An old haunt of John Lennon and a real cinematic experience from the golden age of viewing when it was fresh and new and exciting.

It seems rather strange that a city like Chester doesn't have a decent cinema closer than this,…read moreanother cloned multiplex in an out-of-town retail park in the middle of nowhere, but there it is. Actually I say the middle of nowhere, that's just what it felt like during the 20 minute drive in the dark - it's actually on the edge of Ellesmere Port, but that's hardly a hub of civilisation in itself. It's the typical retail park scenario, you know the kind of thing - windy roads, lots of roundabouts, a steady breeze sweeping the tumbleweeds past as you're dazzled by the neon glow from Burger King, Nandos, Pizza Hut, Frankie & Benny's, Bella Italia, and the other usual suspects. The cinema experience itself was just like any other Vue, I just hate this universal trend towards corporate blandness that insists on building these huge conglomerate retail parks in the middle of nowhere.

It's annoying to get to without a car as the buses can be quite bad and sometimes don't show up at all. If you can get there then it is a far better venue than any cinema nearer to the city. With a large number of screens there are a lot of films on offer at any one time. In fact last time we visited, my wife ended up watching a different film to me, and this worked out great with only a 20 minute wait for one of us. The food is obviously a massive rip off, but that is true of every cinema these days. Luckily the rest of the retail park offers a range of restaurants to suit al tastes so it is worth eating before or after the film rather than spending a similar amount on a drink and some ice cream.

Odeon Cinema Switch Island - THE BIG ASS MELON IS ONE OF THE WORKERS

My sister-in-law has one of the unlimited passes to Odeon, so she's been to this cinema a lot…read more She told me this Odeon cinema was recently been redone, so while it didn't used to be busy, now it's quite a popular cinema! We experienced that when we went last week unfortunately. The reason is it's so busy is because there's much less seating now, but that's because all the seats are big, comfy recliners! They are awesome! Each seat gets its own little snack table as well. The seats recline and pop up with a foot rest. They are very comfortable -- perhaps a little too comfortable. I was still experiencing jet lag from our flight over, so I fell asleep several times during the film, but granted, the film didn't end until nearly midnight! It was so crowded that we had to wait an hour for the next available showing of the film we were trying to see. You can book your seats online though (we couldn't do that this time since my mother-in-law had a voucher she wanted to use, which coincedently, didn't even end up being valid since this was a luxe cinemas. doh!). In the lobby, there's a waiting area and a Costa Coffee inside. There's plenty of parking too. If you need snacks, there's a Home Bargain in the same plaza. In addition to popcorn and candy, the cinema itself also does fries (and probably some other items; I didn't really look). The whole theater smelled of fries when we walked in though. I wish the prices were a bit cheaper, but if you're a local, the unlimited monthly pass seems like a steal. It only costs a little more than the price of one movie to see unlimited films for the whole month. That's great! I also wish there was somewhere for your coat and your purse. I ended up putting my coat on the short wall behind my seat which worked out fine. The theater's seats are tiered, so each row is slightly elevated from the previous row. Each row has a spacious aisle in front of it too, so there's no squeezing past to get to your seat. Plus you have an entire little wall behind your seat (or in front I suppose), to put your cost on. I think they could use a little hook though by your seat for your purse and that would really be perfect! The only other downside is, there were a lot of ads! I don't mean trailers, I mean straight up ads. I thought the movie would start at 9 pm, but the ads started at 9, followed by the trailers, so the movie didn't start for ages which really sucked since I already was so exhausted. Anyway, 4 stars because this is the most comfortable I've ever been at the movies before! Plus the staff were really nice, trying to get my MIL's voucher to work and then trying to work out the best option for tickets with her NHS discount and my grandma-in-law's senior rate.

