Was here over the weekend for a bridal shower and it was a fun time. There is parking in front but it's not paved. The porch is beautiful and so is the inside. I was visiting Charlotte's Farmers Market and to my pleasant surprise, there was a representative from Woodmill Winery. This review is based on the farmer market's experience not actually visiting the vineyard. One thing to note about the Winemill selection is that most of their wines are Niagara and Muscadine grape based. I was able to taste several wines and thought they were pretty good. I settled on purchasing 6 bottles of their mulled wine. One was called "Christmas" and the other was "Blueberry." I would highly recommend drinking these warm with a cinnamon stick. The gentleman serving the wine was able to walk me through the selections. He was very attentive to my taste and was able to recommend wines best for my palate. read more

I highly recommend this product. I've purchased it at Food Lion, at a street market in Lincolnton, and at the Charlotte Regional Farmers Market on Yorkmont Road. I understand it's available at some Harris Teeters; I'm not sure that it is carried at all Food Lion's. My favorite is the sweet blackberry wine. I'm not a wine connoisseur, but I know what I like. The personnel are always friendly and helpful (you can sample the wines at the Charlotte Regional Farmers Market). Go get you some. You won't be sorry. read more

A wonderful find on our way back from South Mountains State Park and a great end to our day. We arrived on New Year's Day after hiking in the state park and hoped it was open and we were in luck! We had a seat and enjoyed a tasting of 8 muscadine wines and then Larry gave us a tour. He was a great story teller and obviously passionate about what he does and the health benefits of muscadine grapes. I highly recommend you stop in and give the wines a try, even if you think you don't like muscadine wines. They make wines in dry/semi dry and semi sweet/sweet options, so there is a variety. I loved the red wine, the "Christmas spice" wine and Midnight Gold. In addition to bottles of wine and some merchandise they had beautiful pottery and some other muscadine grape products like salsa, jams and dressing. They feature events and do weddings as well. Such a cute hidden gem! We saw the sign on the way to camping at South Mountains State Park and decided to stop by on our way back and I'm so glad we did! Melissa conducted the wine tasting for us and was so sweet and personable. We tasted many different types of wines. Fair warning- they're mostly all sweet wines so be prepared. But they were all so good! Melissa adapted to our tastes and gave us wines she thought we would like better and she was absolutely right. We went on a small tour of the facilities led by Melissa which was very informational and interesting. I picked up the Semi-Sweet American Jubilee to take home. We also got to take home our wine glasses we did the tasting with which was nice. The price is so affordable- only $6 for the tour, tasting and glass. We have not been to the actual Woodmill Winery, but we have had them at festivals and most recently at the Charlotte Farmer's Market. I am so happy to know that they are at the Charlotte Farmer's Market so that we can have their wine more often! I have not checked out their retail locations to see what kind of stock they have since they have their wines in sweet, semi-sweet, semi-dry and dry. I'm not sure who was manning the booth at the Farmer's Market, but there were two people there. One lady helped us out and she was nice as could be. Gave us the samplings we wanted and got to try their new Strawberry wine. It is very good and we did end up getting a bottle (opened it up this weekend)! Probably like their blackberry one a little bit more when it comes to the berry wines. But my ultimate favorite is American Jubilee! It is wonderful! Love the wine and the service that we have had offsite. Again, can't say anything about the actual winery, but we do love a couple of their wines! read more

We attended the Native American festival here about a week or so ago, and I was skeptical on making the drive out that far, but I'm so glad we did! I've never been to Woodmill Winery, so this was mine and my dad's first visit. We were highly impressed. The festival was a huge hit, and they had awesome vendors. The Winery itself was free doing wine tastings, and cheap glasses of wine slushees, wine, and sangrias. I definitely took advantage of the prices because just a few of those and you'll be feeling a little tipsy! Their wine here is to DIE for. It's such a beautiful vineyard. They did free tours so we could see how everything works when it came to crafting wine. It was a very interesting experience, and we REALLY enjoyed our drinks! I can't wait to come back to the next festival they have, so I can buy some more wine! Best wine around, HANDS DOWN, and BEST customer service around. The owners were there, and actually did our tour for us. We had a lot of fun and look forward to our next visit! read more

I purchased two bottles of the Red Muscadine wine from the Stanley fall festival and I'm hooked. No more Moscato for me. It goes well with Spaghetti or Pizza. I will definitely be purchasing more in the near future. read more

I teach a class on wine and my students are encouraged to go to wineries and takes notes to write up later for credit. This winery treated one of my students absolutely horribly. For some reason they thought the student was trying to steal their secrets?! How to make wine is not a secret. The student explain why he was there and how he was a student of a wine class. The student then asked for a tour and PAID to taste wine. After the tasting and tour, the owner/winemaker then took the students paper tasting notes, looked through them, and then ripped them up in front of the student and said he was lying about taking a class on wine. He told the student that they were there to steal all his wine secrets. Wow how disrespectful and crazy. Do not go here if you're at all inquisitive about wine and the process of making it. They will think you are there to steal their wine making secrets. read more

