Stopped by this beach in the middle of a road trip and it didn't disappoint! It's relatively small but has a pier to walk out on. Low tide revealed a bunch of seashells and little critters! I found plenty of sea snails, hermit crabs, and baby little crabs! The sand isn't as soft as other beaches given the amount of seashells. But it's relatively clean, given that it's a smaller beach. Came on a Monday afternoon and it wasn't too crowded. They also have public bathrooms and a outside shower to wash off the sand off your body and feet. Waves didn't look too intense and the water was pretty warm for August. Outside the beach, there's a little boardwalk with local shops and restaurants. They even have their own creamery not too far from the beach if you're craving ice cream! read more

This is a beautiful beach! Me and my son absolutely loved it and had a great time. It's clean, and in a nice area and parking was very close. We got there early enough and didn't have to pay to park next to the beach. Some other reviews said they had to pay however. And after we got there around 9:06 we saw someone at the stand where you pull in collecting money. There were lots of joggers and me and my son got to pickup a pretty nice sea shell. The Pier here was BEAUTIFUL! My first time on one. My son and I saw a father and son out there fishing. This was an awesome beach to visit. read more

As a non-resident of Connecticut, for 70$ entrance fee, the "beach" was not worth it at all. This is more of a kids only beach since the tide was very very low. I went out to the farthest I could and it never went past my hips. I'm a very short person too! The "sand" wasn't sand. It was uncomfortable to step on and the water was dirty. The cost of entry is $15 Per car for non Milford residents Memorial Day through Labor Day. My greatest takeaways from this beach are simple: * The location is great thanks to local restaurants and shops like scoot and paddle that offer kayak and SUP rentals * On a calm day, the water can be surprisingly clean and clear. * The beach isn't as well kept as other parks like Hammonasset beach. A sunny Saturday proved to be the perfect day for a friends get together at Walnut Beach. The beach was buzzing today as they held the 41st annual sand art contest. The beach is beautiful! White sand, sea shells of all sizes, cool water and a beautiful view of the ocean. Parking is ample and easily accessible, the bathroom facilities were clean and the areas away from the sand were well kept! If volleyball is your fancy then bring a ball because the nets are up for games. Definitely stop by before summer is gone. read more

We have only been here each time after 4 pm, and found no problems parking and were not charged a fee. I think for the facilities it provides, it's a great place to get to the beach given how ridiculous in comparison prices are for entry to the Jennings beach in Fairfield county and such! Really cute beach. It connects to Silver Sands beach via a huge updated walkway. Great for joggers, walkers, seniors, and moms strolling with carriages. The beach is very clean and well maintained. Loads of rocks and shells. The sand is the typical coarse sand that you find at all the CT coastal beaches. Conveniently located, this beach is a my new local go to. read more

This could be a review for Walnut or Silver Sands as one merge into the other, I chose to write under Walnut as I enter the stretch of the beach from there. As I am getting ready to leave this place I am already feeling nostalgic about the beach. I don't think there will be much useful info here, I just had to write down the feelings that this place invokes.. I got to know this beach during the onset of spring. Chilly breeze and freezing water kept people away from the beach though the boardwalk that stretches from Walnut to Silver Sands bustled with joggers and walkers. Some areas of the beach was closed off as birds nesting place..then came the spring flowers. Summer brought in the crowd and rows of cars parked off street (plenty of parking around). I have avoided the beach when its crowded, living right across the street let me take a stroll at ungodly hours and see the different moods of the sea, so like me...I have been there in the calm, the rough, the low tide and high, with the dark blanket of cloud looming over, bright blue skies, the painted skies at dusk, the wet sand after the rain, the golden sands reflecting the evening light, the July4th fireworks lighting up the skies. The various smell ..salty, of fresh oysters, of spring flowers..Sometimes the lighting in the late evening is so perfect that Ive driven straight to the beach from work, taken off my stilettos and walked bare foot on the warm sand in my office wear. I've transitioned from one phase of my life to another right here, picking up pieces of my broken heart along with the smooth washed over stones..feeling warmth and comfort While I look forward to my move to the City brimming with the sea of people, this beach will always remain close to my heart. We enjoy the walk along the beach and easy access to the beach. Plenty of parking! The boardwalk is well built and plenty of room as there are many folk walking- even in the off season! They bathrooms are closed off season but we can walk the puppy! Sometimes you just need to smell the ocean air! read more

