my deconstructed golden pothos getting the help it needs!
    Tajahnae S.

i cannot recommend this business enough. i traveled from Kansas to portland with my golden pothos and saw my leaves drooping and dying. i was stressed but happy to know i lived right around the corner from hammer and vine. i took my plant in to get the help it needs and i learned so much. the service was impeccable. she walked me through everything while caring for my plant. replaced my soil, cleared the dead leaves, gave me fertilizer, and the best advice. she even helped me propagate for the first time! i'm very new to owning plants so i appreciate her knowledge and kindness. i ended up buying a small vase for $6 to propagate and a cute ceramic mushroom piece for my pot. overall i spent $13 on physical items yet gained everything else for free. such a good deal! i will be back to purchase and support!

Lovely store. I didn't know this place was here till I needed to find something for my potting project. I went to find orchid pot which they didn't have. But once my orchids grow big enough, I want to get some terra-cotta pits from them,, they had unique and cute pots! And if you have any questions, they can answers as they treat my plants as theirs. Just fun to look through the store if you are in this neighborhood.

New Favorite plant shop! I came in yesterday and had the best service Ever!!!! I wish I got her name, but she was cheerful, energetic, and willing to answer any and all questions for everyone browsing the shop. She helped me pick the perfect plants for the space and lighting in my new home and even helped answer questions about my plants that weren't even purchased at hammer + vine. 100% top notch service. Even the hubby thought the plants I brought home were beautiful! There are plants for all budgets and spaces, and some plants that are difficult to find anywhere else! I can't wait to come back again soon!

Booth at Portland Saturday Market in newly renamed Ankeny Market Place section

Excellent selection of succulents, air plants, tropical plants. The also sell gorgeous blown glass vessels that they make, yes, it's true! And ceramic pots and other types of vases as well. These type of plants are so on trend and instantly give your house a modern touch. I particularly love the hanging vessels with the air plants, with an odd number hanging from a simple horizontal bar. Remember, even though they are "airl plants" they do need water! The staff is very educated so ask how best to care for your plants. They have a booth at the Portland Saturday Market in the old section between SW 2nd & Ankeny, now called Ankeny Market Place. The booth is so well styled; everything displayed beautifully. Great place to buy a gift for a friend or yourself!

I love this little plant shop. You order online and can pick up (there is no in store shopping now). I ordered a few plants at really great prices and they were very healthy at pickup. I got an amazing deal on a string of hearts that is super long!

    Mounted Moose Horn Fern

Got myself and a friend a mounted Moose Horn Fern (similar to Staghorn Ferns) from H&V as a housewarming gift and I'm so happy with my selection. The staff here are just so friendly and knowledgeable about plant care. This little shop is easy to miss from the street with just a little awning to mark its existence but it's such a hidden gem. There's plenty of street parking and a small hidden parking lot that I discovered later but will remember next time I visit. They've got a huge variety of indoor plants so don't be afraid to ask questions about plant care.

I do love plant shops, and this one's a cutie! They have a varied and interesting inventory that is displayed in an inspiring way, and the staff is very knowledgeable for how to care for everything that they sell. Really, what more could you want? As I said, I like the selection and that goes for both the plants themselves and their containers. Lots of nice artisan pottery and containers. Everything here feels very current, like you could expect to see this place on Instagram or ApartmentTherapy. I dig. If you're a plant store guy/gal like me, you'll definitely want to be sure and not overlook Hammer + Vine

I am an outdoor plant person but I do try to do an indoor plant or two...I am up to six now. I have cats, very low light and I over or under water. I will manage to keep a plant alive for a long time and then it just dies. I try to be good though and I appreciate buying something healthy to give me a head start so I am less likely to commit planticide. This store makes you want to plant everything. The selection is perfect - not overwhelming or underwhelming - that perfect amount to inspire you and give you options. I could not resist a tiny pot and a succulent and I appreciated her offer to plant it for me - even better since then I leave with zero waste and she can reuse the little planter. She also has great knowledge and is very easy going...sometimes people who are super smart in what they do seem unapproachable but she is super nice and wants to help you which I appreciate to become less murderous with my interior planting attempts.

