Does not have much selection beyond ice cream, banana splits and hot dogs but for what they have to offer it is well worth the visit. Not sure of this shops history but I have driven past this location many times before, never giving it a second look. I guess you had to know what you were looking for before you can find it. I am glad I found it because it is now going to become a regular stop.

If you're lucky enough to be served by Buddy, that experience in and of itself is a treat on top of the treat you'll be receiving. Buddy is a genuine, kind, and lovely man. Is the ice cream absolutely out of this world? Not particularly. Is it good? Sure. You won't come here and be displeased with the quality. It's a solid 4/5. Not to mention the prices are very realistic & affordable. We ordered a hot fudge Sunday, which is listed as $5.00 on Buddy's menu, but he leaned in at the register and said "I'm only gonna charge ya for a soft serve." Of course, I went ahead and sent that gesture right back to him in the form of a tip on the receipt. Too kind. The portion was probably around 2 to 3 scoops worth of ice cream adorned with hot fudge, whip cream, nuts, chocolate syrup, and a cherry on top. Again, a solid 4/5. The atmosphere / vibe of the establishment is exactly what you hope to find. You feel like you're jumping back in time, to simpler days, reminiscent of your own childhood days, perhaps, as you enjoy a timeless classic treat of ice cream, however you please it. So go ahead, take it from a (former) Yelp Elite to give Buddy's a try. If you come into his shop with the right mindset, you'll leave with an unforgettable experience.

Despite its location [I live in the city, so most of my home state of Michigan seems either 'rural'…read moreor 'inconveniently located' by default], I was pleasantly surprised by how many customers would regularly stop in in the short period [believe me, it was inhalation more than eating!] in which I ate my ice cream. And I can really see why. Marietta, the owner, really takes pride in the hand-dipped ice cream and frozen custard she sells. She even has a breakdown of how 'thickly' her main ingredients are mixed into her custard on the counter, to assure hungry customers that they are receiving nothing but the best, and not some watered-down, overpriced mainstream chain fare. There is always a vast variety of ice cream flavours to please even the pickiest of frozen fare eaters, and the custard is truly to die for! Every time I end up back in Michigan, this place is on my must-go list, and this visit, I tried the chocolate chip almond coconut ice cream. I'm not even a huge fan of ice cream in the summer months, but this was AMAZING!! Just the right amount of everything, with little melt-in-your-mouth mini chocolate chips to offset the sweetness of the coconut. My husband had some sort of double Dutch chocolate concoction, which despite being a double scoop in a waffle cone -- and despite his skinny build -- was literally obliterated in seconds. Hot food is also served here, so we shared a platter of well-done french fries [we're into the crispy!] and hot dogs. I almost couldn't eat any ice cream, which was the whole reason we came in the first place, once we finished, but it's incredible how a girl's body can suddenly digest a little faster just so she can fit the sweet stuff in afterwards :P We ended up taking home almost 2 pints of ice cream with us, and they were naturally polished off before we left the state! The prices are incredibly reasonable, and cannot be replicated by any store-bought ice cream, no matter how expensive they are. What can I say, I'm spoiled! So if you're in the Sanford area and are dying in this sweltering summer heat, this is the perfect place to cool down and enjoy a sweet treat! I just wish she was in California, too!

In addition to the bakery there is a gift shop and cafeteria style restaurant. One might think this is a hotel and not just a restaurant. In the bakery the pastries are huge, probably double the size of a normal item. There are a multitude of pastries, donuts, breads, cookies, candy, and beverages. I had the strudel light flaky crust delicious apple filling. It's set up like a retail bakery (ok hence the name). However, that was my biggest disappointment. I was expecting a 'coffee shop' style place, but here is that it's somewhat set up as like a grab-and-go pick up or select items and have to take them to a cashier. And the coffee was self serve. I expected more like a regular café. In any case everything was very good. I'm glad I went to the bakery and not just the restaurant or I would've missed this entire place.
