Flew into London City the other day and used DLR station to head into the city. The station is…read moreattached to the airport and is merely 20 steps away from the terminal! The trickiest part is payment as it is on the honor system... Payment can be made via single fare tickets, an Oyster card, or any contactless payment device (i.e. Apple Pay, Google Pay, any watch or credit card that has the "Wifi" symbol) Payment via contactless payment will be the cheapest and one merely needs to tap the yellow 3 feet podium before going up the stairs! It's pretty much "Airport that-a-way". I suppose there are people who live in the area that use this station too. It is in Travelcard Zone 3. Like the entire DLR system, there are no ticket barricades. You must remember to buy a ticket or swipe your Oyster card. The DLR system does have ticket inspectors and the fine can be sharpish.

The DLR station is mid-block on Woolwich New Road, and the train station is on the corner with Vincent Road. The area, far from being the stereotypical scary, is actually quite diverse, and is also gentrifying rapidly. That said, there are a number of late-night kebab and chicken shops as well as a huge Tesco for grocery shopping during the daytime. Numerous bus connections around the area as well as DLR to Canning Town and Stratford.
