In those 8 years I have had 3 different dogs and all loved East Shore Park. My current dog thinks the park is all for him: he would go there multiple times a day if I let him, but we usually aim for once or twice a day at most. There are multiple areas to explore including tennis courts, a playground, several ball fields and overgrown bocce courts. Unfortunately the sewage treatment plant smell still lingers. Definitely a down fall to living in this neighborhood. But the water views and park itself can't be beat.

A lovely 1.2 mile out and back, revitalized old trolley track. Bird watchers are in for a special treat, kids delight as crabs scuttle by their feet. Parking has always been a breeze and the trail is flat, navigated with ease. Be sure to sit and take in the peace (save the hum of life that doesn't cease.)

As you may infer from the name, it's right in a fair sized river, and does seem to allow fishing for the properly permitted. There are trash and recycling bins, and a good number of picnic tables. The parking lot looks like it could fit about 8 cars, and side street parking is available as well. The negative: they don't allow dogs. Personally, I think it's a perfect park for dogs, and they're not causing the litter that can be found on the grass but an FYI for those who may visit...

The road going to both is narrow and has some sharp turns, so definitely do the speed limit. Otherwise, they are easy to get to from the entrance. The Judges Caves offers a short experience; it's essentially a rock formation and not really a cave. Interesting to look at and climb for a few minutes. The scenic overlook offers a few view spots where you can see the sound all the way to Long Island. A fun little excursion after my visit to the Trolley Museum.

Road was closed to vehicular traffic, but the walk was nice and gradual, all of it on what seemed to be new macadam. After about 1.6 miles, road forks. To the right is a short walk to Judge's Cave. To the left, a short walk to the scenic overlook. Interesting story commemorated on a plaque on the cave. Very few other people, and almost as many dogs. Scenic overlook kind of blah....no water views, but at an elevation of about 600 ft. Overall, a beautiful day. Breezy, shaded by a nice canopy most of the way. Good way to stretch the legs, and learn an interesting piece of history.

The main path, which parallels the old lock, is paved, at least as far as we went in. Beautiful day, with plenty of outdoor benches. Only graffiti I saw was on wooden bridge by caretaker's house. A'hole(s). Otherwise, no litter, and well maintained.

It is a pretty park, with bathroom facilities, but all of it could use a little bit of TLC. There aren't any interpretive signs to speak of explaining about the canal's history or even explaining the lock that is here. The lock itself is a bit overgrown and in need of restoration. The bathrooms are nice but could be in better condition. It really could be and should be more than it is, hopefully the town could put some funding into this park for improvements. It's a nice place to stop to use the bathroom, but not any sort of park that I would consider a destination in and of itself. And most important: being that how it's located just off a bicycle trail, there are no bike racks. That's a big oversight, IMO.

So nice to visit a small animal Nature Center and watch live a bird nest. There was CPR training being conducted so one of the rooms was closed but for the first time ever I got to see a blue jay bird up close. So Neat