Looking to spice up your home with some beautiful plants? Look no further. Hammer + Vine created a wonderful experience for my boyfriend and I. We came in hoping to grab some succulents or cactuses for his apartment and, after reading a lot of reviews, decided to come here. It has a great location - super quaint and VERY green. The blonde woman who was working was extremely kind and insightful, she helped my boyfriend and I figure out which glass we should plant our cactuses in and allowed us to build our own tiny garden. Everyone was so kind and inviting and I will definitely be coming back. The prices were really great, as well, and seemed very fair. They have small succulents or cactuses 3 for $10 or medium/large sized for $6-10 each. Also, the frogs!! Such a sweet touch! Overall, really grateful for this experience here and will be returning!

My gargoyle gecko's bioactive terrarium, featuring the happy blooming airplant I recieved from Hammer + Vine! Kind owner, beautiful and healthy selection of plants, including some rare varities including nicely variegated pink princesses that I wish I could've stuffed in my suit case! Definitely visit if you're in portland- plus Yokai Musubi is right next door with delicious and affordable food

Beautiful new pot and moss pole for my monstera plant!
    Lara R.

I enjoyed my first-time visit and found an awesome pot and moss pole for my monstera. I like that they source locally made merchandise because Portland is full of talented artists, and their selection really reflects this. I also bought two great plants for half off, couldn't be happier. I will say, I'm not likely to buy any moist-soil plants from this location because I saw fungus gnats flying around. I'm terrified of those things now that I've suffered through an infestation once, and the plants that come in from this store that are tropical or otherwise non-succulent need to be isolated before integrating with the rest of the houseplants. Otherwise, fabulous selection and service. I'll be back.

    My air plant.
    Tori L.

My friend recommended this shop at the beginning of COVID-19. I made a purchase and they delivered within just a couple days. I had anticipated waiting longer and was so happy to get my plants so quickly. I bought a heart fern, a goldfish pant and an air plant. All three are doing great! Will definitely be purchasing more.

    Anna-Marie T.

Hammer + Vine is the perfect store for succulent/plant lovers! I recently started sprouting my own succulents and was happy to find varieties here that I have not seen at my local farmer's market in SoCal. The store also has really cute pots and other crafty things you can browse and purchase. If I had more room in my luggage, I would have brought more succulents back home with me to California.

Most of the plants here came from Hammer and Vine. Doing great!

Shortly thereafter, I received an email from Pottery Barn advising that my order had been delivered. The box has no mention of PB. I queried the product on Umbra's website and found that, not only is Umbra the manufacturer, but PB is marking up the product by $50 and failing to disclose that it is manufactured and shipped directly by this company, which also sells this product through mas retailer Walmart for $117 with free shipping. When I phoned Pottery Barn to complain and request an adjustment for bait and switch, I was advised that I may be able to return the product to a local store (a 30-minute drive each way), could return it via UPS at my expense, or could accept a $30 "courtesy credit." With a house primarily furnished in Pottery Barn wares, Im disgusted in how this was handled and with the lack of disclosure in product advertising. Nothing is cheap here, literally or figuratively. Everything is super well-made, but very pricey. My kid saw a pizza platter here for $20 that she purchased the day before at HomeGoods for $4.99. The exact same item. That said, this place carries a lot of brands and items that you cannot find elsewhere, and the staff are extremely knowledgeable about their product lines. I liked their selection of retro wall clocks in a rainbow of colors, each for about $50 (I thought that was reasonable). Also, note that their sale prices on items are excellent deals. RH has a style - industrial modern - and their showroom floors showcase their large pieces of streamlined furniture, textiles, and exquisite lighting beautifully. This is not furniture for an 1800 square foot house! Their sectional couches are huge! As are their chandeliers, coffee tables and wall cabinets. For me, the decor would work best in a high end hotel lobby or very large, spacious house. While visiting yesterday, it was refreshing to see rooms done in cappuccino colors after seeing nothing but gray for so long. I'm not knocking gray, my own house has lots of gray and creams, but it's nice to have options in the neutral range. In addition to selling furniture, they are a design house and will work with you to design a new home, remodel or just refresh a room or two. Or if you are like me, and wondered in just to check out the new digs, they encourage you to browse. Price point is very high, but for the clientele they target, it's not a problem. While I don't have any of their furniture, my bathrooms are stocked in their Egyptian towels and robes, a splurge when I bought my new condo. That purchase put me on their distribution list for their 5 pound catalog that comes out twice a year. Make it stop! What a waste of trees and the poor postal service workers! It's literally as heavy as the old Yellow Pages Phone Book, for those of you old enough to remember. RH really needs to eliminate this unnecessary piece of marketing that immediately gets tossed into the recycle bin.
