Everything looks quality made and it shows in the price. Everything I liked was out of my price range and the little Knick knack stuff seemed expensive for what they were. This place is aggressively chic. It was like a fun MOMA vibe but more boho than modern. I was even tempted by a gorgeous apron and I don't even cook. I've been looking for chic oven mitts and these were perfect. There were many equally tempting candles (I picked the sexy leather study fragrance, my words not theirs) and a gorgeous handmade espresso cup. Really really cute design store with a Dutch feel to it (which makes sense, based on the owners Dutch proclivities). You can find a lot of eclectic items here -- ranging from minimalist to kitschy. Items are heavily curated and give a nice sense of possibilities for your home spaces, but be warned that design does come at a higher price tag. I ended up getting a series of geometric whiskey stones for 36$ that were too cute not to buy, but oddly enough, they came from Brooklyn. Sometimes you have to travel across the country to find a taste of home. read more

This shop has a great selection of artsy, strange and beautiful home decor items. This ranges from art jewelry, woodcarving kits, children's toys, to strangely shaped candles. I liked that the items I looked at seemed to be very high quality and well made, lots of good options to gift to people who have everything. Staff were very friendly and helpful here, from greeting people as soon as they enter to bring available to help with any questions about products. However the selection and shop size was much smaller than I expected. I initially found this place on the Portland website under things to do and shopping adventures. I would say definitely stop by and check out if you're in the area but not worth a trek across town on foot which we ended up doing. Overall an interesting small shop that's good for unique gifts for the interior designers in your life. read more

Nicely curated shop with lots of cute handmade items and a section of Japanese home goods. Also some jewelry from a local artist, potted plants, toys, desk/office items, and other home goods. Prices are a little high, but all the items are pretty unique. Great place to find gifts! The interior of the store is clean and aesthetically pleasing. Service is good. read more

I'm so excited to give this place an even worse review! These people truly do the damn most to treat potential customers like they're irrelevant. Woonwinkel hates business, hates offering any kind of customer service, and hates making money! A few nights ago I was walking home from work and and I saw an attendant putting together a beautiful wooden tree (yes, I know that sounds odd - aren't all trees made of wood?), like some kind of installation that you build piece by piece. I thought, I should give that place another chance! That tree is too cute and it looks a lot less messy than the Christmas trees we set up every year. I was totally ready to buy one if only someone would have actually spoken to me in the store. Instead, the woman there ran off and hid at the register. I said "hello?" to her and she didn't respond. I said "Can you help me?" and she stared intently away like I wasn't even there. You have a massive sales problem when shopping at your store is this difficult. Part of the reason people are sometimes willing to spend extra money on luxury items is because of the shopping experience. People like to feel like they chose something really beautiful and personal from a place that offered them great service. It's absolutely idiotic to have a sort of high end store that offers terrible service. People can go to Target down the street and get better service on generic box-store items. I actually wanted to ask her to speak to her manager, but the store seemed completely devoid of visitors (seriously, whenever I pass this place it's empty), and I doubted anyone else was there. I hope Woonwinkle is pushed out of business. We are surrounded with better home-furnishing stores in downtown and the pearl - Alder & Co, Boy's Fort, West Elm, Anthropologie - they cater to the same market, sell expensive cute home goods, and guess what - no one in those stores disrespects me when I walk in. They mysteriously are all interested in making money! read more

Walked by this adorable store and I'm glad I did! Unique lamps, planters, fragrances, jewelry, candles, toys, and more! A bit pricey but it's a small local store so you pay for the craft behind the art. Cashier was very sweet and friendly. Such a great place for simple yet unique gifts. read more

Lots of Nordic designed housewares, so the items are very creatively thought out - electrical cord stand, fun pitchers, coffee bag clips that double as a scoop, plenty of stationery, pastel style ceramics, etc. It's quite fun just to browse and discover all the cool items. Really disappointed. I purchased a book 3 days ago as a gift. I didn't realize the book was already one we had. Upon trying to return it I was told that bc I purchased this during the 'Labor Day sale' it was a final sale. There were no signs re final sale. I was not told at time of purchase that it would be a final sale. And, the text receipt didn't indicate final sale. I try to support local small businesses. This experience draws me away from shopping here again. read more

Gorgeous design, also from local artisans, which generally has been hand-made and from hence the pricey-ness of this store. But as I am a first generation immigrant from Holland, I drop in here, just to taste the way stuff is sold there and, hopefully, meet the Dutch owner one day. Unfortunately, so far I have missed her. What I like about this shop, is what I sometimes miss in stores in the US: its aesthetic appeal in beauty and simple lines. Europeans and Americans have different tastes. Objects are made less to last in the States, more for their functionality, and products often have a larger size than what you find in Europe, where space is at a premium. The luxury of a 2-bath (or toilet) home is reserved for the wealthy in my country. Dutch stores tend to combine functionality with design, often due to space constraints. I guess I sometimes miss those products--and they always cost more. read more

This is a fancy art and craft, knick-knack store in the middle of downtown. In the days of Etsy and Amazon, millions of such products are available online. This store fills the need of having someone curate and display the finest of pieces for you to choose from. I love the collection here and if I am in the neighborhood, will always peek in to see what's new. They have a collection of area rugs and scarves that are gorgeous. The goods are pricey though. But I have chanced upon a few good things at an affordable price. read more

Most things are handmade either in the US, or in other "unconventional small goods manufacturing countries," thus the prices are understandably higher than your neighborhood HomeGoods store. They carry Bend Goods, though most items need to be ordered with a several week turnaround. The cost of gorgeous art. The sales person was helpful, though I can understand previous comments about being a bit absent in customer service. A neat store to check out if you're decorating any space! Will definitely keep this store in mind when looking for unique pieces of art and furniture. read more

3 things about woonwinkel: 1. the name means "home shop" in dutch. how cute is that? 2. they've got a wonderfully curated collection of fun, beautiful, useful things. it's like shopping in a gallery of cool design except you get to touch everything. ;0) 3. their customer service is exceptional. i bought a set of 3 wooden spoons with awesome fluorescent pink, rubber-dipped handles over 7 months ago. one of them cracked even though it had only been used a couple of times. i emailed to let them know and they arranged to have a new one shipped to me, even though i live in canada! wow. above and beyond what i was expecting. totally looking forward to shopping there again on my next trip to portland! read more