Means the kids get in for £1 each Have Cineworld made the decision to leave all heating off on these mornings as we are only paying £1 per person? Does the cheaper showings mean we all have to get pneumonia? People in the theatre where literally blowing icy clouds from their mouths and all the children where complaining of cold. never mind the kids.. we adults were too. We had to sit in coats and scarfs the entire film... the kids didn't want a coke.. they were asking for hot tea to warm them up! ( lol) ok.. that's a fabrication.. but a cup of tea to pour on our frozen paws would have been nice!# Couldn't wait to get out of there. Would NEVER go again...! This is just this cinema.. we have been to the St.Helens cineworld of a saturday morning too.. and we didn't catch colds sitting in there ;-)

It's a fair size, on the greyhound retail park next to the tenpin bowling centre, so there's plenty for families to do if not everyone wants to watch a film. As with all cinemas these days the sweets and other confectionary are SO expensive but they're getting more strict on what you try and sneak in these days so you either need to be more careful, go without, or hope the kids pick the cheapest sweets available. As stated, it's a fairly big cinema with plenty of screens so you tend to find a decent amount of showings for the more popular and newest films. However, in doubt i would pre-book !! Whilst their little automatic pre-booking machines don't always work, the staff are really helpful to try and sort out any problems. These days for an adult and child's ticket it is £10 unless you are watching an evening movie and then it's an extra £1 for some reason. They only have two people on tills at the entrance which isn't enough for just before the films start since they're so busy and everyone seems to pay with cards these days so that takes even longer. However, the cinema itself seems fairly clean and tidy and offer various things to help the kids and adults pass the time until the next film, and they also have booster seats for those times when the little ones need a little boost or when an adult comes and sits in front of a 3 year old, even though there are plenty of other seats available !! All in all, it's a decent cinema considering the Odeon has now closed and there's not much else, but unless you drive, know the bus timetable or are willing to pay for a taxi it's a bit of a pain to get too since it's out of the main city centre. That said, there's a park and ride down the road which helps if you like to travel into Chester on public transport.

The cinema itself is very modern, with 8 screens using the latest film technology, and the seats are comfortable and spacious. There is wheelchair access and seats in the front row that are suitable for the disabled. Inside the cinema there's an ice-cream stall, a popcorn counter in the middle of the foyer, a hot dog counter and a Pick 'n' Mix style sweet shop. Of course, these prices are all extortionate and whilst it costs £6.60 for an adult ticket to see the film, it costs almost as much for a tub of popcorn. Outside the cinema, which is located in a leisure park on the outskirts of Llandudno Junction, there's a McDonalds, a KFC, a Pizza Hut, a Frankie & Benny's and several other eateries. The price to see the film is actually quite reasonable, I believe, but the extras let the whole experience down.

The popcorn is expensive, the fizzy water that tastes vaguely of cola or orange is even worse, the hot dogs are luke warm and the nachos are doritos with a lumpy, solid, unlovable cheese sauce. But the place shows movies, and movies are good. Facilities were clean, the pool table worked (I won both games I played) and I can't say anything bad!

First time visiting this brand new Cineworld and will probably not be returning…read more To start with the positives: 1. Staff were all polite Now for the negatives: 1. The Starbucks doesn't accept Starbucks cards. Reason given was that they are a franchise branch. Didn't challenge this at the time. 2. Downstairs there were broken tiles, windows and the digital screens were not working. This was also the case upstairs over the food/drink so didn't know the price of anything. 3. One of the self serve ticket booths was broken. 4. No bins located in the foyer where you purchase food/drink. 5. Film was due to start at 6pm, but that came and went with nothing starting up on the screen. After about 10 minutes some people started to go and ask why it hadn't started. The projectors then turned on about 6.30pm and we noticed that because we were in ScreenX and on line with one of the side projectors, it was a constant flickering in the side of your eye (not sure if this is the same during the film as we left and got a refund before it started) but even the staff were unaware of this issue when we told them. About 10 mins later the adverts started so would have been another 15 minute wait for the film to start. At no point did any member of staff come in and tell us what was going on. 6. There were no staff seating the screen even though it was allocated seating, so there were some people with their feet up on the chairs in front of them and others were not sure of their seats. We went to Cineworld in hopes we could switch our unlimited membership from Odeon as they're also awful but ultimately won't be, following this experience. Again, staff were very friendly but it doesn't help with a multitude of problems such as this.