One of my favorite beaches, along with Silversand in the area. I love the boardwalk - about 1.5 miles of walking along the shore. Great and walk-able area around it, with many small businesses like ice cream shop. I go here with my family several times per week in warm weather. There are different events that can take place here - from concerts in the gazebo, fishing in the pier, playing sports (there are volleyball nets). Parking in the main beach lot requires a town sticker, but there is also street parking where no sticker is required. One thing I don't like is that in the parking lot there are weird groups of teens or people partying or engaged in weird activities sometime. The beach itself is not very clean or beautiful - but this is unfortunately typical of beaches in the Long Island Sound. Nevertheless there is space (it is not overcrowded). No pets or bikes allowed on the boardwalk. The patrols have gotten better about enforcing this, and the beach is becoming cleaner over the years, with more people adhering to its rules. read more

Milford, CT is a beautiful town. Walnut Beach is both tranquil and lively. Parking near the beach is for Milford residents only (after Memorial Day) but paid parking spots are available; almost as close. From open until about noon it's perfect for people who enjoy a quiet beach, after that (especially next to the pier) it might resemble Spring Break. Loud music and young people enjoying themselves. The farther from the pier the quieter it'll get. It's Sandy, with beautiful water views. When the tide goes out sand bars are easily accessible. The water in the Sound is cold until July/August, just in case you're looking for a dip. Kids can handle the water after Memorial Day though. The cold water does mean no jellyfish! When the water heats up you'll see them, or feel that sting! It connects to Silver Sands State Park *(I'm told, I haven't walked the entire beach to verify) if you're a beach walker or a State Park fan. It's a beautiful beach! There are volleyball nets, lifeguards are on duty (currently) and you'll see boats, paddleboarders, low flying planes, there's a pier, people fishing... it a fun spot! So if you're thinking of enjoying late Spring & Summer... it's worth it. And don't forget to check out downtown Milford, it's picturesque and classic Connecticut! read more

I visited after work one day and found many others (not too many) walking down the paved path in front of the beach. There were people windsailing, playing beach volleyball and fishing. A lovely quiet beach. Parking was just $15.00 which is a bargain in Ct but the best thing of all was Frank's Italian Ice cart located right by the walking path to the beach! For $3.00 you are getting the old fashion Italian ice! Not too sweet with that yummy clear frozen ice at the bottom! It was better than the Italian ice I recently had in Little Italy in NYC! Nice quiet beach. They weren't collecting parking fees today so we saved $15 for being non Milford residents. The beach was dirty with cigarette butts and bottle caps. Rocky, but almost gravel like rocks, not even beach rocks. Nice to walk out on the sand bar and get away from that. However, leaving your belongings is not easy with the aggressive seagulls and crows. Has potential if people would take their trash and stop feeding the birds. Won't return. Nice beach in Milford with a decent amount of parking and street options (with a time limit, cops take notice in the summer) available. I prefer Walnut Beach over Silver Sands. It's still accessible to the boardwalk and it also has benches and grills, like Silver Sands, but it's a little quieter in my opinion. It's also closer to a small downtown area where there is food (i.e. Lazy Lobster), a liquor store, equipment rentals (scooters, SUPs, etc.), and an art shop. read more

I just got 'gained' off the milford beach. Minding my own business & I bunch of people crowded around screaming the 'f word' nigga & cracker'. OMG small children all around. They were smoking pot, & set up a beer pong (more Iike vodka or tequila). Very loud music with horrible offensive words. There wasn't even anyone to report this too. What is happening? Is this really our youths??? Pigs & no class. So much for people following the rules!!! Normally love this beach, I no longer feel safe here. I think the beach is beautiful and some days are cleaner than others. Too often there is a lot of trash in the water! Not long ago a woman had a german shepard there and allowed it to run loose. it rant o where the children were playing on the sand and in the water. she did not seem to mind and went on carrying her glass bottled budweiser beer. no dogs allowed? there does not seem to be much beach patroling at the milford beaches. people are free to do what they want. at gulf beach very often cars are parked without resident stickers while required? read more
