdivision border wall, the open grass returned. As the path curved east, there was a fitness equipment station. Fronting the open space towards the John R. Beatty Elementary School north border wall was a sand volleyball court. At the sharp curve returning me south towards the parking lot, were the tennis courts. Approaching the end of the approximately 0.5 mile walk were the picnic tables and playground. On my Diminutive Outdoors visit here, I simply walked around. This included a short stroll to the north border wall in the shadow of the park landmark: a towerering cellphone tower that resembles a pine tree. Here, I found my favorite spot in the park: a shaded bench overlooking the expanse of the park to the south. I am aware that Hidden Palms is more of a neighborhood park than it is a local or regional park. However, that does not stop me from having the opinion that it would give an improved park experience if it was connected to Duck Creek and Desert Bloom Park by means of a multi use trail. I understand that it would involve the controversy of giving Pebble Road a protected pedestrian bike lane, furnishing Pollock Drive with a road diet (narrowing it from four to two sections) between Pebble and Wigwam, and reimagining Wigwam Avenue into a more pedestrian bicycle friendly corridor between Pallock and Desert Bloom Park. From evaluating Hidden Palms Park, I am of the impression that this would give Paradise Palms a trail system that Hidden Palms Park would anchor. Additionally it would connect park users from outside the neighborhood with a public restroom. In conclusion, I give Hidden Palms Park "3 Stars." Considering that local parks are inflation proof, it costed me zero cents to explore it. With that said, I will most likely return to the nicer nearby Duck Creek Park and Desert Bloom Parks before returning to Hidden Palms Park.

The playground is fine. There is a sidewalk that loops around if your kids want to ride…read morebikes/scooters or you like to jog. The playground is small but hits all the marks. Good slide, things to climb, swings (regular and a tire swing that is SUPER far off the ground), and a toddler playground. No infant swings. There are NO bathrooms which sucks. Especially because there are great tennis courts and a baseball diamond and if you wanted to spend a couple hours here you'd be out of luck. Likewise, if you're on week two of potty training a toddler, you may want to drive somewhere else. Another major design flaw is the benches are all facing AWAY from the playground structures. One bench in particular inexplicably faces the picnic tables. As a nursing mom, having somewhere to sit while I watch my other kiddos play is vital. I'm not sure what the thought process was.

We just had to go pick up some freshly made donuts at the food truck. This park is really nice! The first thing I noticed how clean and well kept the park is. There's a good mix of open grassy areas, walking paths, playgrounds, and sports areas, so it works well whether you're there to relax, walk around! There was a baseball game playing while my husband and I visited the park. There were people out walking dogs and running too! By the time we placed our order at the LV Donut food truck, there was another Hawaiian Poke food truck that had just showed up! This is a great community park where you can take a walk, sit for a while, or let kids play. I'll have to come back in the evenings when the weather cools down a bit during the summer nights!

The main bathrooms are currently being fixed, but I actually appreciated that they put a port-a-potty with a sink in the parking lot instead of just closing everything and leaving people with nothing. That was pretty thoughtful. The park itself is really nice. The grass is well kept, there's a good area for kids to play, and I noticed a lot of older people out walking and exercising which I loved seeing. It felt peaceful and well maintained. I don't live on this side of town, but I'd definitely stop by again if I'm in the area.

Vasoconstriction causes headaches and so far, working out has worked wonders for me. I used the facility for the first time as a guest years ago and was asked to get an ID card just for SRWC since I wasn't a Rebel yet. There was a skin disease outbreak that happened that year so, I stopped going. They got that issue straightened out. Now that I am a Rebel, I get to come here for free, yay! I like the layout of equipments and how seated machines/equipments are red - my favorite color! The little details matter to me. My favorite is the running track since I love running and we don't have one at my regular gym. Please run in the right direction. It's clean, modern and doesn't seem cramped. Cardio machines, ab machines, free weights, basketball courts, pool...whatever exercise equipment needs you have, they got it. Doing both my undergrad and grad years at UNLV, you can bet I've taken full advantage of the student facilities fee tacked onto my tuition. Currently, all students taking a summer class automatically have a membership for all three summer sessions. For the regular semester, 3.5 credits will grant you access to the gym. And man, what a gym! Even through the years, it has remained pristine and increasingly equipped with state of the art machines. The custodians are always cleaning, the staff for the most part is friendly, and if you avoid peak hours, you'll be in and out in no time. Be sure to check out the Rebel X group fitness classes, too! They're free. The gym features 4 floors: cardio room, weights, basketball courts, indoor jogging track. Amongst these floors, you will also find multipurpose courts, indoor pools/spa, locker rooms with showers, Einstein's Bros Bagel and cafe, Rebel Wellness Zone (with massage chairs), dental school office, counseling/psychological services, pharmacy, and the student health center for medical appointments. Best of all, students pay practically nothing.

