Was on our way somewhere else and just happened upon Third Base and based on the sign alone, we had to give it a go. So glad that we did! The bartender was super friendly and told us the entire history of the building. You can tell this is a community bar and the regulars are treated like family. When we said it was our first time, they gave us free shots and let us sign the legendary ceiling (which isn't always the case at local bars where regulars are their focus). Sometimes the crowd can definitely be rough around the edges. Sometimes that roughness is part of the charm of this place, but not if we're talking about people behaving in a racist or homophobic manner - if that happened to you, I'm sorry. That sucks. Again, I've never seen it and only had great experiences in a very welcoming and judge-free environment, but I'm also a white girl living in the suburbs, so what the hell do I know? Inside has the ambiance of a country road house, which is exactly what this is. The staff is friendly and helpful without being intrusive. After 3 visits, this is my favorite restaurant/bar in the Berkeley Springs area. The food is well prepared and reasonably priced. Don't go looking for the fancy stuff here. The menu is simple, and that's how I like it. No drafts, all bottles, no problem if you like regular beers. The pool tables seem to get a lot of use. They have slot machines in a cordoned off room if that's your thing. I look forward to my next visit. The $19.99 steaks on Fridays are AWESOME!
