We were looking for a sport that our son can enjoy and get some exercise not the next Pete Sampras and if he got really good at tennis great that's a plus. You have to train him and work at his speed not yours (an adult who been doing this for a long time). I am all for Boot Camp training style but James berated and verbally abused my son and another kid in the class, he was so mad that he quit on them before the lesson was over. And when I told him to tone it down a little bit, he flipped out, and decided to kick us out of his school, which is fine. The other parents that witnessed this I hope you leave before something, happens to your kids. Definitely stay away from this place. read more

My wife and I have two boys, 9 and 6 that started with TennisWerx 2 years ago. There weren't many coaches of any sport that will take on a 4 year old! Coach James was more than willing and absolutely rose to the challenge. 2 years later and our boys still love coming multiple times a week. James is incredible with teaching these kids in ways that they find engaging, fun, and challenging. He's taught our kids life skills alongside their tennis skills. He doesn't baby them or give them a casual lesson. James has taught our kids to work hard and calls them out on it when the don't. There were times early on when I wanted to interject and be a helicopter parent because one of my kids was struggling with a complex drill or being lazy. I've seen how strong they've become mentally learning to push through and I've learned to trust James. My wife and I don't expect our boys to ever be tennis stars or play professionally. Our kids have definitely become more coordinated, gained more control over their bodies, more confidence and more independence from Coach James' and his team. read more

My child has been here over 6 months. Never had a problem with any of the assistant coaches. But when James coaches him, I've had to witness such a display of verbal abuse. From calling him names, imitating his walking and to pointing out different aspects of a child's life that has NOTHING to do with tennis. He had crossed the line! I was very adamant on sending my child there to build confidence and to love a sport, I KNOW he won't excell. If I wanted him to excel I would've started him much earlier. When you start verbally abusing a child, you should not be allowed anywhere near children. If you don't like how a child is progressing, you should be thinking of ways to help him or canceling him. NOT to berate someone, less alone a child. This shows that you just don't have any patience at all and you are reflecting on your own ability as a coach. It's pitiful. If I was any other parent watching how he yelled at my child. I would pull my child out of that place so fast. Again, no problem with any other coaches, just JAMES SPRINGER! By the way, his expensive PRIVATE lessons, allow for 2 children. How is that private??? I wished I read all the google reviews before we ever met this guy. I want to thank the negative Nelly for posting all the negative. My daughter decided solely on your comments. She wanted a great coach, not just a good coach. What makes Coach James GREAT, you ask? My daughter was shy and was almost perceived as she had a chip on her shoulder. Coach James & his team have helped her to blossom so quickly as not only on her way to being a great tennis player, but a confident and respectful young lady. His method of teaching is quite OUTSTANDING I might add. I've even learned a couple things so I can hit some balls with my daughter. I never imagined my daughter would be disappointed if she missed practice, even in the scorching hot sun, she does and now has a passion for the sport. Shout out to Coach James and the Team!! Tennis Werx is a truly outstanding tennis program and Coach James is an exceptional instructor. The greatest strength of the program is James's energy and commitment to the kids. It is so fun to watch how he builds up the kids and, yet, is still tough enough on them (for the older kids) to get them to perform. For the littler ones, he is very positive and uplifting. My 12 year old son just started just under 2 months ago and I am shocked at how much he has learned. I'm so excited that we can spend quality father/son time now because he can volley with me. Middle school is hard on kids and for them to have a passion with something is hard to find. My brother of the age of twelve changed his whole life around, he was a kid with no responsibility, disorganized, rude, had bad grades, and cared for nothing but video games. Tennis werx is such a fantastic tennis program. My daughters age 10 and 12 have been in the program for 2 years. My 14 year old son started 6 months ago. My son started at Tennis Werx a couple of months ago. He is only 3.5 yrs. old and is already learning proper technique including foot work (we all know it starts with the feet). The program is more than just a coach standing still and lobbing balls at your child to hit. From footwork drills through creative and energetic games, the staff here does a great job! Coach James really cares for his players and is always available when an issue arises and he works with the parents to find a solution. He and his staff is very in tune with his students. They are very knowledgeable, full of energy and always give plenty of compliments. Each child gets the individual attention they deserve while at the same time emphasizing teamwork and respect. He demands the children pay attention and always give it their all, at the same time keeping lessons interesting and never burning them out. He and his staff know when a child is losing focus and knows when to mix it up with fun games in order to keep their attention. Anyone with a 3-5 yr old knows how challenging this can be. My son asks almost everyday day if he can go and play tennis at Tennis Werx. Personalized gear is available for everybody including shirts with the nicknames that coach James and his staff eventually give each child. The kids learn that through discipline and hard work they can and will improve. My sons ability to take instruction and to listen in a sports environment has improved (I enrolled him in a youth soccer program when he was 18 months old). I was looking forward to getting him involved in tennis at an early age and enrolled him in a parks and rec class at Whitney Mesa. As the weather started to get warmer I started looking for something indoor, as the summers here are way too hot for a child my son's age.
