The restrooms were a contention because apparently we could not use the women's restroom as it was reserved for wedding.... Used the one suggested and it was dirty with an odor of urine. Osbornedale State Park has a hiking trail, fishing, picnic areas, and t nearby Osborne Homestead Museum. The prominent Osborne family owned numerous metal working and fabric product factories in the area. At the young age of 31, Frances Osborne, later Mrs. Waldo Kellogg, took over the family business when her father died in 1907. Miss Osborne decided to take over the family business instead of selling it. Additionally, it was contrary to the advice of the executers of her father's estate, and a brave undertaking for a woman in the early part of the century. Despite the prejudices against woman in business at that time, Mrs. Frances Osborne Kellogg was very successful in her many businesses and investments. By adhering to the belief that one should always buy land but never sell it. Mrs. Kellogg gradually acquired numerous separate farms which now comprise the 350 acre Osbornedale State Park, an unusually large property in the Derby-Ansonia area.

The park also has playgrounds, ball fields, and a splash pad for kiddos; Right next to Beardsley Zoo, so you can easily make a full day of it. I definitely want to come more often.

It's a pretty big park with play grounds for the kids and also has a great walking path. It's large enough to find quiet spaces and the surrounding water is pretty and peaceful. The roads in the park are usually pretty quiet which makes it a good place to ride bicycles. It also has a long bike path that leads to Trumbull Nichols area which I find pretty neat. It has a few large fields, including at least 2 baseball fields and a small water park for kids. The Beardsley zoo is also attached to this park which gives yet another activity you can do with your family.

It's quite serene to be able to look out at the marshes on one side and the beach on the other. The paths are well groomed. Be sure to go inside if you can. There are some other animals to see in tanks as well as a library of kids books. There's also a great view of the marsh with a few telescopes, as well. There was someone working here at the time we visited, and she also brought out some coloring pages. Definitely worth checking out if you're near by and want a change of pace.

The park is almost 300 acres of beach, dunes, salt marsh, and woods. You can beach, swim, fish, walk along the beach or boardwalks, birdwatch... (FYI: alcohol is prohibited, so this is a beach for families, relaxing, and no-alcohol fun.) It's free for in-state registered vehicles. If your car or rental car is not registered in Connecticut, it costs $22 on weekends or holidays and $15 on weekdays (or $112 for a season pass). We couldn't stay long (the downside of a roadtrip with a planned out itinerary), which was too bad, because the beach was very nice! Crowded, perhaps, but what beach isn't on a hot July day?! I could've stayed a while with an umbrella for shade, a book, and a picnic! A lovely public beach.

There is ample parking, a gate surrounding the area (except for an opening at the entrance), and tons of benches for parents. There are picnic tables that dot the surrounding area. The two biggest pitfalls of this playground are its lack of swings and it's rubber ground covering. The ground covering is bouncy and prevents kids from getting hurt if they fall, but it's falling apart. Little rubber particles were already scraping off and I saw several children grabbing pieces of it. I imagine this must also be leeching into the ground.