A large variety of wines and super friendly owners make this a great place to check out. It was definitely worth the drive from Charlotte. First off, the wine - At first it doesn't seem like a lot of variety, but then you realize that most of their wines come in multiple levels of sweet and dry. I don't care for wines that are too sweet, and many of their were. However, with as many varieties as they offer, you would be hard pressed not to find at least one you liked. Their wines average about $12-15 per bottle. The one liked the best was their Blueberry Semi-Dry, but they were out of bottles of it. I hope next time I'm there, they will have more of that again. Personally, I did not care for any of their muscadine wines I tried, but I really liked their Cabernet Franc. It has a bit of a smoky taste, which I hope means it will pair well with food when we grill out. Next, the wine tasting and tour - For $5, you get to taste 6 or 7 of their wines, get a glass to take home, and taking a tour. The tour was the best part. The owner told his story about how he got into wine making, and showed us the operation. I learned quite a bit about how they make their wine their, and I love that they still hand-pick their grapes there. Everyone was so amazingly friendly. My only complaint is that I wish you could have tried more of their wines. It was hard to narrow it down to only 6 or 7. Finally, location - This spot is very pretty, and I would guess it is even better in the spring and summer. They have it set up for weddings, and they do quite a few there. This seems like a wonderful place for a country wedding, especially when the vines are in bloom. I also love that you can get their wines at a variety of places in Charlotte. Very convenient! I would definitely come out here again, probably in the late spring or summer. read more

Found this winery accidentally when driving to the South Mountains for a hike. It was great to sit there and drink a glass of wine while resting our legs. The owners and staff are very friendly, took time to talk and explain everything we wanted to know, also gave us a tour of their wine-making process. The property and tasting room are very pretty. The wines are good, not outstanding but perfectly drinkable. There are mostly muscadine and fruit wines, but the fruit wines are actual fruit juice turned into wine rather than flavored wines. Big thumbs up for that. I might go back if I was in the area again, but I probably wouldn't make the drive all the way from Charlotte specifically to come here. read more

A bit of an adventure getting here from Charlotte. GPS will take you in circles for no reason. But we made it. They have a very nice customer seating area. Crafts are on display for sell. There is the regular wine tasting setup. But the high chairs do not slide so bring a step ladder. Now wines here cover a wide range. So if you like dry or sweet or something in between you will find it here. There were also blueberry and blackberry fruit wines. Wine prices were about12$ a bottle with several sales options on types and quantity. Their spring festival is mid May. So bottom line is when they get your money it's a lock for them .Poorly ran business/ winery whatever so don't trust a snake is what I say. Larry was a rude jerk We went to an event with my 6lb chihuahua in our arms and was rudely told they don't allow dogs. So we try to leave only to find the exit is blocked. The employee there said the exit was blocked and it was no longer an exit. Turning around and back at the entrance is where we encountered Larry. He didn't seam to believe us that exit was blocked. We inquired about the dog issue and he claimed it's an event and the don't allow dogs. I don't know what being an event had to do with it? He claimed a few times everything he advertises says no pets. So Larry says to leave, go down this road, pointing, and DONT STOP. I have no idea what I did to piss this guy off so much. Anyway this time the road was open. I understand if they have a pet policy but the don't have to such jerks about. BTW. I checked all the signs and the invite I had received and found no mention of a pet policy. read more

I love Woodmill wines but this year we bought three bottles of different ones from their fall festival. Two of the them were undrinkable. I knew there was something wrong when I uncorked it and it made a very loud noise . The wine was foamy and it stank unbelievably. I won't even describe what it smelled like. We've never had problems with their wines before but we won't be buying more unfortunately. read more

Went here today on 9/4/19 and it was not what I expected at all. I understand it's a winery, but there website also states that you can tour their beautiful vineyards. When I got here I told the lady I did not want any wine, I asked her where all I could walk around? She replied with "I'm not sure .. most people don't come here to walk" the main reason I came was to see the beautiful landscape! She also said the lake is off limits. I'm not sure what all there is to do here except taste wine and leave. Again, I understand it's a winery but their website is very misleading. read more

Fun and informative experience, had a great time! A friend and I went to Woodmill Winery this past fall just to explore a place we have never been and relax on a beautiful day. We had decided before going in that we would probably skip the tasting and just take a gamble on a bottle and sit outside for a little. Neither of us usually go for sweet wine, so we knew it would be an experience. Long story short: the owner gave us a tasting session and we had a really great time talking to him and learning about the health benefits of his muscadine wine. It ended up being a really cool experience that neither of us had planned on and we talk about it often. The owner, Larry Cagle was extremely knowledge and friendly.