And on my last trip here, I saw several pigeons with black birds instead of ducks.    From my five Yelp check-ins here, I clearly understand that Duck Creek Park is the sister park of Desert Bloom Park. My pedometer stated that walking from its northwest basketball courts to the southwest Desert Bloom basketball courts, was a 0.44 mile walk by ways of Pollock Drive and Wigwam Avenue. The very close proximity of the two parks causes each one to be a regional and local destination. All five of my visits here,  followed a visit to Desert Bloom Park. On a couple of my visits, I extended the walk by combining it with both Desert Bloom Park, the I-215 East Beltway Trail, and local streets. This created a couple hours long suburban hiking adventures.     Although Duck Creek and Desert Bloom are sister parks, I have noticed some distinctions that differentiate the two. Duck Creek is less busy and more secluded than Desert Bloom. Where Desert Bloom is surrounded by roads on three sides including the busy Maryland Parkway; Duck Creek is surrounded on three sides by backyards. Where most of the open space at Desert Bloom is taken up by baseball diamonds, green grass covers the majority of the open space at Duck Creek.    On the lion's share of my visits here, I started out on the walking trail from the southwest corner of the park, near the Horseshoe and boccee courts, where I walked counterclockwise and ultimately to the same spot. According to my pedometer app, it is a 0.58 mile walk along the perimeter dual walking trail, which features a paved and parallel unpaved trail. This is a stressless flat walk on a slightly weaving dual-trail that travels through a very well maintained park. The golf course green grass, palm trees, pine trees, yucca, and xeroscaping appear healthy and attractive. The paved and unpaved trail are often separated by grass and desert that is interspersed with foliage. Throughout the dual-trail there are benches and picnic areas. The dual-trail is horseshoe shaped. The western segment of what I call the perimeter trail is either the parking lot sidewalk parallel to Pollock Drive or the Pollock Drive sidewalk. The dual-trail carries me to my favorite part of the park, which is the east periphery at the back. This is where a dual-fenced in area buffers the neighboring backyards. From here, looking west standing up or sitting on a shaded picnic table bench, I take in a carpet of green grass leading towards a grove of trees with the distant Red Rock escarpment above. Last time there were several pigeons lounging on the open grass space. This is the quieter side of Duck Creek Park.    The busier side of the park is the western preiphery near the ample parking lot and Pollock Drive. This is where most of the amenities are. Here you will find the restrooms, tennis courts, horseshoe and boccee courts, splash pad, playground, skate park, and large picnic area. In similar fashion to the grass and vegetation, the park equipment is well-maintained. I noticed  zero graffiti or vandalism. Even, the skate park, which attracts teenagers, was free of vandalism. When I complete my perimeter walk, I will continue my walk here. To my eyes, the most picture-worthy spot is the splash pad adorned with towering palm trees and picturesque field of grass in back of it spreading to the surrounding suburbia. I consider the amenities area, the heart of Duck Creek Park. From here I walk along the blood vessels that are the inner paved trails that pass through the open grass landscape to the back of park before making a u-curve and head back to the heart of the park. I will either exit from the northwest or southwest corner onto Pollock Drive.     On all five Yelp check-ins here, I felt safe. Even by the skate park. Duck Creek Park has been active with people playing tennis, picnicking, walking their furbabies, lounging on the grass, bonding with their children at the playground, or doing what I was doing: walking with some breaks. However, I seemed to be the only one taking pictures.    In the future there is a high liklihood that I will return to Duck Creek Park. Most likely it will take place following a walk in its sister park: Desert Bloom Park.
